The Marriot Courtyard in Glenview is NOT the place anyone should stay at. Upon check in the staff was rude and treated me like an idiot for checking in at 9 am. I explained to the staff that I had booked the room for and paid the previous day (Friday 6/10) in order to ensure that we would be able to enter the room once our plane landed on 6/11. Once the staff member pulled up my reservation and finally listened to me she said “you’re already checked in so you just need a key?” In a rather rude tone to which I replied “I’m unsure of your process but yes just give me my room key so I can go”. I confirmed with the worker that we had a crib for my son to sleep in in the room due to us all immediately needing a nap, she confirmed that it was there and she saw the notes on my account asking for one. Upon entering our room my fiancé and I saw it was in disrepair, it was a “renovated “ hotel, yet the baseboards in our room where not straight they where warped from what we assumed to be water damage, along with a large crack/ hole in our bedroom wall. Under the two air conditioning units was about a 3 in high gap that ran the whole length of the unit filled with spider webs and every other guests dirt and grime. I found the crib that was supposed to be in my room was not there so I called the front desk and told the worker there was no crib and I need one for my 2 year old to nap, she said one would be there immediately. The ottoman had stains on it along with the pull out couch. I searched the room for sheets for the pullout couch since that is where my 2 daughters would be sleeping. There was none. I called the front desk where the once again rude woman told me to “look in the drawers” I informed her I already did in fact and there was nothing but a cheap old fleece blanket. The woman came down with some bedding and asked if the crib had made it yet and I informed her it had not, about 10 minutes later it argued at my door (at this point this is an hour past check in when I first confirmed it was in my room. I go to get my kids settled in bed for a nap to find they brought only flat sheets as bedding no fitted sheets for theirs cheep pull out couch, so I did my best to get it to stay on the bed my children where sleeping on. That night my children end up sleeping at their grandmas and it was only my fiancé and I in our room. In one night I encountered around 5 spiders in my room, but brushed it off despite my fear of spiders. The next night our children where back at our hotel. The following morning which was the morning of Monday 5/13 I woke up to about 6 more spiders around the room. I couldn’t handle that amount of bugs and went to the front desk asking to move rooms. The girl working that day informed me they where fully booked but could move me the next night and I agreed. Upon going back to my room my children had woken up and my 6 year old had a strange mark on her face I assumed from sleeping wrong. 30-45 minutes later my 6 year old was full on covered in hives and bite marks. I immediately took her to the front desk to demand another room since my child was covered in bites. The general manager felt it appropriate to tell me he himself had a “stress rash” at one point and show me pictures of his own body covered in a rash and completely dismissed my daughters rash by offering her a snack and one tiny packet of hydrocortisone cream. He said they couldn’t move us due to being a fully booked hotel. I was furious and told them I would be finding another hotel to stay at. My fiancé was upset with this answer from the manager and went back to the front desk to try and find a solution, the only solution was to move from our one bedroom king suite to a double bed studio which would not fit our children. The mama her had their maintenance man come in our room to “look it over” the man showed up with a flashlight and did not even look at the flying bug I pointed out to him, he ignored everything I said. I pointed him to the hole in the wall and he said it was from previous guests. I told him the wall was crumbling and soft there and touched it with my foot to show him. The wall immediately opened up to a bigger hole filled with spider webs. The maintenance man left and all his visit was, was a waste of time to try and “save face“ for the hotel. The manager did not offer to find us another Marriott to stay at or help in any way the front desk agent who was working was more helpful than her manager and tried to find us solutions however staying at that hotel any longer was not a solution. I am mediately booked a room at the Marriott five minutes away from where we were staying. However due to the $1200 hold on my credit card I was unable to pay for the new hotel that I needed to go to despite having the funds, but I would need to wait for my refund. The Courtyard Marriott told us that they were unable to help and that there was nothing that they could do in order to get us a new room without me having to immediately come up with $1600 to transfer to the new hotel. I ended up borrowing money from a family member because there is no way in hell that I was staying in that hotel any longer with my children. Upon check out the hotel did us a “favor” by only charging us $400 for the three nights of our stay. We go to our new hotel and explain the situation and I show them my daughter who is covered in hives and very obvious bite marks and they asked me why the previous hotel did not walk me to their hotel as a courtesy for all of this inconvenience. I informed the Renaissance by Marriott that that was not an option that we were given and that the previous manager told us that there is nothing he could do. The manager at the Courtyard Marriott did tell us that all of our complaints and refunds needed to go through corporate so once we got checked in at our new hotel and settled I did call