This hotel is literally a palace, and the family who lives here is so warm and welcoming. We were the only guests at the time, and the family had meals with us (absolutely delicious) and visited with us and we felt like part of the family. Their dogs were adorable and so friendly and well behaved. The rooms are gorgeous, the beds are so comfortable, and the paintings by a local artist, and handicrafts made by local women in the village are so beautiful and well priced. Our only regret is that we only booked one night. Be sure to book multiple nights here and enjoy the relaxed beauty of this property and their excellent staff.

If you are looking for some downtime and a break from the bustle, noise and energy of the cities of Rajasthan, the Dev Shree in Deogarh meets the brief. This elegant, boutique and small homestyle hotel is a tranquil place where you can spend a few days in rest and relaxation mode. This excellent homestead is run by the owners and their two sons who greet you and immediately make you feel at home and include you as one of the family. The rooms are large and very comfortably appointed, meals are offered as family style with the family and other guests in attendance and the food being excellent examples of various regions of India. All other requests for food preferences were easily accommodated. Small excursions exploring the surrounding rural villages and countryside are available and a sundowner jeep ride to see spectacular sunsets was a wonder. Staying on the property and just relaxing at their pool or wide verandah and keeping the 4 friendly dogs company is also a perfectly lovely way to unwind. The hosts can tell you much about the local area and their family history which goes back to the 1500s. If touring Rajasthan, this place is very much worth the small detour and time to spend a few days here to recharge and revitalise.

Dev Shree is beautiful and very comfortable home where you can be assured of the very best of welcomes.Sitting out on the terrace overlooking the absolutely beautiful gardens for breakfast or a pot of tea or coffee is absolute bliss. The bedrooms are so very comfortable and all furnished with elegant style with large well equipped bathrooms. The food is delicious and varied. …. But above all the wonderful welcome given by hosts Shatrunjai and Bhavna Singh is absolutely wonderful…they make you feel completely at home — and Shatrunjai is so happy to - is SO enthusiastic about showing guests the beauty of the area - the magnificent hills all around where leopards roam and the simplicity of village life. I am always VERY sorry to leave Dev Shree and. look forward to my return. I cannot recommend a visit to Dev Shree more highly

Amazing stay at this palace hotel which doubles as the home of our hosts Shatrunjai & Bhavinda and their two sons who are all Rajasthan royal family. We were lucky to be the only two guests staying and had one of the largest rooms we have ever stayed in. Nothing was too much trouble for them and their staff. We stayed on a full board basis and all our meals were excellent as was their company of an evening and we were made to feel very much part of the family. The palace hotel is beautiful as were the grounds and views over the lake with shady veranda and pool area. We appreciated the evening courtyard log fire and drinks under the stars plus the hot water bottles (this was winter time) !

We would totally recommend the massages and reflexology from their resident local guide and fitness guy who also took us on a walk around the lake and lovely local village centre.
Absolutely our best stay in Rajasthan, we loved it. N&C

We just departed this elegant lodging, where we were welcomed warmly by the lovely couple who own it and served conscientiously by the staff. Built in 2014, the beautiful estate has the appearance and ambiance of a princely house from an earlier generation. Our suite was large and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed massages, a local train ride, and the evening safari. Drinks in the courtyard before dinner around a fire provided an opportunity to visit with our gracious hosts and other guests. The same is true of the delicious meals we enjoyed at breakfast, lunch, and dinner at shared tables. The cuisine was flavorful and well presented and seasoned. In addition to local and regional dishes, western options were available at breakfast. We regretted leaving this superb property and would be pleased to return. Do not the miss the opportunity to enjoy such fine hospitality and service. We left refreshed and with warm memories.

I rather fear I'm out of step here. This was a deliberately planned return to Deogarh after a previous hugely enjoyable visit 6 years before. My agent persuaded me to stay at the Dev Shree rather than an intended return to 'the place that must not be mentioned'. First off, let me stress that we were made extremely welcome and the staff were remarkably friendly and attentive throughout. The place is very comfortable but, I'm afraid, rather soulless. Clearly a huge amount of effort has been put into the design and styling but that's just what it is. I've stayed in many delightful properties across the length and breadth of India over 20+ years and the Dev Shree, understandably, lacks 'character'. The meals were beautifully prepared and served but the absence of a menu meant you couldn't 'pace' the meal. Dishes just kept appearing and we all failed to do full justice to the chef's efforts. It was disappointing that a 'fine dining' experience at an extremely pricey venue couldn't run to even a single complimentary glass of "Sula" at Dinner. The biggest disappointment is beyond the Dev Shree's control. Much of the appeal of visiting Deogarh was the delightful charm of Rural India and the Dev Shree trades on that "experience". However, the area is now overwhelmed by extensive granite and feldspar mining. The local landscape is being destroyed on a massive scale - "Sundowners" took place on a convenient spoil tip. You will have a relaxing and enjoyable stay at Dev Shree, especially if you're a relatively inexperienced visitor to Rural India. I'm just not sure that the 'package' justifies the price point.

Response from Shatrunjai Singh Chundawat, Owner at Dev Shree Deogarh
Responded 28 Mar 2023
Thank you for your feedback. We are a bit disappointed that the members of the family who are present 24X7 have not managed to add soul to this property. Our experience of staying in India is trying to replicate a home of an old family. We don't want to be commercial in pricing all our activities and drives with menu cards however those are available in the folder in your room. The next time you visit do try our experiences of 1.Farm walk 2. Treks to hilltops 3. Rural Train Ride 4. Cycle ride, etc However your feedback is well-noted and we will deliberate on the same.

Most enjoyable two night stay. Located in Deogarh, by the lake, the owners ensure a warm welcome. All meals were excellently prepared; their home is very comfortable with great size bedroom.

Do treat yourself to a massage by Mukesh, and for the gents, he does a great wet shave.

A wonderful experience with fascinating hosts, Shatrunjai, Bhavna and their charming sons Mahadriti and Bhagyaditya. The house is out of this world and it is impossible to believe it has recently been built. There is a relaxed atmosphere which makes you feel immediately at home and welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed the colonial style dinners at the large dining room table as well as lunches on the lawn. Our room was spacious and most comfortable and we really enjoyed all our expeditions and spa treatments (as a side note, we couldn't find a price list for the excursions, perhaps we were looking in the wrong place but it would have been good to know before booking). Nice shop with local arterfacts. WiFi not so good in our room but not sure how to improve given the size of the property. Thank you to you all for making us feel most welcome in your amazing home - we will highly recommend staying with you to anyone and hope we may return again one day.

Anyone who prefers anonymous, functional, multi-star hotels should book elsewhere. Anyone who has had enough of that will be more than happy with the unusually personal and extremely friendly service in this truly beautiful oasis surrounded by Indian nature. The food is excellent for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as are the little escapes (in our case) included in the booking with the rural railway, bird watching and the prince's jeep (as driver) with the obligatory sundowner by the lake. In every respect, the highlight of our days in India so far - which (in connection with the many, far too brief conversations) led to an invitation for the host couple to our homeland.

We really enjoyed our stay at Dev Shree. Beautiful location and grounds. The family is lovely and shares so much about the culture, the history, the flora and fauna of the area. The food and accomodations are top notch.
We explored the surrounding area, went on a train ride and spotted a leopard (as well as some owlets and an antalope!)

I think if you booked ahead. Their lunches are enjoyable and take usually as a big table everyone sitting together but they are very accommodating so send an email or phone first.
