The St. Michaels Harbour Inn, Marina & Spa frequently receives compliments for its friendly staff and ideal location, beloved by guests for its easy access to shops and picturesque bay views. Cleanliness is a strong suit, with travelers consistently noting the spotless state of renovated rooms.
While the hotel offers appreciated amenities like pet-friendly options and harbor views, some guests feel that updates are needed, especially regarding the pool area and certain decors. Opinions on the atmosphere and rooms are mixed, with some finding the environment cozy and others calling for modernization. Despite these praises, the value proposition is often questioned, as guests mention high costs not matching the offered experience.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
This place is just simply lovely and simple and that's refreshing these days.
We've stayed here two times, the first time we had the Captains Suite, a second floor unit with separate bedroom and living room; this last time we stayed in a Waterfront Suite, a first floor unit which was very nicely updated and had a similar bedroom and a separate living room.
What makes this property so nice is that it is full of staffers who have a genuine interest in their work...many seem to multi task and everyone seems fully vested in maintaining a sparkling clean environment that is really simple and relaxed.
Nice touches include a gift shop with a variety of goods, free bicycles, free coffee and tea all day, a small but very nice pool and lounge chair area, a full bar and restaurant with many different seating options. The food here is old school and very tasty and affordably priced. The bar serves poolside as well.
Lots of fun watching the boaters come and go as this property has a multitude of boat slips. Nice views of the harbor and restaurants across the river.
It's a nice place for families and mature guests but it seems equally fun for bachelorette parties!
Hope they stay the way they are.

This is a wonderful place to stay, view the harbor, and walk around town! The staff is warm and helpful! The bathrooms are dated and need some refreshing. The mattress was a little too soft for us. Sanitizers and masks were provided in the rooms, which was especially appreciated this year of the pandemic!

This property is great for the location with an easy walk to the town, and excellent views of the harbor. We enjoyed the spacious deck, but, since we stayed off season (the first week in November) it was too cold to enjoy it to the fullest. The room was mediocre for the price, and I agree with prior reviewers that the rates are too high for off season and COVID restrictions (no exercise room, pool, limited restaurant service.) We have no doubt the room was cleaned per COVID guidelines, but could have been a little more spotless regarding dust on molding and vents. We brought our own breakfast (nice sized fridge but no microwave) and otherwise truly enjoyed our stay in the area.

Staff: Really friendly and helpful staff at check in, management is really lucky to have such customer oriented staff
Location: Walking distance to shops and restaurants and right on the water, terrific location. Keep in mind if you have a harbor view you will have harbor noises (ie boat motors, boats playing loud music, etc.)
Facilities: As others have mentioned, this property is in desperate need of a refresh. While clean, the rooms are absolutely dated. Peeling paint, old fixtures, light sockets that don't work, old furniture, musty smell, etc. For over $300/night, one expects more. If you are charging less than $150 maybe you can get away with the dated property but for that price, one expects furniture and fixtures from at least this century. They also need soundproofing as you can hear conversations from the hallway.
Covid: A few red flags here. There is no plexiglass or contactless check in. The front desk staff were wearing masks but sometimes guests walked up to the desk and were not wearing masks. Observed shuttle bus driver without mask and also the guests without masks. You really need to enforce and adhere to Covid guidance. There is no halfway on this. It's all or face the consequences. They also leave you two paper masks in the room on a table which is a nice thought but who knows how they were touched before. Would be better if they had a box at the front desk for guests without a mask or at the rates they are charging splurge and give a cloth mask themed to the place, like with a crab on it or something. And in a sealed bag, not just lying around!
Food: Did not dine at the restaurant b/c observed staff not wearing mask. The breakfast menu was pretty bleak. This is likely due to Covid and perhaps not the norm. Realize everyone is struggling to make it work in Covid environment and you can always go to a cafe in town for your meals.
Really the three stars is because this property is so dated and needs a total renovation. Has potential to be five stars.

I took the wife out for a spa weekend so we went to the St. Michael’s Harbor Inn, Marina & Spa. One problem. No spa. It exists and they’re accepting customers (literally right outside my door) but we couldn’t get in. Their space and capacity is so small And they’re only open a few hours a day anyway they couldn’t see us even for 15 minutes for our entire stay. I’ve been to dozens of spas and never turned away for full occupancy. They either need to put a disclaimer how tiny and limited their spa is or just take spa out of their name because it trielt isn’t earned.
But good for them on being packed. The hotel and town seems to be taking the pandemic pretty well because the streets, restaurants, and hotels have a good but of traffic. We were a little surprised. Living near the beaches of Delaware which have seen a certain drop off of visitors, St. Michael’s seems to be weathering the storm. The pool has a 15 person limit which doesn’t seem to be enforced. We stayed away from the pool the first day because there was regularly 20+ people in the pool and nobody was social distancing. The 2nd day we went to the pool early to beat the crowd. It was funny, they won’t enforce the COVID related capacity limit which gets violated for hours but somebody let their dog in the pool and somebody from the hotel was there in seconds citing the heath code. Talk about priorities. We only got about 30 minutes at the pool as it filled up fast and we wanted to distance ourselves.
That’s kinda it at the hotel. They have a restaurant but the staff don’t seems thrilled to be there. Our first time we waited to be seated for about 10 minutes. After not seeing anyone we wondered into an area of a closed down restaurant. Eventually we just tapped on the shoulder of a waitress at a table on her phone and she seated us immediately. The admiral suit is dated but spacey. The balcony isn’t all that secluded as the website led you to believe.
Definitely sub par as resorts go. I still don’t know what services the resort fee covered. You had to get towels at the lobby, there’s no waitresses poolside, no bellhop, no services outside of a shuttle. But the town was very nice. The 5 stars is for location and service shuttle (everywhere we wanted to go to was within 0.5 miles). The best thing going for this place is its location and sometimes that’s enough.

