Detailed Reviews
Once again we were in Grand Marais and we often stay at The Voyageur. It has immaculately clean rooms with welcoming and attentive owners. It has all the essentials you need for a comfortable visit...coffee maker, tv, toaster, etc. The cleanliness and attention to detail shows the hard work the owners consistently do to keep things up to par. We will be back in the spring! This time we stayed in a different room with a spectacular view and all the rooms have a good view. Highly recommend.

This is a nice, 10 room hotel. The facilities are modern and up to date. Our room was very clean and the staff was excellent. Our room had a microwave, mini refigerator with a small freezer area and a toaster (nice touch). The beds were very comfortable. Some helpful hints. The hotel is located at the end of a road and the road is somewhat rough (not the owners fault) so drive with a little caution. Hair dryers are not in the rooms but can be checked out from the office. Also, ice cubes are available in the office. Overall a nice hotel that I strongly recommend.

This humble place overlooking the Grand Marais harbor is a clean, comfortable place to stay. The front desk check-in and check-out is smooth and easy. If you're exploring the eastern part of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, this is a good bet for lodging. You won't be disappointed.

My husband and I have stayed here in years past and liked it enough to return again. But I can never go back because Room 8 smelled like a perfume bomb exploded and it burned my eyes and triggered my asthma, making me unable to sleep. The bedding and towels smelled of fragrance, the toiletries were FreshScent brand and highly perfumed. And worst of all is that the entire room smelled so strongly of powerful air freshener that opening the windows had no effect. Makes us wonder what the owners were trying to cover up with all that fragrance!

Thank you, Amethyst Travel, for sharing your experience and providing us with an opportunity to address your experience as you did not when you departed our property. Every story has 2 sides, this is ours. Housekeeping team member greets you with a “Good morning” as you head to your vehicle to depart our property. You, standing at the passenger side door, yell back at the team member about how “disgusted” you are and that the room smelled like perfume and air freshener. You got in the vehicle and left, leaving us no opportunity to digest your statement to address this situation. The Voyageurs Motel does NOT: • Use air fresheners in our rooms. • Claim to carry skin sensitive products. • Use laundry or cleaning products with harsh chemicals. The Voyageurs Motel does use: • Laundry detergent that is free of chloride bleach, formaldehyde, phthalates, and parabens. • Cleaning products use safer, biodegradable ingredients, and naturally effective cleaners and enzymes instead of harsh chemicals. • An ozone machine to remove strong odor from our rooms that guests leave behind. So, to answer your question, we are NOT covering up anything.

Simple and very clean works!! I was impressed with my stay at the Voyageurs Motel. The simply furnished room was comfy and very clean and those in charge were kind and helpful. Our view of West Bay and Lake Superior was an added bonus, as was the view of the morning sunrise. The expansive, well groomed yard was a lovely spot to sit outside and enjoy the end to our day. The location was just right for us as we were only a block or two off the beaten path away from crowds and traffic, yet only a short mile walk to the beach. I definitely will return when in Grand Marais. Keep up the great work!

We were on a last minute motorcycle trip with friends. This was the only available place to stay in Grand Marais. We were the lucky ones. We were greeted by the friendly owner. The view from our room was beautiful. Our room was exceptionally fresh and clean. Beds were very comfortable. Don't worry about not having A/C. We had a wonderful breeze through the window and no A/C was needed. Would highly recommend the Voyageur if you are needing a place to stay in the Grand Marais area.

We stopped to see if this hotel I had stayed at a few years ago was still open and to get a price on a room. Back then it looked nicer. Must have changed ownership. A sign in the window said be back in 20-30 minutes. I was standing 20 feet from the office door when the desk person pulled up in her car from what I'm guessing was a drive to the party store. When I was getting out of the car I actually noticed a car pulling in behind us. So I was literally there 30 seconds. I decided to take a picture of the overview of the lake. I was actually still opening my camera when the women yelled, "What are you doing? You are trespassing." I said waiting for you to return so I could get a price for a room. I read the note on the door you would be back soon. She replied, "Didnt you read the other note we are full." There were like 4 things posted on the window. I said I did not. She, repeated, "you are trespassing."
I said no need to give me a price on a room.
I have been to 49 of the 50 states. Several countries and never had a person working in a hotel be that rude or ignorant. I can only assume she was drunk.
I'm guessing the good reviews on here were from before this person owned the hotel or hired this person.
Either way. Pass on this place.

You are a liar! I would never talk like that to a GUEST. If that was said you were trespassing and I have that right to say so. No one has the right just to come on our property and do what they want and take pictures than get caught and pretend they were looking for a room when they weren't and this is what I'm thinking happened. And our place does look nice we do stuff to it all the time. I seriously doubt you have been to all those places because if you have been you would have known better to respect peoples property. talk about Ignorance!

This place is dated, but affords a clean, comfortable room with great views of the lake harbor. Lots of furniture crammed into the small room, bot overall not bad. Young woman at front desk very kind. Gave dinner recommendation. Short pleasant walk to the small downtown. Can't do much better than this in the small town of Grand Marais. Would stay here again!
