Can’t say enough good things about this place. Great location, great room, great service. We didn’t eat at Ruse, but heard great things, and the bar was very good. S’mores and breakfast were tasty (though certainly not a hearty breakfast, if that’s your thing) and the fire pit was really nice. This is absolutely where we would stay again next time we’re in the area.

We stayed here for two nights and very much enjoyed the ambience and accommodations. This new inn has much potential, as it’s freshly imagined and differently styled from traditional Chesapeake lodging. We booked a deluxe King, which was a fairly priced, minimalist modern room on the ground floor, with a small terrace overlooking the backyard garden and parking. The room featured very nice “rustic chic” bedding, a gas fireplace, minifridge, small closet including Frette bathrobes, and two well hidden clothing drawers (at floor level below a bench). High end “Parachute” brand towels and “Grown alchemist” botanical toiletries are dispensed from inside the oversized walk in shower. A complimentary small bag of Martins potato chips and two bottled waters are provided. No chairs or table in the room, however, just a bench. A home made Continental breakfast was offered in the lobby hallway each morning but there was no obvious place to eat it, so we ate out on our room terrace. Not sure how that works in inclement weather, I assume the restaurant dining room is used but that wasn’t clear to me as an option on this stay. It was also unclear to me whether there was daily bar and meal service, I think it may be limited. The inn’s gourmet destination restaurant Ruse is truly fantastic, and I wouldn’t stay here without booking at least one dinner there so be sure to reserve in advance. The inn and restaurant staff make up a welcoming, professional and enthusiastic team . A few suggestions: the property could use some more comfortable chairs such as couches and Adirondack chairs - there were only cafe tables and chairs out back. Although there are two small loveseats and chairs at the side entry, they are inadequate for more than two couples or families. The porch light was much too bright and lit up the room, disturbing sleep. The bedroom could use a mirror, facial tissues, and a better conceived clothing storage system (or even just an additional suitcase rack.) Only one tiny trashcan is provided ( in the bathroom) which too easily overflowed in one day, especially a problem without daily maid service. The bathroom could use some sort of soap dish, a place to put a razor and shave cream in shower, and more than two hooks , as there was no towel rack. As for the location, the inn is right on Talbot Street, close walking distance to the maritime museum, shops and restaurants. They are restoring and expanding two more buildings across the street, and planning a swimming pool, so keep your eye out on the Wildset as it grows. All in all, St.Michaels has a great new destination in the Wildset.

This hotel is everything. The rooms look straight out of a Jenni Kayne magazine, the coffee shop/ gift shop are meticulously curated, and the restaurant IS. DIVINE. We came here for a wedding and stayed the first night at a hotel that was atrocious. That night, we had a late dinner at Ruse (coming in at 930pm even when they closed at 10pm, and the staff was like cmon in!) and had one of the most amazing meals ever. After that, I knew we had to stay at the hotel. I called the next morning and even though they were so busy, the lovely woman who helped me over the phone was able to find us a room and got us early check in so we could get ready for the wedding. Once we checked in, the room was even better than expected. The beds are heavenly, the bathrooms full of grown alchemist products, and the finishing touches were top on itch. I believe the room we stayed at was the one that's on the hotel website for the standard king and I can say, the pictures do not do it justice.
So long story short, stay here. It's a dream and you won't even want to leave the property.

Not Yet Ready for Prime Time
The Wildset Hotel is conveniently located on Talbot Street in the heart of St. Michael’s. Spread across three buildings, guest rooms are modern and very well appointed with Parachute linens, very nice toiletries and comfortable beds.
The lobby and common areas are very nice and most staff members are quite attentive and welcoming. Complimentary coffee, muffins and yogurt are available in the morning and S’mores are available in the evening at the hotel’s beautiful fire pit behind the main building.
While the hotel is relatively new, several items require attention including noise levels between rooms (you can hear everything -including slamming doors), completely inadequate cable/satellite TV service (no local or national network channels), no tissues, chairs or clocks in guest rooms.
The hotel restaurant, Ruse, serves excellent food however the acoustics are terrible and loud noise overshadows the meal. Many public reviews are posted on this topic and it appears management has decided to ignore the problem.
Once (if) these issues are addressed, this will be one of the best hotels in the area.

New hotel with great design and friendly staff who are very helpful and accessible. Rooms have a clean symmetrical and eastern shore contemporary feel. We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed the hotel restaurant and outdoor fire pit. Great location and easy parking. Very clean hotel.
Management acknowledged the things that need to be worked out including at TV that turns on by itself each night in the middle of the night and room doors that slam when guests don’t ease them closed.
There are some other issues that can be resolved but we’re not addressed. Like having a real tissue box in the room and not a travel packet of tissues that you have to search for. And a soap dish in the bathroom. The TV has a guide for how to access channels and streaming services but it is confusing.
I was disappointed the gas in room fire place was not “ in season” as I was told, but suspect it just was not operating based on comments from other guests.
Rooms could be better insulated from sound. I could hear our neighbors at times.
The breakfast could be improved. I didn’t expect much but just coffee tea and a baked good that I would give mixed reviews depending on the day. And a yogurt that was dessert like. I would prefer a healthier yogurt choice and fresh fruit would be nice.
I would stay here again with the knowledge that these issues were addressed.

