I can't say enough good things about this hotel. The location is perfect - on a slight rise above the Somes sound, with beautiful views of the water, sailboats, trees. Gorgeous lawn slopes down to boathouse and dock. Rocking chairs on porch, tea in the afternoons, croquet courts, bikes and rowboats to borrow. Beautiful old building and furnishings. Don't miss...

The View of the harbor from the rocking chairs on the back porch is exceptional!, The Inn is charming, the rooms are spacious for a historic Inn, the staff is friendly and helpful. We took advantage of the complimentary full breakfast, high tea and croquet on the professional courts. The Internet service is intermittent in the entire area, but restaurant...

It's reminded me of the hotel in 'Dirty Dancing' in a good way. Adirondack chairs just waiting for you next to the harbor and the croquet court. I was placed in the Rowse House since the main inn was not open for the season yet. The room itself was fine - a bit bare bones. No television, but internet. Good...

We have been going here for twenty years; now our children take their children. We absolutely adore the staff-they will do anything to help your stay be the best it can be. We feel greeted like old friends when we arrive. The cottage on the water is sublime-we can watch the seals go by! The Boat House is such a...

Mt Desert has many fine dining and lodging destinations. The Claremont is the standard for traditional setting accompanied by fine dining, quiet atmosphere and gorgeous location. Don't look for video arcades, noisy guests or or shoddy perfepormsnce since they are foreign for this locale.

We really enjoyed our stay. Authentic old New England feel ceto this hotel with wonderful, inclusive breakfast. Dining room looks out on harbor with lovely sunsets free of charge. We would have enjoyed the croquet equipped lawn, if temperatures would have been warmer. Southwest Harbor is more quaint and quiet than Bar Harbor, which is within easy driving distance. The...

On our first morning, with fog layered artfully over low hills across the sound, I could hear waves lapping the shore and the gentle “thonk” of croquet mallets, since several groups attired in white were quietly contemplating their shots on lush green courts. Welcome to the Claremont Hotel. Built in 1874, the hotel and its decor offer the comfort of...

We have stayed at the Claremont many times over the years, and the latest experience at the end of the season did not disappoint. It's in a beautiful, peaceful setting, and the hotel is a piece of history. Our room was quiet and comfortable with a great view of the sound. Do understand that it's like stepping into the past,...

My husband and I enjoyed three nights in cottage W3 at the Claremont, arriving October 13. It was exactly what we were looking for -- a cozy (though large) room with a fully-functioning kitchen and a woodburning stove to supplement the gas heater. The interior had been updated, including a very comfortable bed, nautical-themed white walls, new bathroom and kitchen...

Lovely decor, spacious room, stunning view of southwest harbor, three croquet fields. Minor complaint, towels weren't changed one of the days. For the class of the place, breakfast felt a bit stingy and quality could improve. Some vegan option would be appreciated.
