Went for a meal with my wife and ended up disgusted. Random sides of salad with garlic mushroom starter (iceberg lettice, some chopped red onion and a bit of tomato). So the 10oz steak was just wrong, it was the cheapest bit of meat weve ever seen and definitly not 10oz!! The chips were just frozen rubbish put in deep...

Stayed for two nights with friends. On first arrival we were taken aback by having to pay. Normally payment is made on departure as per practice in all other hotels and guest houses I have stayed. Then we went up to the room and discovered that it didn't lock. They did fix it before bed time whilst we were out...

I'm staying here tonight and it's a lovely place to spend a night. Bar maid was very chatty and friendly and the food was pretty decent. The rooms are to a high standard and the pub/restaurant are very good. And the grounds... Plenty place for the kids/dogs to run around and the views are good aswell. I'd recommend a visit...

Good points first. Bed was surprisingly comfortable and the (shared) bathroom was spotlessly clean. Good, free wifi signal throughout the pub and large gardens. Good range of TV channels, all the standard Freeview stuff. Not so good points... Bathroom was very dated and a bit shabby (although very clean). Oatmeal bathroom suite was straight from the 1980s! We had to...

Arrived to be told after driving for 5 hours that no room available although previously booked with confirmation, but this was later sorted. The room looked more like a storeroom (Room 6) Although loads of wardrobes in room only one small one was available and this already had clothes in it (later removed) , The carpets and room were in...

My husband and I decided to go on a cycling holiday in the Forest of Dean and randomly picked the Royal Oak to saty in for two nights. I am so glad we did because the staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming. Our first night was great fun getting to know the locals and the landlord Chas...

We stayed here for two nights last year 2015 and were very disappointed the minute we walked in the door. From the website the pub looked like a lovely village bed and breakfast but unfortunately didn't live up to the photos. The rooms were very, very basic with cheep beds and very poorly decorated. When you are first taken up...

The staff here are very nice and quite attentive. Sadly the food doesn't live up to expectations. Not expensive but still not really value for money. Normally my family send back empty plates but not this time. Whitebait had a very strange taste which although I couldn't smell them I can only put down to needing fresh oil in the...
