I've been camping for several years and this has been my favorite campground so far. All of my experiences have been at State Parks in New York. This was my first time camping in a private campground. My family spent 8 nights tent camping in...More

These are nicely spaced sites and each one has trees and a pleasing setting. Many tent sites have platforms. RV's over 20 feet are not allowed. Not fancy with the amenities (wi-fi, for example, is only in one building) but the privacy makes it worth...More

This was our second camping experience on Mount Desert island. Two years ago we had a lovely waterfront site at the Somes Sound campground and enjoyed the serenity and the views. This time we wanted to try another waterfront site and were very pleased with...More

We have stayed here the last 3 years. When first went up to Acadia we stayed at a couple different campgrounds the first 2 years. While driving around our 2nd year we went by Mt. Desert campground and stopped in, we are so glad we...More

Since 1958, Mount Desert Campground has been providing clean and quiet grounds for campers to enjoy! While you won't find frills and gimmicks here, you will find beautiful wooded sites located along the salt water ...More shore of Somes Sound. We take great pride in ensuring our camper's stay is a pleasant one, which is why we also provide the most up-to-date facilities. Yes, we intend to keep the Gathering Place open for coffee, etc. until we close in October. Thanks!

I have a question for repeat customers of MDC My children and I will be there this coming July. We are avid campers and take a trip nearly every summer but have only been to Mount Desert Island once before, 2006. Our trip then we used a sub-standard campground. My question is - I have room to bring either a screen room to set over the pic nic table or an ez-up awning. One will help with bugs, the other with rain. Which would be more useful at Mount Desert Campground? I know the bugs can be bad in parts of the island, not at all in other areas. I appreciate your help! Any other suggestions for this campground would be welcome. I booked what site was available for us -A17 - but it was a shot in the dark as I had never been. I'm assuming you have to reserve a year in advance for the waterfront sites. Thanks
