Took my wife for the first time to fish the AuSable. Stayed at Gates and we were very comfortable. Josh was able to rent waders and boots to my wife and she really enjoyed her first float. Our only complaint was that the dining room was booked solid for dinner. That is a good problem to have. I recommend making... More

While the accommodations are sparse, they are clean, comfortable, with TV and free wifi provided. Now, the real reason to stay - Gates Au Sable Lodge is a full service fly fishing operation. There is a top notch pro shop stocked with rods and reels, flies that are useful to the River, clothing, waders and boots, professional guides for in-stream... More

Rooms: Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Each room has a back porch that over looks the river. You can sit there, enjoy watch the canoeist go by and the fishermen on the small dock. Would be a very relaxing vacation and the rooms were very very reasonably priced. Fishing trip: We booked a 4 hour float... More

The rooms are average motel type rooms but the river views and sounds of the river right beyond every window more than makes up for the average rooms. Have been there dozens of times with family and friends. Even if you don't fly fish just sitting back and watching the river seems to drain stress away.

My four trip to Gates Lodge was, as usual, everything I was looking for and more. their super-friendly staff, starting at the top with Josh Greenberg, goes out of their way to make sure you have everything you need to make your trip enjoyable. This is our second time visiting this place. The people that work here are fantastic. We are new to fly fishing and the staff at Gates have been very helpful. There is so much to learn. We will be going back again soon to book a guided fishing trip!

First of all, I had never been fly fishing in my life. Regular fishing? Sure. Fly fishing ... ummm ... I watched, "A River Runs Through It," does that count? I booked the vacation for myself and my boyfriend a couple of months in advance - a MUST for this time of year - I am told. We booked the... More

Judy was wonderful at the Gates Lodge. She makes a wonderful breakfast. The rooms were so picturesque & homey. Only bad thing was the golf course we played, but the fishing lodge was great. Highly recommend.

Mark Hendricks is a fabulous guide who truly loves what he does. He took great care of us, always taking care of our 'lost flys' and tangled lines. He knows the river and has a beautiful boat. I look forward to the next trip I will enjoy with Mark. Lunch at the lodge after the trip was great! They have... More

For any fly fisher or nature lover this lodge is ideal. World class river right outside your door, great service and the chef/cooks are great. Would love to visit again. Knowledgeable fly shop/guides and wonderful assortment of rental equipment.
