The Econo Lodge was available and reasonably priced for our weekend away. It was basic and clean. It had all we needed including a refrigerator. The Freeport brewery is next door and a lovely breakfast cafe, the Sunrise Cafe, is down the road.

I listen to the radio and there were storm warnings and since I'm camping I felt it may be safer to find a hotel. This place completely ripped me off $289 for one night ? one person? The hotel smells like mildew and the beds are almost falling apart Shower and carpets are filthy. they only had decaf coffee. Sheets so thin I almost pot my foot thru. I'm sorry to say after all my travels and staying in many hotels my experience is when a certain nationality are hotel owners the place stink.

The Econo Lodge in Freeport used to be our “go to” for a quick, inexpensive weekend in Maine. It had been a few years since our last stay and we decided to head up for Memorial Day weekend. The hotel was completely different than previous visits. It’s been taken over by people who live there and give dirty looks to people there on vacation. They hang out in the parking lot making noise late at night and it doesn’t feel safe to walk around. The room itself was beat up and filthy. There was what appeared to be feces on one of the towels, the door had a poorly repaired hole (at least painting it to match would have been nice!) and the floor was so dirty our socks turned black on the bottom! We couldn’t leave fast enough and will never go back to this hotel.

Just a quick stop heading from Portland to Bar Harbor. Had a non-smoking room and when we walked in it smelled like smoke and also musty. Hairs were in shower and sink. When I dripped some water on the tile bathroom floor and used a towel to wipe it up, I looked at it afterwards and it was black from the dirtiness of the floor. The man working in the morning at the front desk was very nice. The man who checked me in at night wasn't sure of the times of the breakfast in the morning. There is an old dirty mattress against a tree at the end of the parking lot. It served the purpose of a place to stay and was recently renovated, but not somewhere I would stay again. There were still places on the wall that were primed but not painted. Walls were very thin and could hear neighbors.

This place had a good price for an otherwise expensive area, although I wish it had been more forthcoming about the every-other-day maid service. Hot coffee (no breakfast) was good, and a rarity these days. Location is close the a major grocery, LL Bean and other attractions in Freeport. Wish the TV got major networks, not just ESPN, etc.
