If you like B&Bs, this one is hard to beat. This historic home offers the comfort and amenities that make you feel at home. The owners, Mike & Brenda, are exceptional hosts and ensured our stay was a memorable one. The morning gourmet breakfasts were the icing on the cake. We plan to return for another stay and would not...

Ms Martinez-Gray, I just tried calling your number and left a message. I'd very much like to speak with you. As I said the morning you left our Inn, I'm very sorry for the misfortunes in the trip you made. However, there are a good many misrepresentations in the review you wrote on the Captain AV Nickels Inn. The first...

Wonderful historic property on beautiful grounds. You can walk right down to the ocean to sit and relax or read. No detail overlooked. Comfortable sitting areas inside and outside. Fabulous gourmet breakfast. We hope to return someday.

We had a wonderful stay here but were looking forward to sitting at the bar followed by a great meal in the dining room. Unfortunately, both were closed this summer because of insufficient help, something we didn't find out until we arrived. However, don't let this deter you. Mike and Brenda are excellent hosts and the inn is like a...

It's been some time that our travels have warranted the effort of a review, but we have found a treasure worthy of the both our time and yours. Captain A. V. Nichols Inn located in Searsport, Maine is an outstanding spot for a memorable stay. Our hosts, Brenda and Mike, are the heart of this spectacular home. Brenda's love for...

The house is an amazing piece of history all on its own. It is clean and has plenty of amenities, including a fully furnished kitchen in the captains suite, wine and cheese in the afternoons, a bocce court, fire-pits, a fountain, gourmet breakfast, and you can see and smell the ocean. (The inn's property goes all the way to the...

Brenda and Mike are wonderful hosts. The Inn is beautiful and very nicely decorated. We stayed in one of the suites which was very roomy and had a beautiful balcony. The three course gourmet breakfast was incredible and held us over until dinner! It is an older Inn and to get to the suites you need to climb a set...

Our family and friends spent 3 days at the Inn recently. The house is restored, plenty of room , outside area where you can sit and relax. You can play bocce or horse shoes. There is a fountain on the backside and also a garden. The inside has ready rooms, an outdoor patio with gas fireplace and several books to...

The house is a beautiful restored historic sea captains home. We stayed in the Captains' Suite which had more amenities than we could use and a deck with a gorgeous view. The spiral staircase to the widow's walk was a great historical touch. I have dined in six continents and have never had a better or more elegant breakfast than...

What a great choice we made staying here. Beautiful house, generous and kind hosts and you'll never have a better breakfast in your life. Highly recommended. Sit on the porch or by the water and read a book, wine and cheese in the afternoon, restful bliss.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Captain A.V. Nickels Inn offers luxury accommodations in an historic setting. The Inn, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1874 by Captain Nickels as a gift to his bride. It is a breathtaking building sitting on 3 meandering acres directly on the island-studded Penobscot Bay about halfway between the beautiful towns of Camden and Bar Harbor. The Inn is often cited as one of the most photographed inns on the Maine coast and "creates a memory" for each guest who is treated to a level of luxury and attention to detail usually only seen in exclusive small hotels or inns in Europe. All rooms are furnished with European and American antiques, art, china and decorative touches creating the sophisticated air of a fine country home. Roaring fires on cool evenings, wicker on the lovely front porch, and lawn furniture by the water adds ambiance that invites guests to relax a while and enjoy the beautiful views from expansive windows or from the large decks overlooking the property. Two restaurants on site serve guests well by offering a large selection of locally sourced food (some grown right in our own gardens) expertly prepared by our chef. The bar is well stocked with a large selection of wines and our bartender is always ready to mix our signature cocktails. Common areas include two sitting rooms, a library, a lounge, a dining room, a breakfast conservatory, a ballroom, and a loggia with views to the Bay. Evening wine and cheese is served to all guests. After having slept in spacious suites beautifully furnished with antiques and sumptuous beds, overnight guests awake to the site of the sunrise across the bay and will enjoy a gourmet mimosa breakfast in the Inn's sunlit breakfast conservatory. The murmur of waves from the Bay and wonderful sea air enhance the restful atmosphere. All rooms have private baths, flat screen TVs, wireless internet capabilities, coffee/tea service, and luxurious bath amenities. Some have electric fire places. ... more   less
