Everyone was very welcoming making feel at home and comfortable. Even the other guests made us feel like friends. The Chef was very attentive and would go out of his way to please our palate. It was like staying with friends and the grounds are beautiful. I definitely recommend staying in the main building. There are additional rooms that were added to the property that are easy access motel style rooms.
I am sorry to hear that Castle Manor House will be closing Nov 1, 2021. My first visit and now possibly my last. A new owner will be taking over when it opens next. This was just the type of place I wanted after a long journey with rainy, windy weather. Cozy , Older style parking outside the door if not staying in Main House. There was a wedding event that weekend which must have kept noise to minimum, since no one outside due to rain. Terrific for me as I slept well. Outside view of marshland with Highway set much further back. Nice sound of Train running by in near distance added to the charm. My TV was not working and owner did his all to figure it out. It was not a big deal for me . I read my book and listen to rain. He was so apologetic and offer a personally cooked any breakfast request I might want . Was I happy to have a spinach, cheese and onion omelette. Yum! Host / owner Don Also included my friends buffet breakfast. Most delightful. Serve by Don himself. Our Parking was right outside the door of wing we stayed in very short walking distance from Main Inn. Only thing I missed was my early 6am morning coffee. Door to Main House not open until 8am. No refrigerator, micro , or coffee maker in rooms. Again, keeps cost down and Less problems for owners/ workers. I certainly can make due.…
Our microwedding in September 2021 was absolutely amazing. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect venue. Laura and her staff were incredible. We had 18 people total, including bride, groom, and officiant. Gazebo ceremony with reception on the deck. We brought hair and makeup artists into the bridal suite and had plenty of space for getting ready. Everything was beautiful, food was outstanding, and cost was very reasonable. Laura was easily reachable throughout the planning process and she was present the entire day of the wedding. She genuinely cared about our wedding, made sure everything went smoothly, and saved the day when it came to bustling the dress. Our guests enjoyed spending the night after the wedding. Rooms were clean, charming, and cozy. Would highly recommend this venue!…
I feel like a victim of bait and switch. Photos showed charming inn. We got the Bates Motel from Psycho. Moldy smell, cracked lampshades. Upholstery on the desk chair and club chair was stained and dirty. We had to move mattress off bed to access outlets and plug in lamps as all three in the room had been unplugged. Thank goodness it was cool enough to not need air conditioner as the window unit was NOISY! However running the air conditioning may have drowned out the abundance of traffic noise from the street. About 1 am we were jolted awake by crashing sound coming from bathroom... the shower curtain rod fell down. We put it back up as best we could only to have it fall down again. That was pretty much the end of any sleep that night. King size room for two and we were given two wash cloths, one hand towel and one bath towel. Draperies on large window would not close properly so there was a view into the room if anyone had ventured to the back of the motel. Tired, dirty, musty, moldy overpriced dump!!! In need of TOTAL renovation!!!…
WOW, dirty smelly room not as clean as it should be, everything we had with us had to be sent to the cleaners because after just one night it reeked of mold. Horrible place dirty smelly room not as clean as it should be, everything we had with us had to be sent to the cleaners because after just one night it reeked of mold. Horrible place Don't have 200 characters worth of complaint, just lousy place
Since we have a dog we usually stay at the Rockport Inn - which I recommend - but it was booked so we tried staying here at the motel. Upon entry the stink of mildew was BEYOND. I’ve stayed in my fair share of sketchy motels throughout the years but I can honestly say that this was sadly the worst. The blinds were beat up, there was a sign in the bathroom saying that getting hot water would take a while - which was definitely true - and there was no fridge. There was about an inch gap between the entry door and the floor so little friends had easy access to crawl in. The bedding WREAKED and there were black “things” in the sheets. I always bring my own pillows when I travel and I am angry to say that I had to throw them away. The smell would not leave. When we turned our keys in the woman barely made eye contact. Didn’t ask how our stay was. I guess she already knew.…
