Detailed Reviews

This wonderful inn was such a pleasant surprise. It is located on a beautiful piece of property right off the road in Kennebunk, which is just down the road from Kennebunkport…two wonderful must-see Maine towns. I best describe the Waldo Emerson Inn as charming, welcoming, comfortable, and clean. Our room (“Bourne”) had a queen bed and was beautifully decorated…but not stuffed with antiques like is sometimes found in similar types of inns. Though the bathroom was a bit tight, it was modern and extremely clean. Our room also had a separate window AC unit which kept it nice in cool during an unusually warm evening. From our names written on our room door (in chalk) to the wonderful conversations with the staff, we really appreciated the personal touch provided to the guests. Finally, our delicious (and filling) breakfast (parfait, French toast, bacon, coffee and orange juice) was one of the high points of our short visit.
The only unfortunate part of our visit is that we only stayed one night as we had to fly home the following day. We highly recommend the Waldo Emerson Inn and certainly plan to return next time we’re in the area. we were

Hana, Melissa and staff provided a relaxing getaway for my wife, her sister and husband, and me. Highlights included impeccable cleanliness everywhere, thoughtful appointments and personalized service. Note - each of us is known for high standards and not being easily pleased.
We had more than a few special requests which were seamlessly accommodated on the spot. Hana is clearly an experienced professional and discerning innkeeper who sets high standards - delivered with a welcoming graciousness.
Special touches include unique morning breakfasts that are tasty and relatively healthy (they work hard to make it special), a different afternoon/evening goody baked in-house each day, S'mores supplies for the evening firepit option, high quality sheets, instant answers to any recommendation and more. All at a very fair value.
Thank you Hana and Team Waldo Emerson Inn!

This traditional New England house is located close to the many restaurants and amenities in Kennebunkport. We received a warm welcome from Hana. The bedrooms are very comfortable and there is ample seating space in the reception areas to relax. Refreshments and snacks were available at all times and the breakfast was very tasty. We will definitely return if we’re in the area again.

My wife and I were very excited to stay at the Inn. The reviews are exceptional. The pictures inviting. Unfortunately, we had a different experience from other reviewers.
While we understand it's a very old home, the floor in our room was so uneven it felt like trying to walk on a ship at sea. I imagine this must be a trip and fall hazard. Please be aware of this if you have any mobility issues.
The bedding was definitely not the quality expected. It was very thin and not soft. The pillows, however, were very good.
The bathroom is very small, which I understand is not the Inn keeper's fault, and made it difficult to get ready in the morning. Thankfully, my wife and I are small people. I cant imagine anyone else being able to fit in the shower stall, or on the commode. There isn't a spot for hairdryers, etc., or cosmetics. Again, not the Inn's fault, but something to keep in mind. On a positive note, the water pressure was perfect and the water nice and hot.
The very best part of staying at a B&B, in our opinion, is having a beautiful, delicious breakfast made for you each day. In this case, breakfast was two courses. The second course was ALWAYS exceptional, but according to other guests who stayed longer, the first course of oats was the same every day. One day is fine, but beyond that, no thank you.
Surprisingly, the Inn's coffee was very weak. We've stayed at many B&Bs and always found the coffee to be noteworthy. However, in this case, the Keurig coffee provided on the second floor was more palatable.
All of these issues wouldn't have earned a poor review if the cost of the room was commensurate with the experience. However, for $300 to $400 a night, it did not meet our expectations.

I am so sorry to hear that you did not have the memorable experience you expected. I’m unable to find a reservation under your name or a guest from Washington DC who stayed with us in August, prefers you’ve left this review under the wrong property.

Waldo Emerson In was the first stop on our Maine Road trip and what a perfect place to start vacation. The Inn itself is incredibly charming with lots of neat history and stories in its walls. The room we stayed in is large and well decorated, antique without feeling worn or run down. There was Coffee and tea as well as snacks and fresh baked delicious cookies available to guests at all times. The innkeeper, Hannah was delightful. She had some great recommendations for us, let us use some bikes to explore around town and gave us beach passes to avoid the steep parking fees at the beach. The breakfast was a two course culinary experience and we understood why when we found out she’s a trained chef. We felt very safe overall as well and they did a great job of following guidelines and ensuring guest safety from mask wearing to hand sanitizer available to separating guests during breakfast. We highly recommend this Inn and look forward to returning!

I reserved a FULLY REFUNDABLE room for summer 2024 through hotels.com. I cancelled less than one day later, (change of plans), still 9 months before the reservation date. The hotel refunded all but $50 of my payment and refused to refund the rest, despite their advertisement on hotels.com. It took several phone calls and finally a dispute through my credit card to get the final refund, which is still pending. So BEWARE. This inn seems to have deceptive (and illegal) advertising. I will never stay there even if my plans change.

Thank you for your feedback although to our knowledge we received only one phone call from Hotels.com and immediately approved the refund, realizing our error. I apologize for the inconvenience it may have caused. It is never our intent to mislead our guests in any way.

My husband and I stopped for a couple nights at the Waldo Emerson Inn towards the end of a two week trek down the coast of Maine. The Inn was well kept, nicely decorated and the Innkeeper provided a delicious breakfast, even having Gluten Free offerings for me. She provided wonderful suggestions for excursions as well as restaurant suggestions for our stay in Kennebunk and for the duration of our trip. We would definitely stay here again if in the area.

This is our second visit in this charming and historic inn. It is evident that innkeeper Hana continues to improve this 270 year old property and always surprises with an innovative and delicious breakfast! The beds are wonderfully comfortable and appointed with luxury linens. Hana and the staff are super helpful with restaurant recommendations and suggestions for exploring the area. Small details like fresh flowers in the room and complimentary snacks and beverages are a unique touch. The gardens are lovely with numerous seating areas to enjoy the outdoors as well as a cozy fire pit. Always a memorable stay.

My husband and I were looking for a long weekend getaway to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and this place was great! They had a chilled bottle of wine waiting in our room, they provided local restaurant suggestions so we could make reservations ahead of time, and (my favorite part), when we had to leave early in the morning on the last day (this missing their delicious breakfast food), they made us a to-go breakfast bag: a yogurt parfait, clementines, and some biscotti. Great service!

My husband, daughter and I stayed here for 5 memorable days. Hana was an amazing host, setting up our itinerary each day as we experienced so much of what Maine (and Portsmouth N.H.) had to offer. The breakfast every morning was terrific, a different, creative dish each morning. The room we stayed in was very comfortable and immaculate. The afternoon cookies were spectacular, especially the chocolate chip cookies with the big chunk of chocolate in the middle. I have to try to make those at home, they were so yummy. The location to the town of Kennebunkport was perfect, and the distance to other must see cities like Portland and York offered us easy access. Hana, thank you for your hospitality and we hope to see you again soon.
