Stopped of with some friends after a walk in the hills. Sun was out so it was time to sit in the beer garden. Good beer and great companions and all of a sudden we were all feeling the effects of drinking far to much beer. Had a few bowls of chips between the team which were good. The staff...

Your stay is made more enjoyable by the lovely couple who run this B&B. They really look after you. The pub has friendly locals and is very quaint and comfortable. The rooms are clean and comfortable. I have stayed at this B&B for many years. Now it is the best it has every been. Look forward to returning.

The Half Moon has changed hands since our last visit 2 years ago, but the welcome was just as warm. The owners go out of their way to make sure that everyone is well catered for. There was a television and on the night of our stay it was on - understandably as Wales were playing in the European cup...

Located in beautiful valley in welsh hills in National Park, this B&B offers clean, basic rooms and good pub food. Very friendly and helpful proprietor. The fact that it needs renovation just adds to its charm. Very well patronised by mostly hikers.

A group of us were staying in the bunkbarn in Llanthony just up the road from the Half Moon. We decided to go there for dinner on the Saturday night. It was really nice. One of our group left his wallet behind and Steve the landlord brought it up to the bunkbarn later that night, superb

Whilst paying a visit to Llanthony Priory we decided to walk through the field to this Hotel for refreshment. There was a very warm welcome when we entered from both the Landlord, Landlady and the 2 dogs. We ordered 1 plough mans lunch with cheese and 1 with Tuna and they were very delicious washed down with a very tasteful...

Early Spring and midweek... a cold night but a warm welcome... Personable and friendly landlord, excellent beer, great food prepared by the landlord's wife and a warm convivial evening in the company of the resident pub dog beside a crackling wood fire

A group of us stayed here after taking part in The Black Mountain Challenge. It was a perfect place to unwind after a long day and the food and drink was enjoyed by all. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the sun in the beer garden when we first arrived. We found the hosts very friendly and they ensured we had...

Came here today for lunch, having not visiting the place for many years, and was not disappointed. There were 4 of us in the party. 2 had the hand carved ham, egg and chips, 1 had Chilli con carne with half rice and half chips with garlic bread and I had the Beef and ale casserole. All the meals were...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Half Moon Hotel is set in a peaceful and secluded spot in the beautiful Black Mountains, part of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Next door to Llanthony Priory. The friendly 17th-century pub is an ideal base for walkers (we are not far from the Offas Dyke Path and on the beacons way path). We are also well situated to explore the Norman border castles, old churches and chapels of the Welsh borders. The small town of Abergavenny is 10 miles away. Hay-on-Wye 13 miles, Hereford 25 miles and Cardiff 40 miles. The Half Moon serves good food, real ales & tea & coffee, child friendly pub. We also have a beer garden for your use and dogs are welcome. Pony trekking is available close by and caters for all ages and abilities. The Half Moon is situated in an area designated as a dark sky at night location and is therefore ideal for stargazers and photographers. Our accommodation is basic due to the age of the building, but a warm welcome and good food and ale is offered to all our visitors. The Half Moon is currently undergoing a major refurbishment and therefore there is some disruption to normal service however we are working extremely hard to keep the disturbance to our guests to a minimum. Should you have any concerns regarding this please contact us ... more   less