The hotel hosts such a magnificent view of the harbor and close access to the quaint, walkable main street of St. Michael's. But our room was situated overlooking the storage shed and propane tank and was laid out in a way that you couldn't view the TV from your bed. Also, the phone didn't work in the room and I had an emergency situation when my husband slipped and fell coming out of the shower and I was unable to call the front desk for help. When help did arrive in the form of the housekeeping manager, Sarah, she was so very very helpful and went out of her way to make sure my husband was fine and to clean up the blood and such. She was such an exemplary employee that we think she deserves a raise for her outstanding, above-and-beyond service in a very desperate time of need. Thanks Sarah, You made our stay!

The lobby and hallways are a bit dated, but the rooms were very nice, clean and the hotel staff was VERY nice! The pool area was not overcrowded so we didn't feel unsafe. Tony (I think that was her name) the bartender on Sunday was efficient, friendly and VERY attentive.
We did order some food there. Chicken salad I wouldn't get again but my husband thought it was ok. The Crab Pretzel and Pork Nachos were outstanding!
Right now in Saint Michael's with everything closing a bit early it would be worth your while to upgrade to a room with some outdoor space.
Great location too! Very easy to walk everywhere. Would definitely recommend.

Despite the wonderful view from the 3rd floor facing the water, an expensive but deliberate choice, the room was small, there was no comfortable chair and the TV was housed at a low level in a console making it necessary to prop one-self up on the bed to view while straining our necks. That said, the king size bed was very comfortable. Probably because of the late Oct date and the Covid restrictions there were few staff members visible and the rooms were only serviced between guest stays unless requested. The bar and bartenders were pleasant but the food - lunch and breakfast - was just 'acceptable'. Getting to the site was circuitous because of roadwork on the entrance street.

I'd first like to say staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the shuttle service into town was excellent, as well as the drivers who were also very friendly and helpful. However, the Inn is in much need of general maintenance and cleaning. We've been there two other times in the past and this time was not as nice as we found it in the past. The elevator carpet and lobby carpet was really dirty and needs to be replaced or at least cleaned. The bathroom in our room was also not very clean. The door to the bathroom was dirty around the doorknob and the floor was sticky. The bathtub was gross with black marks on the bottom and the tile surrounding the bathtub was dirty looking. We didn't even use it while we were there. The chairs in our room were spotted which made it very uncomfortable for us to sit on. I think the furniture should be replaced with something that can be easily wiped down especially at this time when we are all so conscious of germs. Another issue we had was although we were connected to their wifi, we could never get an internet connection. All in all it was still a nice little getaway because we spent most of the time out of our room. Don't think we'll be returning unless there are some upgrades made before our next trip to St. Michaels.

We took a mini baby moon amid the pandemic. St. Michaels was a perfect place to get by the water that wasn't too far from our home near DC. Harbour Inn abided by State and local COVID guidelines by requiring masks, providing ample hand sanitizer and enforcing social distancing. We felt safe, which is exactly what we needed because we haven't travelled during the pandemic.
Staff were friendly and accommodating and the lobby and room were clean. The rooms without a water view seem dated somewhat, but that's not an issue if you are more for clean economy than luxury.
The inn provides a shuttle service into town and bikes for free. We opted for the shuttle one morning and loved the driver and the no hassle ride onto Talbot street.
The pool is great. Right on the water and the lounge chairs are safely distanced.
We booked for a late check out, but ended up not needing it and the staff took that charge off of our stay.
Would recommend also for families.

They are free. She is correct.
Sadly, while a very nice hotel, their 'resort fee' is certainly quirky at best. We were there earlier this year in the off season, with no pool open, restaurant not full time, renovations in progress, no water taxi, plentiful parking, and we still had to pay the daily resort fee. More upfront info should be expected and would be appreciated.
What are options for pet friendly rooms? Is there a king bed option with balcony or walk out access?
Yes
Not sure about that one
Best to contact the very helpful staff. Centrally located. Great breakfast. Can transport and bicycles. Easy access to water.
