This is the only motel on the shore of Lake Superior in Grand Marais. Located on a private beach with many opportunities to hunt for agates. It is a tired motel in need of sprucing but when we go to Grand Marais we choose the North Shore Lodge. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. When our remote was missing...

My daughter and I recently stayed at the North Shore Lodge on a trip to see the Pictured Rocks. The staff is very friendly and accomodating, the room was clean and the location is beautiful. There is not a resturant on site so don't show up hungry unless you just want snacks. The drive to Pictured Rocks is about 55...

Our cabin which was Cabin #3 was run down, infested with flies because our door was busted, no air conditioning so the cabin was hotter than Hades, the beds were not comfy at all (hard as a rock), no curtains for privacy, all the rooms were dirty in some type of way (especially the table in the kitchen which had...

We rented a two bedroom cabin at the North Shore and had a wonderful time. I can't speak for the hotel side of the place. We read the poor reviews and were leery- but it was just what we were looking for to spend time in the Upper Peninsula. It was a cute, clean little cabin with knotty-pine walls and...

At first we were afraid to stay here because of all the bad reviews. We were pleasantly surprised when we drove up and found a nice looking place that looked nothing like what people had described in their reviews. We were expecting a run-down motel but what we found was a nice place in a great location. Our room was...

If you like funky this is your place! Yes, it's a bit rundown. And yes, the pool and restaurant have been closed. But this place is packed with character and the location right on the shore of Lake Superior is the best in town. The rooms are vintage 70s, the beds are nice, and our shower and TV worked. Nevermind...

Seriously, do not visit this area and stay in your room. You can walk over the bluff to the lake, or walk into town. Amazing location. Although it's obvious there were more features in the past (like a restaurant and a pool?), there were smooth clean sheets and a very laid back staff.

This place is very run-down... it needs to be torn down and rebuilt. The location is awesome though. I talked to a local. This place used to be really great. When the original owners died, their daughters ran the place for awhile. They moved to California and sold it to new owners. It seems the new owners are 'riding it...

This place could use a total makeover. It is at a great location. It has a spectacular view of Lake Superior and the bay. It could be a fantastic place to stay. Perhaps I got there at a bad time. Perhaps they were in the process of fixing the place up, or planning to do it in the off season....
