This Kyes motel is not a friendly place as the owner Mr. and Mrs. Dana Kyes live within the same building. Perhaps this is why they both are so sickly looking and seemingly miserable people. Burnouts.Both. Approaching their 70s and not much interested in the appearance or cleanliness of their motel. Pool filled with green pond water and taken over by frogs. It is obviou they are struggling with old age issues and financial hardship. For these reasons and several others I cannot nor would not recommend this dump to anyone.
The owner seems like a nice guy and the room was relatively clean, but this is an old, old place and the overall appearance is sketchy and rather depressing. Even at $78 for the night, it was way overpriced.
We checked in mid afternoon for one night. The room was extremely musty so we left all the windows while open we attended a nearby event. Sadly, open windows didn’t help much. Lots of spiders on the walls and ceiling made falling asleep challenging. The bed was comfortable enough and the hot water was plentiful BUT The Kyes motel is in need of a complete renovation.
Stayed for one night in Kye's Motel passing through Skowhegan. Very friendly reception, and a good price for the room. The room is basic, with a 70s to 80s vibe and the entire complex could do with renovation. Distance to the town centre is about 15 minutes walking. WiFi is a bit spotty. Overall a good enough deal for one night.
We were given a room next door to the office....asked to move because of potential noise...no problem. Our room was clean but very musty with hideous wall paper. Very few plugs with extension cords. Over priced for what you are getting
We were on our way to 'downeast Maine', and stopped in Skowhegan for 2 nites at Kyes Motel. It's the first motel you see as ypu drive in from Rte 2. The owner is friendly and the rooms are clean. The pool was refreshing after a nice walk downtown by the Kennebec River and a run the 2nd day. There is no mw or coffee in the rooms, and I think this motel has had its hayday in the past. There are several small cabins and a lower bank of rooms. A path on the grounds leads Down to the river- behind the lower motel block of rooms, a large tent and folding chairs were set up - so maybe there is a possibility of holding outdoor gatherings there? However, both mornings we stayed, I walked to office, hoping to stop in to check out breakfast and grab coffee. The office was locked, with no trace of any smells of breakfast or coffee. Maybe that service is no longer available? This is a no frills motel, adequate and clean, lots of hot water, but the water from faucets for drinking isn't very good. Just down the street is a great little market where you can grab a bite and coffee before setting out for the day.…
We stayed here one night on the way to a final destination. We called the owner and told him we would be late checking in, and it was no problem. We got there and the room was very nice and clean. The pillows actually were nice haha. Hot water, very nice room. Very cheap breakfast which was very good. Coffee was terrific. Definitely recommend if in the area. Fair priced room. If in the area, I would stay again
From the moment I walked in the motel office, I felt welcome at the Kyes Motel. Dana provided me with a quick orientation of the property and suggested things to do while I was visiting. My accommodations were homey, clean, and comfortable. I traveled for business and had long days, but at the end of the day, I felt like I was returning to a safe retreat. The wi-fi was spotty in the room I had at the end of the property across from the pool. Everything else worked great though (plumbing, tv, lighting, locks). Note that there is not a coffee pot in the room, but the Kyes Motel offers breakfast for a fee. I would definitely stay again.
Was heading to Bangor for a concert and found this motel as an option. The prices were very reasonable. Great location for the motel and stores, food and things to do close by. The check in was a breeze and was done in no time. Was just me and my daughter and we had a room with a queen bed and twin bed in it. Was a good room for us and plenty of room. The a/c was on a timer and came on as we needed it. Bathroom was a decent size and had tub and shower in it. Nice big closet and a fridge were included.
When doing a last minute booking at peak season one takes what they can find. Thanks to my fellow reviewers I was comfortable booking here and not surprised at what it was. Clean & comfortable enough. Room 18 does not exactly resemble the cover photo. It has had less remodeling. The carpet was fairly new and the mattress was fairly new. Everything else was 1970s with 20-30 years of absorbed odors, so there was that. Not awful or funky, just old & not fresh. No readily available outlets for recharging your tech, no shampoo or hair dryer (not a problem for us). On the big plus side there were 3 bath towels without having to ask. (My hair needs one to itself). It might not be my first choice but I would stay here again.
