Stayed one night on thanksgiving. It was quiet and the front desk clerk was pleasant. The location is definitely where this hotel stands out. We had a ripped sheet on the bed. I did bring it to their attention upon checkout. However nothing was done.

- HIghlights: The main attraction or this hotel is its location, right by the main bridge that goes to Ohio and also with several restaurants around it. The rooms are spacious and well kept. The bathroom is nice and you have access to tea and coffee as well as a mini fridge in your room. - Lowlights: Due to COVID, the free breakfast was not available and the bar that was supposed to be open was only open at the end of the week and the weekend.

A room with a king bed for my wife and I on a Saturday evening with NO breakfast....... $263.00 Outrageous. We actually had to move to another room because of the smell. The room we moved to was directly across the hall and was just cleaned (the floor was still wet from mopping). They used a spray air freshner. We went to dinner and came back a few hours later........to a smelly room. The spray wore off. I suspect the management knows about the issue. It is a very VERY musty smell. Almost nauseating. The room is extremely small too. I'm not opposed to spending $250 or more. We do it quite often. BUT, I expect quality and service. None of which we received by Marriott Aloft in Newport. Being a Marriott Envoy member is overrated.

As Marriott Gold Elite, we were very disappointed upon check-in to be told by the front desk that "We don't do upgrades here". They also don't do late check-out, or gift points, either. Why should we be loyal to the brand, then, I ask? The hotel is only 4 years old, and is already showing wear and tear far beyond that. Worn carpets, the wallpaper in our room was pulling apart at the seams from water leakage, etc. In an attempt to appeal to be trendy, hip, whatever, Marriott has invested in these loft-style properties, much to the dismay of older, seasoned travelers. The room we booked was tiny, and laid out poorly. There was only one chair to sit on. The safe didn't work, nor did the in-room phone. We had to call the desk on our cellphone to have the safe repaired (which was promptly taken care of.) We asked for more towels, as there is no daily housekeeping, and we never received any. The desk did send up a second chair when we asked, but the room was so small you had to move them around just to walk. The walls are thin, and you will be up all night due to hallway noise and ambient sounds from the neighborhood. Water pressure in the sink and shower was poor. There are zero drawers or closets for your clothing., so be prepared to live out of your suitcase, or pile everything on the bench that takes up one wall. Parking is also $10 per day. The staff we encountered were very nice, but several lamented that there aren't enough people willing to work, and that they are short staffed and over worked. For an employee to vent to me like that in the elevator is very telling. If you are a Marriot/Bonvoy Rewards member, there is absolutely zero advantage for you to stay here.

We are older travelers who stay at Marriott properties exclusively. Aloft is different from a traditional hotel, catering to the younger travelers, but we chose it because of the proximity to the Hofbräuhaus across the street. The rooms are a bit smaller than what we are used to, but we'll laid out and functional. After adjusting our attitude we decided it was a great place to stay.
