No frills, but Steve and Lynda could not have been more welcoming and helpful, particularly to put up with our muddy boots and dogs after a long walk in the hills. We made the mistake of eating down the road at the Priory in the evening and should have stayed in the bar at the Half Moon. Good beer, a...

Enjoyed 3 nights here with fantastic walking from the door, great beer, comfy beds and good breakfast. Very welcoming hosts and cosy logburner in the bar. Everything you need for a great winter getaway.

The Hunters chicken was just what was needed after a blisteringly cold yomp up the ridge and along the offa's dyke path, if i was up there any longer i do believe my ears would have shattered and fallen off the side of my face. The beer, Butty Bach, was good, as ever and the pub was pretty standard for...

A return trip to this warm friendly relaxing pub/B&B. A great place to soak in the fantastic views. We love returning to our special break away, where we can take a walk to take in the stunning views or as a base to visit other places. We spent a week here and really enjoyed our relaxing, chilled out time. I...

We were grateful to find it open at 2.30 on a Friday. The landlady was welcoming to us and our wet dogs. That was very nice. We had a very refreshing drink. Two of us had fish and chips and two had chilli and chips. The meals were fine. The chips good! This pub needs to work on its toilets....

What a wonderful pub. We stopped in for Sunday lunch. Unpretentious homely Sunday lunch. There was no jus or any other nonsense just roast beef Yorkshire puddings etc... Beautiful views as we ate in the garden. Welcoming friendly helpful staff. Thoroughly recommended.

We pre-ordered our meal as we were a party of thirteen visiting this very traditional country pub on Sun 4th Sept . We were celebrating a birthday and the landlords Linda and Steve very kindly decorated their large dining room with banners and balloons. We had wonderful home cooked food and the meals were very reasonably priced. Linda and Steve...

Lovely meal, cooked fresh from order so some wait, but that's fair enough for good fresh food. Lovely cosy pub meal. Varied menu, very reasonable prices, garden at the back for warm days, warm and cosy inside for cooler times. Set amongst the mountains nice views, walking distance from llanthonny, popular with locals.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Half Moon Hotel is set in a peaceful and secluded spot in the beautiful Black Mountains, part of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Next door to Llanthony Priory. The friendly 17th-century pub is an ideal base for walkers (we are not far from the Offas Dyke Path and on the beacons way path). We are also well situated to explore the Norman border castles, old churches and chapels of the Welsh borders. The small town of Abergavenny is 10 miles away. Hay-on-Wye 13 miles, Hereford 25 miles and Cardiff 40 miles. The Half Moon serves good food, real ales & tea & coffee, child friendly pub. We also have a beer garden for your use and dogs are welcome. Pony trekking is available close by and caters for all ages and abilities. The Half Moon is situated in an area designated as a dark sky at night location and is therefore ideal for stargazers and photographers. Our accommodation is basic due to the age of the building, but a warm welcome and good food and ale is offered to all our visitors. The Half Moon is currently undergoing a major refurbishment and therefore there is some disruption to normal service however we are working extremely hard to keep the disturbance to our guests to a minimum. Should you have any concerns regarding this please contact us ... more   less
