Shatrunjai Singh Chundawat is an old school pal. Hence I was biased when I visited Devshree with my family (wife and two young boys) a couple of years ago. I expected an enchanting Rajasthani fort with employees running around in a typical family inheritance turned hotel managed by a large hotel management group story, always wonderful and always delivering the Rajputana aura and culture. I have many friends with the most enchanting and beautiful forts and palaces and at the risk of having to pay my bills next time I visit them, I'll submit that all of them by now are a bit blase. The camel rides, the glorious ancestors staring down from walled paintings evoking a fierce and proud culture and tradition have become habitual. I go to meet my friends to catch up on our 45 year history, talk about the good old days of boarding school and see how they're doing today and have a laugh. Their existence in our millennium is phatasmagoric (in a nice way), I live in their world vicariously for a brief capsule of time to get my cathartic chops each decade or so. I go to meet my friends in Rajasthan, unfortunately many are busy with the reality of the business of delivering the dream and seem not unlike I do in my office back in Hong Kong, fidgety, stressed and curt. But it's different in Devshree, Shatrunjai and his better two thirds - his charming wife Bhavna are really living in their stately home and they're really opening up their home to you. No pretenses and make believe in Devshree. No ramparts and decaying walls speaking of battles gone by (his brother runs that experience but that's another story). Devshree is an embodiment of Shatrunjai's and Bhavna's and their two son's recent dreams and toils to deliver Rajputana culture 2.0 . It has the elegance of the Riviera with palm trees, shimmering lake, scampering jack russells, drives in open safari jeeps with picnics and hip flasks ( for a quick tug of heaven) to catch a glimpse of their resident leopard all curated and chaperoned by Shatru himself. Next you'll see him cooking up a storm, passionately and always with blithe and unbridled humour and then regaling the guests with stories. He's quite the raconteur, my pal Shatru. At Devshree, the host and hostess are the stars, the beautiful property is an extension of their personalities. Their charisma and presence brings their stylish and beautiful property to life . If Devshree was a living being (say a beautiful apsara), the Chateaux would be the body and the owners, its soul. No journey on the road to Udaipur is complete without meeting my friends Shatrunjai and Bhavna and enjoying their genuine warmth and hospitality at Devshree. That is the experience!

This property was the highlight of our recent trip to Rajasthan. From the moment you drive into their compound and you see the stunning building you feel like you are in a different world. I don’t have anything more to add to all the great reviews here and will just like to confirm that they are all true. I will just say that Bhavna & Shatru are wonderful hosts and we really felt like we were just visiting the home of one of our old friends. I will highly recommend that you visit Dev Shree but you need to stay for a minimum of 4-5 days and not just 2 like we did. We will definitely be going back for a longer visit.

The most memorable part of our Rajasthan trip. we stayed just 2 nights (definitely recommend 3 to 4 nights . The host Bhavana & Shatrunjai made our experience Magical. Be it breakfast in the veranda, lunch in the garden or stately dinners in dinning room. Designed as traditional Haveli with large bedroom high ceilings and large bathroom with view of the garden. each of the seven rooms is designed uniquely. Many activities from walking or cycling in the country side. visit to local school, bird watching especially in winter when the migratory birds are there. jeep safari and if lucky sighting of a leopard. photography be it landscape birds portraits. cooking class or just sitting and relaxing in veranda garden ....Devishree is destination by itself .Must mention about staff , always ready to serve. its was magical experience always edged in our memory.

Dev Shree is a beautiful luxury resort in Deogarh, a small town between Udaipur and Jaipur. The property is easily accessible, being just about 4 kms off the interstate highway. Don't expect much from the town, but you will not want to step out of the property anyway, so that's not a problem. This is a single floor property with 8 aesthetically pleasing and very comfortable rooms set around a central courtyard. One of the most interesting features of the architecture is how cool the rooms were despite the blazing sun overhead - we barely needed any air conditioning despite 30-35 degrees temperatures on the outside. The property has a large dining cum lounge area, and an absolutely gorgeous porch that overlooks a well manicured lawn that in turn overlooks a lake. This is where you want to spend most of your time. Dev Shree scores very highly on its architecture and interiors, and has a great collection of artefacts to boost, and its delightful to explore and admire the many pieces of art and other objects all over the property. The hosts, Shatrunjai and Bhavna, and their sons, are extremely hospitable, and interesting conversationalists. We felt vey welcome, and also learnt from them. But the highlight of this place is the food - it is excellent. The food can best be described as local gourmet, raising homely indigenous cuisine to art levels. Every meal was a feast, and every offering better than the next. This alone, and I do not exaggerate when I say this, is enough of a reason to visit this property for a couple of days. Finally, the hotel is not as expensive as the various travel sites would have you believe. Contact the property directly, and you will be able to get much better rates. And at those rates, this is very VFM. I strongly recommend making a visit to Dev Shree, not just if you are in Rajasthan, but for this property alone.

We stayed 03 nights at this wonderful home. The location facing a lake is perfect with large gardens and open spaces to walk around. The staff is very caring and take care of all your needs. They also take you on a safari in open jeep , we were lucky to spot a leopard. Also, the hikes around the lakes at nearby distances are serene . The food is excellent and they prepare as per your taste . The homely touch makes the food taste even more delicious. The rooms are good with all basic modern amenities. We liked the big room near the reception and also the garden facing room . There is a tv in the restaurant and wifi connectivity is excellent. All safety measures for covid are in place. The entire property is well sanitised and hygiene levels are top class. The hosts are wonderful and they really make you feel at home. This property is a hidden gem and an oasis in the desert. I would certainly repeat. The host family deserves kudos for their hospitality!!
