Amazing hotel and beautiful history and architecture, but the most incredible part of the hotel is Patrick. He is a wonderful historian and storyteller. He made our entire trip perfect. When we return to Louisville, finding him will be our first plan of action. He is a wealth of knowledge, not just of the Seelbach hotel, but the colorful history of Louisville all together. Highly recommend the Seelbach hotel and finding Patrick and learning from him

The history is what sold us on this hotel! The connection of this particular hotel to prohibition gangsters (Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, and George Remus) as well as the impact it had on F Scott Fitzgerald and the Great Gatsby is just too cool!

As soon as you walk into the lobby of this hotel, it just exudes early 1900s elegance. From the marble columns to the chandeliers to the gold colored accents - you feel like you're stepping back in time.

One of the coolest things was a tour the night security guard Patrick gave us. This is a MUST DO whether you are a guest of the hotel or simply poking your head in to check it out! Patrick showed us the amazing Rathskeller room, the "Oak" room (where Al Capone played cards and had an escape tunnel), and the wedding room which inspired F Scotts Fitzgerald to use this room as the site of Tom & Daisy Buchannan's wedding.

The location of this hotel was also wonderful. It is just outside the bars and restaurants of Fourth Street Live! It is also walkable distance to many of the distilleries and attractions on Whiskey Row. Despite its excellent location, there is very little street noise which was great!

There were two potential negatives:

1) The rooms are VERY small. It was fine for us, since we really did not much spend much time in the hotel. But these rooms are some of the smallest we've ever stayed in.

2) The restaurant downstairs in the hotel is very overpriced. This hotel does have a bit of space for conventions, and I feel like they are used to having tabs covered by employers who send people to attend these conventions. The food is on the higher side. But the bourbon is outrageously priced! Find somewhere else to sample your bourbon. It's worth paying an Uber to escape these prices.

All in all, we did have a wonderful experience here. If I was in town, I would gladly stay again. However, I may opt to get a bigger room and I would certainly not be eating or drinking at the hotel again.

We stayed here for a couples Bourbon Trail trip. The bed was super comfy. Very friendly staff. Parking was secure. Even though due to Covid they were not turning rooms over daily they delivered towels and toiletries as needed and fast!

The Steelbach was a fabulous stay. Lots of history and central location. Rooms had high ceilings and old world furnishings it was like stepping back in history great gadsby style. The only thing we found disappointing was the restaurants inability to allow us to purchase a to go breakfast.

Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor, it is very much appreciated. I am glad you enjoyed the historical aspects of the hotel. Many of our guests feel the same way. I will address the lack of a to-go breakfast with the food and beverage director- we should be able to accommodate such a request. Thank you for staying with us. I hope to have the opportunity to serve you again. V Wilder, General Manager

Look, I didn’t expect a legit 4 or 5 star hotel.
Coming in for the Derby and paying a $1600 a night rate is fine.
But this place is a just beat up with no pride of ownership.
King room has water leaking in from AC stains and current leaks still going. Can be seen in many areas of hotel.
Bathroom is unfit for anyone over 5’ tall with a tub shower you have to duck to get in to.
Hotel could be a nice story has someone bothered to remodel it and put any money back. It doesn’t even have the basics you’d get in a simple holiday inn or Marriott low end travelers hotel.
Elevators beat up , cheap furnishings and a poor excuse for a buffet breakfast.
The old bar is nice throw back and people are nice. Service a little backwards but you can deal with that.
Come on, you took a old hotel and now have a old run down hotel.
We wouldn’t come back here for the derby or a normal weekend even for 150 bucks a night. Someone with some pride of ownership and runs hotels should buy it , gut it , preserve character , and make it in to a legit 3 star cleaned up location. That’s what the rest of classic locations do around the country.

Found the hotel to be clean and the staff friendly. Valet car service was quick. The restaurant bar had a wonderful assortment of bourbon selections while the food offerings were typical bar fair(not a negative).

The historical aspect should be brought more forward in the value of considering this hotel. The entrance is grand, and if you are aware of its past, the hotel can be stunning. But not much mentions its history, other than a Capone cutout in the bar. The rooms are seriously dated though modernized, and that charm is more easily accepted when pacing a value of the history.

Access to downtown is all well within walking distance and 4th St Live is right around the corner. Plenty of dining and entertainment options are all nearby. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that places even the slightest value of its rich and storied history. If not, there are more modern viable options nearby.

Pros: We stayed here for NYE, location, location, location. This is our third year staying here for NYE. Walked to dinner at the seafood restaurant across the street, then walked to the big NYE party on 4th Street Live.
Bell staff and valet were very attentive.
Hotel was decorated beautifully and check in with front desk was flawless.
We stayed in a suite on the executive floor, there were complimentary soft drinks, and an evening reception with an "honor" cash bar and some snacks.
Cons: Nothing really distinguished my status as a silver member. Usually there is at least water bottles given upon check in, not here. Also I had a two room suite, and there was only one mirror, which was in the bathroom. No full body mirror. For that much space, everyone had to take turns getting ready in front of one small mirror in the small bathroom. Very inconvenient. The hotel is older, but charming. The rooms could definitely use renovating.

My husband and I gave a gift to our granddaughter of an overnight at this beautiful hotel for her wedding night. Having stayed there in the past, I knew it would be a lovely experience for them. On the day of her wedding I contacted the front desk to make sure all was in order and to let them know of the occasion of the couple's stay. In response, someone upgraded their room to a suite (at no extra cost) and included a welcome gift of Bourbon Balls and a nice note. May I just say how thrilling this was for the young couple! They were quite taken aback by the exquisite luxury of the room and the gift.

Kuddos to everyone at The Seelbach!

Though I’ve been coming to the Seelbach since I was a child, This will be my last visit to the Seelbach. Our room had only one chair, so if my husband sat on the chair, I had to sit on the bed. I asked to be switched to a different room but was informed no other rooms were available. I have difficulty believing this to be true.
The dining options were terrible. The ONLY breakfast option was to order the $20 buffet. Nothing was available to be ordered off the menu. I typically like something light for breakfast and certainly didn’t want a full buffet breakfast. On Sunday, the local coffee shops downtown were closed, so there was literally nowhere else to go for breakfast. Lunch was nonexistent. The room where breakfast is served closes at 11a and the bar that also serves bar food doesn’t open until 4p. In addition, I had to pay $3 for a paper cup of black coffee. At any Hampton Inn, I can get a cup of black coffee in the lobby for no charge. Certainly not what I expect from a luxury hotel. I will not return to this hotel.
