The Birches resort and rental homes on the shore of Moosehead Lake in what has to be the finest location across from Mount Kineo was all we imagined for a week surrounded by beautiful natural surroundings in the great outdoors. The bar and restaurant offerings at the lodge were very good as were other amenities including a large fitness center,... More

My fourth trip to the Birches. It had been six years since my last visit and I wondered what effect the recession had on this idyllic place. Happily it was just as wonderful as my previous visits. The cabins are rustic and showing their age but are immaculate with new fresh clean bedding and towels. New this time was purchasing... More

We rented one of the 2 bedroom cabins on the lake for a 3 day getaway this August. It was perfect. Rustic but clean, picturesque location, friendly and helpful staff. It was dog friendly, which can sometimes mean less than clean. But, this place was great. It was just as we had hoped and expected. The water does smell and... More

Having read previous reviews going back several years, it is apparent that this resort has problems which have not been rectified. It isn't worth the effort of listing them all in detail as the owner appears to show no interest in fixing them. If you are happy to stay somewhere where the curtains don't cover the windows, the toilets don't... More

I am sorry this person did not have a nice stay. We advertise our original log cabins which were built in the 1930's as rustic but comfortable. Had this guest contacted our front desk and requested one of our more modern accomodations on the lake , perhaps they would have had a nicer time. Our public water supply has some... More

Hi, We did have a problem with a hot water heater. It was corrected in about 15 minutes. We have a full time maintainence staff to address problems such as this. The Iron in the water reacted with the heater. It posed no heath problem. We try to address guest requests immediately. John Willard More

We stayed at the Birches on the forth of July this Year. This is one of our favorite getaways spots in Maine. We got married there and our daughter got married there and I met my husband there When you sit on the porch and look over the lake all you want to do is smile and take it all... More

The Birches is a great place to visit. Loved the setting, the lake, the boating, the hiking, the evening campfires and the food! We really enjoyed the campfire at night and roasting weenies and marshmellows. Took a day hike on Mt. Kineo. Great boating on Moosehead Lake.

I had a horrible stay at this resort. I stayed over the 4th of July weekend. First, the floors are tilted terribly. It made traversing the first floor of the cabin quite difficult. The former reviewer who complained about this is correct. I have traveled the world and not experienced such horrible customer service. The water in our cabin stunk... More

I had replied a week or so ago? We have a professional licensed person maintain all of our spas. We use bromine. We have never had a guest complain about staining before. Our maintenance people were immediately on the guest issues. We corrected the issue in the cabin. Our water is tested by the state monthly. We clean and maintain... More

My wife and I are becoming "regulars" at the Birches and for good reason. First, Moosehead Lake is Maine's largest, is surrounded by spectacular mountains, has amazing fishing, hiking, exploring, moose....you name it, it has it! The Birches is a gem and located in Rockwood, away from the hustle-bustle of Greenville and the kind of a place you won't find... More