corporate to raise this issue where then they informed me that this need to be taken care of by the manager of the hotel that the event happened at so I got to play the runaround game. Corporate did tell me that the hotel would launch a investigation and then they would have a third-party come in and do a bug inspection upon the room and that it would be a neutral party when I finally called and talked to the manager of the courtyard Marriott he informed me that they were going to have their pest control people that have a contract with them look over the room. To me that does not seem like a third-party that is somebody that has a contract and get to work from you and I feel that it is inappropriate and that they should’ve hired an outside bug expert not somebody that relies on their income. At the end of the call the manager accuses me of “kicking” a hole in the wall in front of his worker. I immediately told him that was a lie and I nearly touched it with my foot to show it was soft and crumbling. It is now Saturday, June 18 I have not heard anything back from the manager at the courtyard Marriott I have attempted to call him but he is not working on the weekends. I was told that the bug inspection was supposed to be happening either Wednesday or Thursday and I find it very convenient that nothing has been brought up to me afterwards. I think it’s ridiculous that I had to move to a much more expensive hotel, that I had to pay for the hotel where my daughter was a bit all over by Bug‘s and I just want a refund of the stay at the courtyard Marriott and I just want a discount for this much more pricier hotel that I’m now staying at.…
Front Desk and Housekeeping teams went above and beyond - especially Desiree at the desk. Kind and Professional - everything a Courtyard Marriott should be - absolutely returning and bringing colleagues along.
Room was clean, however as soon as I put my bags down and go into the bathroom there was a huge spider. No big deal, I killed it and went on with my day. However later that evening there was another bug crawling on the wall...ok, so then I kill that one. The next day while I'm getting ready for bed, I go to use the restroom and low and behold here comes another damn bug crawling from under the toilet. I call the front desk at this point and say someone needs to come in here and do something about the bugs in this place. I was told to wait 20 minutes! Are you kidding me?!? I'm paying for this room and since I've arrived I basically had to be an exterminator and you want me to wait 20 minutes! So she sends a security guard to the room and he kills the bug. After calming myself down I decide a hot shower will relax me. When I went to grab my towel 2 more damn spiders come crawling out the towel! WTF kind of place is this?? I packed my bags, checked out early and got the hell out of there. I will NEVER stay at this hotel or any Courtyard and or Marriot hotel ever again in my life!…
I found it strange that this hotel had no recent reviews on Tripadvisor. I got a decent rate for this brand in the area on a third-party site. Chicgao area hotel prices were pretty high for the night I needed , even out in the suburbs. This location was close to many restaurants and amenities, including some within walking distance. My room was clean, including the upholstered furniture and the mattress and bedding appeared fairly new, as did the towels. I liked having a balcony and being able to leave the balcony door open, even though my view was a busy intersection. Inside rooms face the nicely landscaped courtyard. The pool area was also clean and the water was a nice temperature. My only complaint is that this chain seems to never have free coffee in the lobby. I realize they want the onsite cafe serving Starbucks to be profitable, but most folks patronizing that place probably get fancy coffee drinks rather than regular coffee. Fortunately, there is a Dunkin across the street. I would stay here again when visiting the area.…
This is a very comfortable hotel if you need to stay in this area. The room is a nice size, good shower, couch and TV. The staff is extremely nice at the front desk. I was dissapointed that the indoor pool was closed due to covid and was not given an email notification about this change. This was the only reason that I chose to stay here during my visit. The staff said that I should have checked to see what they closed down at the hotel. I disagree.
This hotel provides an extremely friendly approach to all their customers. It’s a really pleasure every time we come to this hotel. Everybody is very professional and helpful. Definitely we will come back to this hotel. Thank you Tina with an S for the excellent service during breakfast.
I have been staying at the Courtyard Glenview frequently. This is a terrific hotel to stay at and have been very satisfied with all of my experiences there. Louisa is always very helpful and is wonderful to talk with. Tina at the Bistro is great. She is always a good start to my day. Always positive and helpful. Thank you Tina.
Tina S in the hotel Starbucks made my day, she was so helpful, pleasant, and has a beautiful smile. Next time we are in town, I will be looking for her, she is wonderful! She went above and beyond our expectations
Rooms are clean, typical Courtyard standards. Breakfast is good and Tina S is a wonderful Barista! Breakfast items are good and served hot. Front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating. Check in and out is a breeze.
This is my go-to choice when i visit the Northbrook/Glenview area. The people, especially Tina in the Bistro, never fail to great me like a friend. I am amazed that even though there may be months in between my visits the front desk folks recognize me on sight and know my name. The hotel is being renovated so i only expect it to get better!
