The Island Inn is an unusual vacation experience. Knowing what to expect will help you determine if it's the right place for your trip and prepare you to enjoy it to the fullest. Monhegan is a half-hour boat ride from the coast of Maine. It has no natural water, fuel, or food. Everything but the fish and the lobster comes...

What an outstanding experience! We stayed on the second floor ocean view, and man what a view. The rustic yet clean inn was outstanding, gorgeous and relaxing. We arrived on the late boat from port Clyde, me. Checked in and went up to see the room. It was clean and tidy. We made reservations for dinner at the inn and...

We spent one night at the Island Inn on Monhegan, and it was a delight. Our room was on the third floor overlooking the harbor. It was rather rustic (rough-hewn, painted wood floor) and old-fashioned, but all the modern comforts were in place. It made the perfect base for our exploration of the island. It was so quiet and peaceful....

We took an early boat (7am) over to Monhegan Island where we had breakfast at the Island Inn. You order your eggs or regular/blueberry pancakes at the table but serve yourself at the buffet table. Try the lobster scrambled eggs, or even the French Toast stuffed with blueberries. Of course, as is usual, there are many other options for all...

We arrived by boat and moored in front of the hotel. Lots of current so sailors need to be careful in picking a location. The Inn was a delight. Big verandah overlooking the harbour with lots of rocking chairs to watch a spectacular sunset and enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail. Our dinner was very enjoyable. We all selected the halibut which...

If you've heard about Monhegan Island, and are considering a trip there, you must first congratulate yourself on discovering one of the little gems in the the world. It's special, a little weird, and definitely worth a visit. If you are a first-time visitor, as we were in August 2013, I don't think there's much point to staying elsewhere. The...

I am so happy that I made Monhegan Island part of my itinerary. The Island Inn was so adorable and peaceful. I reserved a Queen Ocean View room with a shared bath. The room was spacious and it was very convenient having a private sink in the room. I stayed at The Island Inn on my birthday. And although I...

The only place to stay on monhegan island. Many nice walks to,take and lots,or,art galleries to visit, although a lot seemed amateurish. Good good, poor service. Terrific e views. Stayed in a separate cottage that was ok. All in all worth a visit.

To sit on the front porch of the Island Inn, sipping a cocktail, rocking in the rocking chairs and taking in the harbor and sunset is a fairly sublime experience. The Inn is a gracious old building dating back to the early 1900's. The room (many of them) overlook the harbor as does the dining room. Check in staff was...

We stayed at this charming inn a few years ago and really enjoyed our visit. The dinner there was quite tasty too. The rooms reminded me of my childhood and visits to old shore towns, before they were overtouristed. Too many tacky restaurants and souvenir shops ruined many places, but not Monhegan. But too many non-environmental tourists ruined the building...