My husband and my grandson and I spent the night in Gloucester because we were going to do a whale watch the following day. This place was so neat. We did not stay in the manor house, but rather in a motel room along side of the house. The room served all our needs and though old, it was very clean, comfortable, quiet and had a certain charm about it. I like that I did not have to go up steps and could park right outside my door. There was no micro wave or fridge and very few outlets, but we didn't really miss them. It was very quiet and sleeping was not problem. The breakfasts varied from day to day. Some days the offered a full breakfast and on other days it was continental. The continental breakfast was amazing. We opted to eat on the wrap around porch. The morning was beautiful and the atmosphere was very calming. Offered up was juice, coffee, tea, cereal, fresh fruit...I mean like blueberries, strawberries, cut up pineapple....you know...fresh fruit. There was yogurt and real muffins....not the tiny ones, but big ones like you get in the fresh baked section at a bakery! The staff was very friendly and we even got a little welcoming bag with bottled water upon arrival. I absolutely loved it here and would have no problem staying here again.…
Castle manor inn Gloucester Hello Trip Advisors! This was our first real vacation out of the state since lockdown 2020. So, I eagerly looked forward to this trip. I am going to cut to the chase. After reading the reviews- I felt comfortable booking this hotel. My friend couldn’t do the stairs at the main house. So, she decided upon the motel looking portion as there were no stairs. I looked at the pictures and read reviews and figured it was ok for the price. WRONG. When we got to room 12, I was turned off by the cheap, dark carpet on the floor. But decided to ignore that and blamed myself for not looking closer at the pictures. But I had to go to the toilet and when I saw that someone had been sick in the toilet and their poop was all over the toilet I gagged. I called the front desk and they came to clean it up. Once I sat on the toilet I nearly slipped off because the seat was broken. Housekeeping was aware of the broken toilet and was hopeful that he owner would replace it the next day. I was told by the front desk that she would order it and someone would be there by 9 o’clock to fix it. Upon more careful inspection I realized that the entire room must have been forgotten by housekeeping. They must have changed the towels , replaced the toiletries, and bed linens and walked out. Cleanliness is not one of the motel’s attributes. The lock on the back door was broken and to secure it, they placed a wooden board. I turned on a lamp and was greeted with light from a torn, decayed side lamp. I turned on the other lamp to notice about a week’s worth of dust. The furniture has chips and is in disrepair. There are very few plugs in the room for charging electronics. There is no hand bar in the shower and the floor was slippery- this is a law suit waiting to happen. Room 11 was not much better but had a functioning toilet seat. For the check in date , reportedly, the hotel and motel were full . I understand that help is short and that housekeeping help is limited- but close down some rooms! Maybe the hotel portion of this place is nicer but the motel portion is desperately in need of cleaning and repair. If you know the toilet seat is broken- fix it before your next occupant comes . Tuesday arrives and by 11 NO toilet seat and the front desk did not seem to care. She did offer the 2 bathrooms in the main house and when my mouth dropped in disbelief- she offered to change my room . However , we had adjoining rooms with friends we hadn’t seen in 15 years and Gloucester was our meet up point. JUST FIX THE TOILET SEAT. It’s a Tuesday and the store is in town. She just didn’t get it. Was it going to be fixed today? She “hoped so.” When she saw I was “losing it” she managed to get another repair man in. This was our first venture out and about post Covid. Could this place have made it more aggravating?? THIS PLACE IS WORSE THAN YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE. It even looks like the Bates Motel from Psycho. Motel section here - DON’T do it.…
Two of us decided to run away for a quick girls night in the middle of the week. We booked the family suite and it worked out perfectly. The room we had was on the 3rd floor (no elevator) and had a private bedroom and a second semi-private bedroom. Ideal for people that want privacy while traveling together. We were greeted with a thoughtful bag with waters and brochures of the area. The greeter was very warm, friendly and helpful. Although the inn was not in the center of activity, it was a very short drive away from virtually everything. The inn was immaculate and although the décor was dated, it became part of the overall charm of the place. The continental breakfast consisted of amazing muffins, hard boiled eggs, coffees, teas, snack bars, yogurt, fruits...standard fare and more than adequate. There was plenty of free parking and the inn was quiet, clean and perfect for our overnight excursion…
Certain pictures, which juxtapose visitors sitting on the porch with the Gloucester waterfront, make it look like the hotel is at the water front; it is not. It is a 15-minute walk up a busy rural highway (two lane) to the hotel. The rooms in the former motor lodge are old, shabby, and loud. They might as well not have windows, given the amount of road noise that enters. No fridges in the rooms and when I commented on that fact to staff, I was not offered a fridge to rent. I had booked two rooms, in my name, over the phone, but no one had the common sense to give me two adjacent rooms, so noisy strangers with wailing children and four dogs in one room were our neighbors. If you look at the pictures of the rooms, do not believe them (even more than usual). Seriously over priced. On two days out of three, I chose to eat breakfast elsewhere.…
