Nice sites, very close to beautiful Wingearsheek Beach, Salem, Rockport and convenient to go to Boston by MBTA commuter rail. We had a problem with noisy neighbors and they've managed it with professionalism and understanding. I would recommand this campsite.
Stopped for one night reserved on our way to a week's vacation in Maine. The campground was very nice, close to a beach and with all that Gloucester has to offer, we cancelled our reservations in Maine and stayed here for a week. Very quiet and the owners and employees could not have been nicer! No, its' not a resort, its a campground! Ladies restrooms and shower were neat and clean.
We stayed here for a month and have stayed in the past for briefer stays. The campground is in an incredible location and very quiet. The owners are wonderful people. Everything worked well, there are a few quirks but nothing the owners won't help you figure out.
80.00 a night is very high for what we got or didn’t get. Older and not very well maintained. Bath is maybe from 50’s with a “pay as u go shower”& small, wet, & dark. Water bugs in shower. If not water bugs then some big bugs in the shower. Did not feel “safe” while in shower (door is on side with dumper & does not close or lock). Anyone can just walk in as people in office can not see bathroom doors. Office at top of hill (big rigs have to turn around or back down). Dump station is where the big rigs park. LOTS of sites (most for tents or smaller pull behinds) and wooded for sure. NO INTERNET & we got three (3) channels on the tv. Not well maintained. Close to a small area beach but can’t walk on the small 2 lane road with all the traffic. Just a lot to pay for what we got and then pay for shower water too. Wow.…
The campground may be beautiful if your RV is small enough to go up the hill to the campground. If you are over 30 feet you must “camp” at the entrance. We did not enjoy this area at all. No campfire rings, internet not available, maybe due to the distance from the office? Grass had not been mowed in what looked like months. Someone came after we parked and mowed around our camper, didn’t weed eat. Not sure they know what a weed eater is. There was no television service at all, which is fine unless it is raining. The campers in the actual camp area must not have sewer hook ups because everyone that checked out had to pump out right in our camping area. Not the greatest of smells. I guess for $80.00 per night I just expected a little more.
This is NOT a fancy resort or have nice amenities. It’s about LOCATION! What it does have is a place with friendly family staff and wonderful super helpful and inviting people who are enjoying the area just like you are. So many things to do, places to go, restaurants, day trips, whale watching , fishing, a peaceful walk along the harbor. We will be back for a 4th stay next time for a month…. Again if you want fancy with lots of amenities CHOOSE ANOTHER PLACE.
I took my kiddos for a last minute camping trip at the end of summer 2020. Even in the midst of the pandemic it was a wonderful get away. Maybe especially because of the pandemic! The family that runs the campground was endlessly helpful and fun to talk to. They gave us great "insiders" advice and addressed every need we had. Things were clean and organized and easy. Can't wait to go back!
Let me start off by saying if you're looking for a "resort style" campground look else where. This is a traditional rustic campground. The sites are close but still allow privacy. Most are wooded and all have plenty of shade. We did get a full hook up site despite me messing up and not booking one. I called ahead and they were nice enough to drive my husband around to figure out which site would work. This is not something a larger more commercial campground would do! The staff are friendly and helpful. It is within a mile of the beach and with the recent COVID restrictions we were still able go to the beach even though it was reserved for residents only because we were able to walk there. The campground over looks some of the waterways and has a lookout at the top over another. It has become our labor day tradition to spend it here..…
This is a rustic campground. If you love to canoe it’s a wonderful place to go. Plenty of tent sites up on the hill. We have a 40 Footer and were extremely disappointed in our accommodations. They have very few complete hookups. We can’t really fault them...it’s all they had. But they have a wonderful staff! Dumping is a challenge If you don’t get one of the premier sites. Proximity to Gloucester made it perfect. Woodmans in Essex is a National treasure.
Campsite is relatively small but good location. Easy to take a taxi to go into town. About 1mile from the beach. Owners are friendly. Road to Campsite small for a big RV so it is advisable to drive in during daylight hours.
