it was everything you would want in a B&B--clean, comfortable rooms. ours had a kitchen and small dining table. a great room to share breakfast with other guests and chat with our hosts or read and have tea or coffee in the afternoon. also a great garden with tables outside. They cart your bags to and from the ferry for...

Shining Sails is the perfect get-away! I have been coming here for years, and it now feels like home because of the welcoming nature of John and Winnie. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Most rooms have patios with lovely views of the garden and or ocean. Each morning we are greeted by John and Winnie along with home made...

We are staying in a two-bedroom apartment belonging to Shining Sails called "China Cap" and love it. It's a lovely place to be and we would recommend it to others. The owners have been easy to deal with, and the unit is impeccable. We enjoy the small balcony and view of the small harbor. Would come here again!

Motel is OK but not very welcoming. In fact the entire island doesn't seem to care about tourism. You pay a premium on a boat to get there, there is only one nice hike and not much else. The food available is poor and scant.

We stayed in room 1 with our 8 year old twins. It had a tiny pullout sofa for them in a separate room (the "kitchen" area). We had a small patio with two chairs and a table and a lovely view of the sea beyond the lovely garden. I think we must have had different innmasters than the rest of...

We went for a family members birthday celebration booking four rooms, two of which had kitchenettes although we did not take advantage of cooking, but could have. We ate mostly at the Island Inn although we made sandwiches for lunch. The breakfast had daily homemade muffins, cereal, coffee, juice which was a good start to the day. The owners were...

We had a little family reunion and rented four different rooms (two of them were small apartments). All of the rooms were very comfortable and nicely appointed. The kitchens in the apartments were well-equipped, although we didn't do any serious cooking during our stay. The owners (Winnie and John) were so friendly and we really enjoyed our breakfast-time conversations with...

THis year she talked me into coming to Maine for the fall colors and we took an overnight trip to Monhegan, The island was starting to close down for the season but luckily Shining Sails was still taking guests in. What a pleasant place. The place was clean, great value,...

There are many accommodations on Monhegan Island; Inns, cottages, etc. For an authentic Island experience make a reservation with Shining Sails B &B or rent a cottage through them. Hosts, John and Winnie have a long history on the Island and are a delightful source of information, advice, remembrances and knowledge about all things Monhegan Island. With John and Winnie,...

“Upper rooms have magnificent views of the peaceful harbor. Leave your windows open all day while you're gone (unless it's raining) so you can return in the evenings to sleep in pure island air. Bring food with you.”
