Enjoyed another visit to this delightful place located at the footh of the Forth Bridge, with fine views of the tworoad bridges and the Firth of Forth itself. Registeration is quick and easy at the bar. This time we had a family room which was spacious, well furnished, warm and comfortable. Our booking included breakfast, which was more than adequate...

Room good, view great, wifi difficult to obtain. In gereral staff very good but found breakfast staff not so friendly, did not offer any info on continental breakfast so had to guess about the workings of the toaster and had to ask about sweetners, maybe a litlte more interaction with the guests would be good.

Hi Margaret. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are glad you enjoyed your time with us but disappointed to read that your breakfast experience wasn't up to our usual high standards. We will work to ensure this is not repeated. Hope to see you again soon Thanks Team Hawes

Stayed one night, came by train. Just a warning- it's not far to walk, but fairly steep steps make it difficult for less mobile. There is a road route, but seems quite a bit longer. Comfortable hotel, with good ambience. We asked for, and got, a view over the rail bridge, and surprisingly did not find it particularly noisy. The...

We decided to nip in for lunch but I think we caught them on a bad day. Our focaccia was really hard (on both sandwiches) and had to go back. Although they were replaced, it did feel begrudged. Our onions rings were dire. Although the manager said they'd be removed from the bill, they weren't. The decor is lovely and...

The Inn is centered on a historical theme carried throughout the building, and sits next to an iconic landmark the Forth rail bridge, so expect trains and associated noise. It's an old historical building full of character, which is kept to a very good standard, and housekeeping is on a daily basis. The food is of a high standard, and a...

Staff were very friendly and found us a table for 4 no problem then we're lovely when we asked to swap to a seat with a view. The young man that served us couldn't have been more helpful. Not the fastest service but very nice staff. We will keep going back.

We stayed over on 27th January. Arrived at tea time and room (3) was lovely and warm. Bedroom was massive and the everything was spotlessly clean. Very comfortable bed and great shower. Price excellent and all the staff were welcoming and friendly. Cold breakfast included in price (+ toast) but we upgraded and paid for two cooked breakfasts. Lee in...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Few hotels in and around Edinburgh can match this lodge for its views or place in literary history. Many of its 14 cosy rooms look out over the iconic Forth Road Bridge and the Firth of the Forth estuary, and it's said that legendary author Robert Louis Stevenson wrote part of his famous novel Kidnapped here - there's even a mention of The Hawes Inn in the book. Just 10 miles from the city centre, the South Queensferry lodge is an ideal base for visiting Scotland's historic capital, where you can explore Edinburgh Castle, the shops of the Royal Mile or the city's many museums and restaurants. Also perfect for golfers, it's within striking distance of Carnoustie and St Andrew's and close to the birthplace of golf at the East Neuk of Fife. The Tudor Gothic Dalmeny House and Georgian Hopetoun House are also well worth a visit. ... more   less
