This place reminds me of tropical version of my grandfather's cabins in the Berkshires. There is a rustic charm and closeness to nature in La Choza. From the local wood used in post and beam construction, the orchids, herbs and even a natural bio-gas fuel source. The communal kitchen is ample and spacious enough for a few cooks. The rancho, palm thatched roof huts make for a outdoor lifestyle typical to the beach. The operators Chicho and Jeanks make a spectacular pair of hosts combining modern and courteous hospitality with outdoorsmen know-how you'd only get from people well respecting the ecology and environment around them.
We stayed for 1 night , but we enjoyed every single minute there. Our host Chicho, was the best. Very nice service, all the facilities were clean. We had A/C, hot water (shared bathrooms, super cleans), shared kitchen with a nice dining area. We highly recommend. Also, Chicho suggested to us the new pizza restaurant next to the hostel.. And wow, the pizza was sooo good (LAS TERRAZAS), good price and great quality.
When i arrived with the Selina shuttle from Panama City to in Playa Venao it was a short walk to La Choza. The minute I entered the litte hut where the reception was i felt kinda home already. The Vibe here is friendly and welcoming and Chicho is the best host you can wish for. He had some great recommendations for eating and trips in the area. I had a room for my own which was very clean and enough space for my stuff plus AC. The bathroom facilities are in a nice open area and as well very clean. The Stuff really took good care of everybody. Choosing La Choza was the best decision for me, the other hostels are more busy till midnight and it might be hard for some travellers to catch some sleep, if they just want to surf the next morning :) that might be probably what you gonna do when you are in Playa Venao. First I booked for 6 nights, but after 3 nights already i made my decision to book for 9 more nights and stay the whole holiday at this place and if i could i would have stayed there for 3 more weeks! The waves at Playa Venao are perfect to surf for beginners and also for advanced surfers. I miss this place and the people, that bacame friends, but I'm looking forward to visit La Choza and Playa Venao again. Thanks, Chicho!…
it was a great place to relax away from the city vibe, the beach itself is great just high waves, I enjoyed it did a little surfing, they have a lot of places that rent surfboards, I had a good time with the family, but if you have young kids and don't know how to swim this is not a very good spot to visit.
The moment we arrived the place Pan the housekeeper waited for us and showed us the place with a big smile. We stayed at the La Choza for over a week and really had a good time.... highly recommended.
