My husband and I have stayed at Madewood twice. This time we took our 17 year old daughter and her friend on our way to NOLA to a wedding and a Tulane tour. We will return again. It is a beautiful home with the most hospitable, helpful staff. Staying at Madewood is unique. It is not a hotel, it is...

This Henry Howard plantation is one of the great show places of South Louisiana. The grounds, cemetery and views enhance the magnificent architecture. However, I would strongly suggest that you book in the main building. The 3-bedroom "cabin" with the screened porch looks charming FROM THE OUTSIDE, and the porch is pleasant. BUT the interior leaves much to be desired....

We are delighted that these guests, descendants of the builder and original owner of Madewood, found the mansion so impressive, and we thank them for the compliments. But why the unkind words about Freeman Cottage, the modest cabin of the Freeman family, who lived in it for seven generations after being brought from North Carolina to Louisiana as slaves by...

What a delightful experience it was to stay here. After touring far less spectacular plantations with less impressive furnishings, it felt amazing to move about and enjoy the home like a real guest with gracious host in an amazing southern plantation. From getting dressed up for wine and cheese in the library before dinner to sleeping in an antique canopy...

While travelling through the south, we decided to spend the night at/on a plantation. The pictures and write up for Madewood, seemed enticing so decided to try here. Madewood has seen better days - a long time ago. Granted up keep on a house of this size and age must be expensive, but it is in need of much restoration...

Madewood has never been grander in its 170 years than it is today, with Waterford chandeliers and furniture by noted 19th-century craftsmen such as Meeks and Lee. Please view the beautiful photos of the Main House and Charlet House that these guests posted here. I would like to clarify several misconceptions: 1. In the spring, we welcome the arrival of...

Spent Valentines here and loved the experience. Hospitality was wonderful and enjoyed meeting the other guests. Keep in mind that it is an old plantation so some of the modern amenities in a hotel aren't here but we wanted to stay in a plantation and this was perfect! Hope to come back

This place is well passed its prime. It's old and generally very dark. Not very well looked after. And very overpriced! We stayed in the master bedroom. The bedroom was so small and no clean either. There were lots of hair and stains left on the toilet, shower and sink. We had the three course dinner. And it was not...

When we make a mistake at Madewood, we acknowledge it, apologize and make every effort to resolve any difficulties to a guest’s satisfaction. But we must know while the guest is in residence, and this guest seemed happy with our apologies, substitution and a complimentary bottle of wine. Based on other guests’ appraisals, we would respectfully disagree with the comment...

One of the famed Henry Howard designed properties, Madewood Plantation really exceeded my expectations. The house is large, and beautifully decorated with period pieces. A lot of family history of the owner lies about, in photos and books (note Bill Clinton in the Rhodes Scholar photo). Lush carpeting, a serene balcony. Wandering the property is fun, too. An old family...

We are delighted that these guests took full advantage of all that Madewood has to offer. Not only are we a National Historic Landmark priviate residence; the grounds provide a relaxing spot for wandering, and learning history in the original family cemetery. We strive to ensure that every guest feels that Madewood is his or her home for the night,...

We booked at Madewood after looking quite a bit into the different plantation hotels and B&B's.We were three adults, looking for two bedrooms. The plantation offers several rooms that actually include two bedrooms with one bath for the same cost. A great option for us. We were not disappointed. We stepped back in time in this very tastefully renovated mansion,...

Thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure to have you as part of the Madewood family. And Jack the kitten has found a lovely new home with guests who stayed with us recently.

We were incredibly lucky to gave this amazing place all to ourselves!! From check in to check out, we were treated like members of the family, and our dinner was delicious. Worth every penny...a true way to be Scarlett o'hara for a night!! The family graveyard is worth a visit, and spend some time with the photos in the library...great...

This lovely antebellum house is indeed a "grande dame" and set in a pretty location. The grounds are not large, but make for a pleasant walk and the family cemetery is worth a look. We opted for the Master bedroom because of access to the front gallery, but others we met liked their rooms too. I imagine all of the...

We are delighted that these guests enjoyed their stay at Madewood. I would like, however, to clarify some misconceptions. Food quantity is a matter of opinion. Most of our guests feel that our portions are generous, but we are glad to know if someone feels they are insufficient. A guest can always request more food; but we must know at...
