We spend every winter weekend at the Briarcliff because of the easy access to Butternut. We're big fans. The breakfast is wonderful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The owners and the fellow guests are all really nice and down to earth. Highly recommend.

My son and I stayed there last year while skiing in the area. Our room was an end unit, and it was freezing. We were offered extra blankets and a portable heater, but the fact of the matter was that we were freezing. The owners were accommodating, but I wouldn't stay in an end unit again

We take all feedback to heart, including the bad stuff, but I hope you can appreciate that it’s very difficult to respond to your review when five or six hundred people have stayed in that room without problem or complaint since the time of your visit to us a year ago. In the interests of science, I strolled down to...

I walked into the adorable office with it's trendy fridge and benched seating areas (3 of them). I stayed one night with my young boys. The room was small but sufficient and very clean. There is a small hill behind the building that could have been a great sledding hill if there had been more snow. The fire pit with...

The hipster ski-bum renovation of this 60s-era motel is largely successful. The breakfast (homemade scones, muffins, granola) is excellent, and the price for the location can't be beat. That said, a little more attention to the room amenities (not enough outlets for electrical, one-ply toilet paper, really?) would help.

Thanks for the nice review. We never really thought of ourselves as hipster ski-bums before, but I guess we'll take it? We're working on the outlet thing all the time: it's hard to keep up with the sheer number of gadgets that most people - including ourselves - travel with these days. Laptop each, phone each, iPad, iPod, that thing...

We were passing through the Berkshires and stayed for one night, but I wish we could have stayed a tad longer. This place is cool, fun and unique. Remember that this is a take on a motor lodge and that's what's awesome about it. The owners have thoughtfully updated the interior and surrounding grounds with modern details. All the while,...

As members of the Ford-V8 Antique Club we went to the Berkshires to find a Motel that we could stay for a weekend and enjoy the sites. We came upon the Briarcliff and we all fell in love with the place. The Host, Clare and Richard were so kind from the very moment we met them. We had a tour...

We usually prefer to thank reviewers privately, but a couple of things need to be said here, Florence. Firstly, thank you for bringing your wonderful old Fords to the motel. Seeing your beautifully-restored cars and trucks parked in front of our restored 60s motorlodge all weekend made me think about how ultimately rewarding it can be to bring things back...

Very clean and comfortable rooms, recently renovated with modern design and amenities. Owners are very nice and pointed us to a great spot in town for dinner. Was easy to explore the town of Great Barrington (5 min drive) and we also enjoyed hiking Monument Mountain (trail head right across the street).

The Briarcliff is the highlight of every trip to the Berkshires. The owners Richard and Clare are wonderful, and every recommendation they have ever given me for the area has been superb. Breakfast in the intimate but chic eating/common area is an absolute joy. I love the rooms too - clean, minimal, all I need in a hotel. I can't...

We enjoyed everything about this motel; location, cleanliness, comfort, decor, breakfast, and especially Clare and Richard. They have a wonderful way of making you feel very welcome, taking time to talk with you in the morning and truly wanting not only your stay at the Briarcliff to be great, but everything about your visit. We would definitely stay here again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
New English owners Clare & Richard Proctor have turned this classic 1960 motor lodge, with its spectacular view of Monument Mountain, into a cool 21st century b&b. We offer great value, clean comfortable rooms with a stylish edge, free wifi, a home-made breakfast of scones, muffins and granola with locally-roasted coffee, and a warm welcome. Chill out on the deck in summer, or by the stove in our guest lounge in winter. We are five minutes from Great Barrington and Stockbridge, and under 15 from Tanglewood. ... more   less
