I stayed here for a personal retreat and to explore Dubuque. This bed and breakfast was incredibly charming with the decor of the rooms consistent with the age and style of the house. I found so many items within the house to look at and reflect back on the way people lived in the past. Sitting on the porch and seeing the city of Dubuque and the Mississippi River all out before me was a breathtaking view. The breakfast was delicious and the table setting beautiful. The host was very accommodating and friendly and I enjoyed hearing about the history of the house and his journey in making it into this beautiful place. I highly recommend the Hancock House.
This is a wonderful place to stay while visiting Dubuque. I grew up in the town, and have a great affection for it; my high school girlfriend and I used to walk these bluffside streets to look at these great old homes. The Hancock House offers restful, welcoming, and historically intriguing accommodation, including very good breakfasts--and plenty of distracting little chocolates, coffee and tea available. The wrap-around porch and the grounds, as many other travelers comment, invite views of the city of the river beyond. Simon, the Innkeeper, welcomed us warmly and shares his knowledge of the house (which he knows down to the plaster and lathe!) and of the area. I definitely plan to stay here again, and heartily recommend the Hancock House.
As we drove up the steep and winding streets, we almost felt like we were in San Francisco. We stayed one night at the Hancock House Bed and Breakfast, and had a very pleasant room, good bed and a quiet location. We also enjoyed the public areas of the beautiful old house, as well as the fantastic view of Dubuque from high above. The breakfast table seated sixteen of us, and we had interesting visits with several other guests. Simon, our host, shared lots of great information about the house and its history, and recommended attractions in Dubuque. We would love to return and stay here again. It's a wonderful place!
We spent the weekend at The Hancock House for our anniversary weekend. The house is absolutely beautiful. The host was wonderful and knowledgeable regarding the history of the house and Dubuque. He also gave out great recommendations for paces to see or where to go eat! I highly recommend booking a stay here!
Most beautiful place in Dubuque! Immaculately kept, lovingly restored historic building with perfect period pieces. All the touches were just perfect. The owner is so generous with his time and knowledge. The HUGE jacuzzi tubs were amazing. The most perfect stay!
