We spent 3 nights touring acadia in Mount desert campground. Hands down, the best camping experience we had. Conviniently located, minutes from loop drive, great views to Lake, wifi and good coffee in gathering place, wooden platform for easy tent setup, attentive and firendly owners....More
We spent three nights at the Mt. Desert Campground, a site on the "A" loop. We couldn't have asked for a more picturesque water view campsite. The place was immaculate but our neighbors were a bit closer than we expected. Overall, the campground was quiet,...More
We stayed here two years ago on the recommendation of a friend, and went back this past summer. My kids and I enjoy this campground. It is well laid out, kept clean, the other campers are considerate, the area is beyond beautiful and the amenities...More
This was our family’s 10th summer camping at MDC. I hesitated to write a review over the years because this place is already so popular. The platforms, clean cabin bathrooms, water views, floating dock for crab fishing and kayak rental, and games, treats and WiFi...More

Since 1958, Mount Desert Campground has been providing clean and quiet grounds for campers to enjoy! While you won't find frills and gimmicks here, you will find beautiful wooded sites located along the salt water …Moreshore of Somes Sound. We take great pride in ensuring our camper's stay is a pleasant one, which is why we also provide the most up-to-date facilities. In general, any site that is not purple or gold on their website campground map is far enough away from the water and steep hills. When we were there we noticed a few families in sites A36, A38 and A28 and A40 are in between roads, fairly level and close to the Gathering place. As a father of 4 (now ages 14-25) I'd look for sites near bathhouses :-) - I HIGHLY Recommend this campground, I think it's the best option on Mt. Desert Island. I bet if you gave them a call and explained what you needed they'd help. You won't be sorry. Lots of families with younger kids.

Hello! We went in August of last year and had no real issues with bugs. We brought some tiki torches and those helped keep the mosquitoes at bay, but they weren't really terrible to begin with. I would say the screen room would likely be better. We brought an awning last year and it was really only used for our kitchen stuff. Not sure if we'll bring it again this year but a screen room would be nice...saw quite a few folks with those. As for the waterfront sites, you don't necessarily have to book a year in advance, although if you know you want one - book it in January when online reservations open. They go quickly.