Response from Brian Ball, General Manager at The Wildset
Responded 4 Oct 2021
Hi Neil, thank you for this feedback. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time here at The Wildset. Your points made are valid and we hear your concerns. Covid and it's residual effects on shipping and availability have continued to delay our in room fireplace features. Our guests comfort is our top priority and we will continue to work diligently so your next visit here with us will be thoroughly enjoyable. We look forward to welcoming you back!

Great location, very clean and great vibe/setting in STM. Coffee and scones each morning and Nightly happy hour and s’mores by fire pit were nice touches. Renovation of hotel was well done, however the walls and ceilings were paper thin and provided really no sound/noise reduction at all. Stayed in many hotels and this has to rank as one of the worst for room to room noise. We stayed in main building and Every conversation, bathroom use and dropped item sounded like it was happening in our room. Perhaps it was lower floor room, but literally, you can hear everything from side to side and up/down and despite liking the whole feel/setting of the place, would make me avoid staying there again. Lastly, despite how welcoming reception was the night we arrived (Thur), the primary desk staff on Fri/Sat am were completely opposite, and in fact, borderline rude. Again, another strike that would make me look elsewhere next time. We had other plans each night for dinner but restaurant in house (Ruse) looked pretty cool with great outdoor setting and would eat there next time possibly.

My wife and I stayed here for an anniversary celebration based on the description on the website. We knew the hotel was in several buildings but were surprised that our room was across the street from the main property. Our next surprise is that the room was so small that it contained only a bed and two end tables - no chair, desk, or bureau. The room was very hot on a 75 degree day. The thermostat could not be controlled by guests. When we called the front desk, we were advised to open a window (but there was no crank on it)! We had to have the maintenance man (who was very nice and helpful) turn on the AC. It took him quite a while to do this, because the thermostat was behind a box and had to be programmed. By that evening the room was very cold and we did not sleep well. The maintenance man then had to return to turn the AC off. Because of the difficulty in switching between modes (which he said was a problem across the property), he brought us an oil filled heater and suggested we just use that to stay warm. It worked...but certainly was not something that we would have expected to have to use in a modern facility. In addition, the wifi signal was so weak that our devices did not even register the hotel's network as an option to which we could connect. The day we left we had ants crawling over our end tables. No idea where they came from as we did not bring in any unwrapped food. To cap it off, there was a "resort" charge of >$100 that no one at the front desk could explain, as we had been told that charge would be $15/day. No one could provide us with an itemized bill that explained the charge...and it seemed exorbitant for "resort" facilities that amounted to a fire pit and access to bicycles. We did like the location on Talbot Street and the fire pit was nice in the evening. All in all, however, we were very underwhelmed. For the money, we expected a higher end facility...and ended up without the basic amenities we'd find in a mid-price chain hotel.

The restaurant attached to the hotel is new in St.Michaels. This is a must when in St. Mikes m. The restaurant is the Ruse and the menu is spectacular. Service was spot on and Elliot attention to detail was excellent. I had the halibut and my wife the sea scallops and both were prepared to perfection. The starter was smoked trout dip served with house made potato chips. The lettuce wedge was uniquely prepared as well. Sarah the hostess was very attentive and Brian the manager stoped by to introduce himself as well. This will be a St. Mikes mainstay and if you are visiting you must check it out.

Those are my 3 take-aways from The Wildset. The staff is top notch, friendly, quick to serve, and looking for anywhere they can offer help instead of waiting to be asked. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed, but not stuffy. The gas fire pit is lit each evening and there's plenty of comfy adirondack seating around, as well as s'mores kits available if you'd like one. The continental breakfast is simple but again, high quality. As far as we could tell, all the rooms in the 4 buildings are available, but they seem to be doing something with a fifth building - not sure what. This work in no way inconvenienced us. My only "negative" is if you are sensitive to noise, the sound can carry from the second floor rooms down. We were in the building of the #500 rooms, on the first floor and we could very clearly hear our upstairs neighbor. There were several other rooms/suites in that building occupied and we did not hear anything from them, so perhaps we had one especially noisy neighbor. The rooms are not wall to wall carpet and that probably allows the sound to carry more, in addition to being older buildings. So maybe book a second floor room to avoid that problem.

We came for a wedding. The beds are comfy, the room was quiet, the shower was lovely, and the breakfast was nice. It's an interesting setup - the hotel has a main building with the store, check in desk and restaurant; then it has a couple of satellite buildings across the street. We stayed in the black building across the street. That was the only part of the stay that was a little confusing - we pulled into the parking lot at the main building but didn't realize our room would be across the street, and so I brought my luggage into the main building and then had to bring it back to the car once we found our room. But the stay was nice enough for that not to bother me.
They have a noise machine in the room which was a nice touch. The shower and toilet is also separate from the sink which made for ease of getting ready. They have lawn games and some fire pits that are cute an add ambiance. Loved this place! I only wish they had more locations!
