A place to go without kids and to relax. The breakwater walk to light house was the highlight of the trip. During winter they shut down restaurant and some of amenities, that was the bad part of the trip.

Dear Kimmie1971_123, Thank you for being our guest and taking the time to share some feedback from your stay at The Samoset! The Breakwater Lightouse is such a beautiful asset to our community and I'm pleased that so many of our guests take advantage of it's access! I feel it's important to note for readers that our restaurants and amenities are open throughout the winter on weekends only. For visitors coming on a weekend, both restaurants, the Spa, Health Club and gift shop are all open with normal business hours. We do close these outlets at 3pm on Sundays (except the Health Club, which is open 365 days year) and move our front desk operations to the Health Club. I hope this clarifies any confusion, and more details are available anytime at 207-594-2511. With warm hospitality, Cornelius J. Russell

Dear Ms Kienzle, Although this topic has been discussed and reviewed via email not only with myself, but also multiple front desk associates and our Assistant Controller, I would be happy to also address your concerns here. I sincerely regret that the Time Share condominium accommodations did not meet your expectations. I understand that when our engineer determined that the heating unit needed further maintenance, you chose to depart The Samoset altogether rather than move to another condo unit or hotel room. To compensate for your inconvenience, your stay was complimentary and you were not charged. As I stated in my email, it is common hotel industry practice to authorize guests’ method of payment in anticipation for incidental charges (restaurant, spa, gift shop, etc.). The $50.00 ($25.00 per night) authorization for incidentals takes typically 3-5 business days after check-out to reflect correctly in the cardholders’ bank account. We provide the 3-5 day estimate assuming that the majority of our guests have banks within the United States. When our Assistant Controller offered to contact your bank in hopes of more prompt action on the $50.00 authorization, you advised that your bank is European which would lead to difficult communication. In the future, we will advise guests with European banks that it may take up to 3 weeks processing. It is unfortunately out of our control when it comes to the duration of each banks’ authorization processing. It is unfortunate that you felt it necessary to share your concerns in this forum when we provided prompt and accurate email responses to your concerns and you received the $50.00 back as promised, in addition to your complimentary stay. I hope I have covered all areas of concern, but you have my email address and direct phone number should there be any further questions. With warm hospitality, Cornelius J. Russell

When I arrived at Samoset for the first time in 1991, I knew the moment when I walked in the front door that "this was it"! I had stayed at wonderful hotels in the USA and Europe and was looking for a place to return to every year by purchasing a timeshare week. I have

Portland International Airport. Temps right now are 30s/40s daytime, high teens to high 20s nighttime. 3 to 4 inches of snow on the ground. All roads are clear. Enjoy.

Yes. We go there during winter and enjoy the contrast of walking out on the balcony in very cold Maine Winters and into the 104 degree bubbling jacuzzi. There is a canvas curtain that ties shut and blocks the outside world from looking in at you, although on a blustery day, it does make some flapping noise, but it has so far remained tied shut.) The hotel provides robes, but we suggest you might put down a towel on the balcony deck if it gets really cold to avoid the splashed water freezing and getting slippery. Have a fun time! Jim

The timeshare buildings do not have elevators. The steps are shallow and not too very steep. The 'second' floors are at the entry level without steps so you can request that level for your room if stairs are an issue. Call the front desk or timeshare services for the request. In our experience the staff accomodates special requests whenever possible.
