Had a wonderful stay! Management great! Ogunquit a great place stay. Met some wonderful people. The town is full of life! Room was clean and quiet. Extended our stay from 1 to 3. Would definitely recommend and will stay again next visit from Ohio
The new manager called us today to let us know she would not honor the reservation we’d made back in February for 6/30/22 - 7/2/22…we could re-book the same dates but at a higher price. I explained that we are on a budget, were long-time, loyal customers & had booked way ahead because it’s our 10th wedding anniversary. I told her I think she should honor the price we’d paid when we’d made the reservation, but she would not do so. She said that the previous owner knew they might sell but continued to accept reservations anyway. (So it’s apparently the previous owner’s fault?) I checked my email after getting off the phone and see that they are making everyone re-book their reservations (at their now higher prices). This new owner clearly demonstrates she’s mastered the concept of “greed” and “deflecting blame,” but the concept of decent “customer service” is apparently foreign to her. We don’t do business with places like this so we will be requesting a full refund and not staying at the Betty Doon again.…
Coastal hotels in Maine can be quite pricey but the Betty Doon Hotel is affordable and has the perfect location in the middle of town. Located amid shopping, restaurants and the beach all within walking distance. The front desk staff was very pleasant, but take note- if you're arriving late, call and let them know. The front desk is not staffed 24 hrs. a day and will make arrangements on where to get your room key. There is parking on property with assigned parking spots, some can be a bit tight if you have a large vehicle. The outside of the hotel is deceptive of how large it really is. We had a pleasant stay for the 1 night we were there. The room was quiet, had a mini fridge, tastefully decorated and most importantly-clean. Home made muffins by the family were served in the lobby in the morning. Our room was on the 3rd floor but the stairs, (no elevator), are easy enough to get luggage up with little effort. The room had to have been the smallest I've ever been in, there was enough room to walk around the bed one at a time and the bed took up most of the room. There was a closet and chest of drawers with a small tv above it. The view from our window was of the cinderblock wall of the adjacent building 5 feet away. With that said...I'm not complaining since the main reason to get a room is to sleep, we don't spent much time in it. So the size and view were not an issue for us. I would stay here again when visiting the area.…
just spent 3 nights at the Betty Door. I was little concerned that there haven't been any reviews since last year but If you need a basic, clean room, with a perfect central location to everything in Ogunquit, the Betty Doon will be just fine for you. This is a real old building. Yes, you hear people outside, the A/C was quite loud and the bathroom was tiny, but we still enjoyed our stay. Rick's muffins and Coffee are the perfect way to start your day. Not having to move the car was a big plus. If you are looking for a big, spacious place, you should probably skip the Betty, but if you need a basic room for a reasonable price, this is your spot.
This is the kind of hotel I prefer. Local, vernacular architecture, a place that captures the location. An almost one hundred year old building, rustic and charming camp like ambience. Right in the town and a five minute walk to the beaches and walks on the ocean. I loved this place. Not a cookie cutter boring corporate hotel like a hospital room - instead a real and cozy place that embodies Maine. The coffee and homemade muffins in the mornings an added bonus - the inn keeper always friendly and helpful.
The place is very outdated. The room felt very dirty and smelled funky. Bring your own sheets if you're planning on staying there. The place doesn't offer any amenities. The location and price were the biggest positives. It is walking distance to the beach and most of the food places in Ogunquit.
I stayed here twice this month, in 2 separate rooms, both were nice. Staff were very accommodating and moved us to a bigger room when asked during our 2nd stay, from a small double and twin corner room, to a larger room with 2 doubles and 2 twin. All of the staff were pleasant. AC works well. Breakfast in the mornings of muffins and coffee, didn’t have either. Small table/chairs outside each room. I will continue to stay here!
Definitely an older property but clean and well kept! Everyone was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was just muffins and coffee but the place is in the center of it all- food, bars, shops and beach all five minutes in any direction!
We were there early (Easter weekend) we had room 23 which was roomy and bright (and a bit cold) regardless, we loved the location, around the corner for a coffee at the little grocery store or the bakery (2 min walk) 5 min walk to the beach. Perfect location with 3 young kids. No driving necessary. BBQ worked fine although a bit basic, but it cooked. Full fridge was a bonus. Too bad the bathroom sink isn't larger, it would make washing cups and plates alot easier! the place is vintage aka: old, but clean. We loved the easy access to outdoors and the decks although couldn't use them as it rained all weekend. We didn't care as we're beach people and actually love the rain and fog. Walk on the Marginal Way taught kids to rock walk and squeal with delight as waves crashed over the rocks, spraying us all. Coffee and little muffins first couple of days and then.....none. So assuming it was cause we were the only ones in the place and can't drink a whole cistern of coffee! something more that weak coffee and mini muffins would have been great. Yogurt? bread or bagels for the toaster? PB or cream cheese? One last thing, and I suspect they'll fix it, but when hotel is not full, the water never got hot. It took 10 minutes to run the shower before it got lukewarm, a real waste of water, but hard to shower in cold water when the room was already chilly. There IS one small heater that keeps the main room warmish. Secondary room with twin beds has no heat. There's an AC unit in main room…
Great place, quaint, felt like I was in grandmothers attic. Front desk showed us other rooms for future visits as our room was on 3rd floor, lots of stairs. Apt. 23 perfect for 6 ppl and a kitchen, great location right in beautiful town of Ogunquit. Definitely return to this cute little place. Lobby very welcoming and decorated for Halloween.
