We were a group of photography friends who spent a delightful morning at Babylonstoren. The new scented room has beautiful roses & the smell in there is just wow. The trees arefull of summer fruit at the moment. The bonsai exhibition was quite interesting. We spent a wonderful relaxing time at the restaurant at the green house.

The gardens are beatiful, well worth walking around in. The spa has a lovely pool and the neck, shoulder, back massage was really good. Lunch at the restaurant next to the spa is very much recommended.

...but trying to find you was a nightmare! The gardens are large and well-spaced out, but without a map or clear signage trying to find anything or anyone is rather a problem. The parking is pretty chaotic, the layout of the shop and main (evening) restaurant not dissimilar, and the walk to the glass house cafe for lunch is long...

What a great place to come for lunch in the greenhouse. Amiable staff serving, very tasty food.Bit of a wait to get a table, but there were a lot of people. Then the gardens are a delight to wander around afterwards to work off your lunch. What an amazing variety of plants grown here.

Hi Abigail How wonderful to hear you enjoyed every bit of your visit! Babel has a unique new style of menu, which focuses on fresh produce from the garden and the region. Like so much else at Babylonstoren, a meal at Babel promises to be both an adventure and a rediscovery of the honest essence of things. Farm greetings, Lize...

We went to try the MCC on offer. We were wow'd.....not by the product, but rather by the arrogance of charging French Champagne prices on their FIRST attempt at an MCC...... and it was really ordinary. We did not eat, as we found the offerings just as arrogantly expensive.

Hi All Our family stayed at the resort for 2 nights. The staff were incredible and could not do more than what they did. They have an amazing property with gorgeous gardens and vineyards. As we were staying at the resort we had an option to eat at their restaurant in the evening. The salads were freshly picked from their...

Hi Mark Your review truly warms up our hearts and brings us much joy! Above all, we’d like visitors to ground themselves again. To enjoy the mountains all around as much as we do, pick their own healthy fruit and veg, play pétanque, swim in the farm dam, enjoy an hour in the spa, eat a simple fresh dish at...

Spent 5 days here over Christmas, and was initially overcome with surprise and appreciation for the wonderful setting at the foothills of the local mountain range, the estate is expansive and breathtaking. One can only describe it as a designer working farm with focus on the visual arts through botanical and historical architecture. Ten points for the visual, including interior...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Just 60 kms from Cape Town in the Groot Drakenstein Valley, Babylonstoren - named after the small hill on the farm named by early Dutch settlers in honor of the Bible's Hanging Gardens of Babylon - dates to 1692. The 8-acre formal French kitchen garden at Babylonstoren, inspired by Cape Town's famous 17th-century Company Gardens of the Dutch East India Company, is the central focus of the farm. Today, cultivation of the freshest fruit, herbs and vegetables is paramount and the menu at the farm's restaurant, Babel, is driven by the seasons and what nature dictates. With over 300 fruits, vegetables and herbs to choose from, there is always be something fresh and surprising. Overlooking the vineyards and garden with the historic farm buildings forming a backdrop, Babylonstoren's 13 guest cottages echo Cape Dutch farm buildings. This style was developed in the Cape Colony in the 17th and 18th centuries: the outer walls are whitewashed and decorated with ornate gables and the interiors are pleasantly cool in summer (due to thick walls) and are heated by open hearths in winter. In these cottages we see 18th century-style exteriors boldly yet seamlessly married to the 21st century. Hotel guests are encouraged to pick fruit and veggies from the garden, explore the farm on bicycle, join our daily garden tour, enjoy our signature hammam treatment in the garden spa, or simply unwind with a glass of wine in the hotel's green room. The abundant harvest table breakfast is served from 8h00 - 10h00 in the garden's beautiful greenhouse. Guests can also enjoy dinner on the farm, either in Babel restaurant four nights a week, or in the farm bakery (Sun, Mo & Wed). ... more   less
