Stayed here about 30 years ago when I lived in NY. Came back for a New England road trip and decided to see if it was still there. It is and it is still a great place. It is basic, rooms are clean, location is great. There is a walkway overlooking the beach outside the rooms, it is like a shared balcony, but everyone is respectful of privacy. The owners are super nice. If you want the Hilton, forget it. If you want clean, family owned lodging, this is the place. Next trip up this way I will be back.
The title says it all. Cape Ann Motor Inn is exactly what it's supposed to be. A lovely nostalgic memory of how things used to be. We've been coming for at least 30 years. My Brother and I used to live on Cape Ann, moved away but our Mom still lived in Rockport. Before she moved into senior housing, we'd go to the 'Rockport end' of Long Beach. Such great memories. Then we began staying at Cape Ann Motor Inn. It's so laid back and wonderful (especially off season) and everyone's like family. Thank you guys for being so lovely during our recent stay. We left our Mom in her final resting place. A small family plot in Oak Hill. But her memory remains off Long Beach. As do ours.
The location, the beach, the view.....all amazing. The staff is pleasant and helpful and the room was clean and the bed comfortable. The full bathroom had good hot water for showers. I stayed 5 nights in a room with a kitchenette. I booked 9 months ago and specifically asked for one bed and a sofa for reading and relaxing as i travel alone with my dog. My room was 2 beds and no comfortable chair to sit and read. I read in bed :( There were no coffee filters for the coffeemaker, but the office did supply me with some. the baking pan for the oven was too large to fit :( There was nothing to scrub the dishes with like a sponge or scrubbie. I asked for something, but was only given another bottle of dish soap and a towel, so i had to use a facecloth :( The most troubling thing was how thin the walls between the rooms are.....I could literally hear the woman next door to me give her credit card # for a take out order. Thankfully, I am an honest woman…
We've been here before 8 years prior. Not much has changed. Yes, it is an older establishment, however, the bed was comfortable, we had plenty of hot water and good water pressure. It's nice having the balcony and right on the beach. Sunrise here is lovely. Strictly continental breakfast with great coffee and very tasty, fresh pastries. Due to staffing there was no maid service but you just put a checklist on your door and they deliver towels and toiletries you need. We didn't watch TV or use the internet while here. We sat outdoors and walked the beach. Interestingly, this appears to be a popular dog beach and there are a lot of people walking their dogs. Surprised at some of the negative reviews. It IS a little pricey for what you get but you have to understand that it's not a chain and you are right on the beach.…
This is an older place that is right on the water (Good!). That’s about all that one can be positive about. It is outdated and not clean. Carpet stains, worn woodwork and doors, water stained wood paneling, etc. If there is anyone in a room above you, you will know it—very noisy. Apparently there is no insulation between floors. It says your room has a balcony but it is really only a walkway that runs along the front of the building so people can get to their rooms. NOT a balcony. It is not private in any way. Mattresses are soft and uncomfortable. The rooms are very small and the bathrooms are tiny. The internet is extremely slow. Much too expensive for what you get. This place needs a lot of work.
The mattresses are probably 30 years old, bumps everywhere. I mean for $226 for a Sunday night stay…you could use the money for 2 nights and upgrade the mattress instead of letting the suckers suffer!
Wonderful experience and we do plan to return to the Cape Ann Motor Inn only this time getting a room with a kitchenette. All rooms are beachfront with a wonderful view of the ocean and Thatcher Island. Lots of families with little children.
Views from the rooms are breath taking, you cannot get a beachfront room for this price! Private beach is quaint and overlooks a couple lighthouses. The rooms could use some updating, no microwave is kind of a downside for longer stays. No room service, but management was very friendly and helpful. Overall, this is the best oceanfront room I’ve ever seen for this price!
I still can't believe how wonderfully we were treated during our two night stay at Cape Ann Motor Inn! Since I was the bride, I was allowed to check in early. The owner's wife had decorated my room - there were flowers and champagne! My make-up woman showed up as did several friends. One friend even appeared dressed like a butler to offer me a ride in her antique car to the Maritime Center - we were having our ceremony on the Schooner Ardelle. As we left, guests and beach patrons cheered and applauded. It was the perfect way to start my memorable day! Although we reside in Gloucester (right on the harbor actually) due to COVID we wanted to stay close by. At the Cape Ann Motor Inn, it's a whole other world. Starting with listening to the waves and looking at a beautiful beach! So romantic! We're big walkers/swimmers so it was the perfect spot (not as crowded as many other local beaches.) Our room was just perfect and we had everything we needed (like a fridge for all our champagne! We plan to celebrate each anniversary here! Thank you to all who were so friendly/helpful/and generous. My heart is full.…
