So real it feels like home, just better. We stayed for two nights and were just enchanted with the whole package. Such friendly and genuinely friendly staff and gardens only comparable to the hanging gardens of Babylon. Thank you very much, we love you back.

Stopped on entry by friendly staff. Paid R10 to enter and given map of farm. Went to the beautiful glass tasting room. Our hostess Nyleen was very charming and knowledgeable about the wines. The platters which we didn't order but saw.. looked amazing. The had a cellar tour with Kerwin who was outstanding. Gardens were good. Not spectacular but easy...

Came here for lunch, beautiful fresh food straight out of their garden. Very friendly helpful staff and the grounds are amazing. There is an entry fee, we paid R10 pp to get in but this money goes to support their School, well worth the £0.60p per person for such a worthy cause. Nice shop too with local produce.

Until today, I have never heard of an entry fee into a wine farm. We wanted to go to Babylonstoren for some breakfast, wine tasting and to purchase some wines, instead we were asked to pay R20 pp entry by an obviously embarrassed security gaurd. Out of principle, I refuse to pay to get into an establishment in order to...

We were recommended to visit Babylonstoren by friends who know South Africa better than we do. They were certainly right - having had a very pleasant walk around the grounds and garden we had the most excellent lunch - beautifully crafted - staff were excellent and wine was exceptional. What a way to while away an afternoon!!

There is a a hotel with a first class restaurant several food shops, wine tasting a green house with a restaurant, a spa. I hope this...

On a day out to the wine farms in the Stellenbosch - Paarl area we decided to call in at Babylonstoren, having heard good reports. It wasn't a good start to have to pay R20 per person entrance fee but we decided nothing venture nothing gained. What do you get for your entrance fee? Not a lot actually - entry...

The service was exemplary! The farm is so lovely and relaxing. There were so many things to do ( garden tours, spa, cellar tour, and croquet), but we got sidetracked by drinking wine in the butterfly room and hanging out in the hot tub for two days. This is a no brained... we will definitely go back and will likely...

We arrived with no booking even though we were told there were no bookings available and I am so pleased we took the chance. Alande and her team found us a wonderful shaded table in the Courtyard (37 degrees!) and we had the most wonderful dining experience! The food is so fresh and so beautifully presented it would be extremely...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Just 60 kms from Cape Town in the Groot Drakenstein Valley, Babylonstoren - named after the small hill on the farm named by early Dutch settlers in honor of the Bible's Hanging Gardens of Babylon - dates to 1692. The 8-acre formal French kitchen garden at Babylonstoren, inspired by Cape Town's famous 17th-century Company Gardens of the Dutch East India Company, is the central focus of the farm. Today, cultivation of the freshest fruit, herbs and vegetables is paramount and the menu at the farm's restaurant, Babel, is driven by the seasons and what nature dictates. With over 300 fruits, vegetables and herbs to choose from, there is always be something fresh and surprising. Overlooking the vineyards and garden with the historic farm buildings forming a backdrop, Babylonstoren's 13 guest cottages echo Cape Dutch farm buildings. This style was developed in the Cape Colony in the 17th and 18th centuries: the outer walls are whitewashed and decorated with ornate gables and the interiors are pleasantly cool in summer (due to thick walls) and are heated by open hearths in winter. In these cottages we see 18th century-style exteriors boldly yet seamlessly married to the 21st century. Hotel guests are encouraged to pick fruit and veggies from the garden, explore the farm on bicycle, join our daily garden tour, enjoy our signature hammam treatment in the garden spa, or simply unwind with a glass of wine in the hotel's green room. The abundant harvest table breakfast is served from 8h00 - 10h00 in the garden's beautiful greenhouse. Guests can also enjoy dinner on the farm, either in Babel restaurant four nights a week, or in the farm bakery (Sun, Mo & Wed). ... more   less
