While not a perfect hotel, I enjoyed my stay at The Herrington. I splurged on a fireplace riverview room and loved the large bathroom, balcony over the river and cozy fireplace. The service here was also excellent and I felt well taken care of by front desk staff, bellman, and room service. I hope they are able to make some upgrades. The carpet and curtains both seemed dirty and well-worn and it brought down the level of beauty of this great location. Also the jacuzzi didn't seem like it had been cleaned thoroughly and I didn't feel comfortable bathing in the water after running the jets for a few minutes.

In spite of all that, this hotel was very comfortable. The beds were grand and luxurious. The location is perfect for walking to downtown Geneva or strolling along the river.

When my last work day got extended, they offered me a late checkout of 3 p.m. for a small additinal fee, which was very helpful. When I'm in town again, this hotel will definitely be my top pick.

This is a true boutique hotel. Sitting on the Fox River and styled like a Tuscan farm house this hotel checks all the boxes. Walking in you're struck by the elegance of the lobby. Subdued lighting enhances the effect of dark wood and colorful furnishings. The front desk is very friendly and let us check in two hours early. The rooms are tasteful and spacious. All include gas fireplaces and whirlpool tubs. Balconies are also large and offer river views. Complimentary breakfast is served each morning in the lobby under the staircase and it's just not donuts and cereal. Fine cheeses and salamis join fruit slices and delicious muffins to delight early morning taste buds. A full bar and a small but gourmet restaurant are in the house. Rooms are super clean and cooled to goose bump status. Expect a great nights sleep as the beds are comfy as hell. Pillowtop mattresses and extra thick pillows are provided. The room is quiet as a tomb, no talking neighbors or stomping feet here. A spa is available but I did not partake. Maybe next time as I will be back.

Our stay was perfect! We had early in the day spa treatments that were completed by 1:45. Being that check in is at 4pm I had explained that we were interested in early check in after our treatments and late check out. The accommodated our request and we seamlessly went from the Spa to our room. Our spa treatments were divine and the Serenity Room where we relaxed afterward was so adorably furnished and so cozy comfy. We stayed in the Creamery Room that had a balcony facing the River. It was pleasant enough outside to be able to sit out and enjoy some beers and snacks. Our room was beautiful and so very clean.
We had dinner in the Atwater that evening and had excellent service and our dinners were nothing short of superb!! All staff was very friendly and professional at every aspect of our stay.
We ordered room service breakfast that was said to be delivered in 30 minutes. After an hour I called room service and Brenda was very apologetic and they would send it up within 5 minutes. When the gentleman came to the door he brought in our breakfast and apologized profusely saying that is not their standard and that our breakfast was on the Herrington. We were very grateful at their hospitality. Our omelettes and hash browns were amazing and beautifully plated.
I cannot wait to return. The hotel has an old world feel to it and has beautiful limestone floors. The dining room and loony area are so welcoming and comfortable. I just cannot say enough about how we loved our stay.
The only negative that I can think of, is one that I also had read previous to our stay. The pillows are too fluffy big and do not compress well for sleeping. The next time I would pack my own.
I would highly recommend this beautiful well appointed Inn.

Boutique hotel that is very pretty, but the room I stayed in seemed to be cheaply constructed, with no soundproofing. The best part about it was the fireplace and outdoor patio/balcony facing the Fox River; I loved hearing the geese outside. I paid $220 to stay one night and got no sleep due to upstairs neighbors I could hear as clearly as if they were in the room with me, including when they ran their bath/whirlpool starting around 10 p.m. (for whatever reason, that's when they wanted their bath) for about four hours, turning it on and off nonstop, as well as their heavy footsteps clomping above me for the rest of the night. The soundproofing is not enough between rooms upstairs that have whirlpools and the ones immediately under them; it sounded like someone was running a bath right above my bed for hours; the pipes and sounds were that loud. There was also water damage on the ceiling of the bathroom; not sure if from previous guests or the ones that kept me up. The hotel employees were very nice about the situation when I filled them in the next morning, and I think it's important to support local hotels that are trying to survive during the pandemic, but the total lack of soundproofing in my room and lack of sleep was stressful. I recommend requesting a top-floor room or suite when staying here.

This converted creamery on the Fox River was a tremendous find for our three-day getaway. Located in downtown Geneva, a city with a great deal of charm and fantastic food and shops, we received first class service from the moment we set foot on the property. After being greeted by an extremely helpful young woman who checked us in, every member of the staff we interacted with proved to be friendly and dedicated.
We had a first floor room that opened out to a little patio with an outside table and chairs. The bed was a king-size four-poster, a gas fireplace, and plenty of room to stretch out. The bathroom was nice and big with a makeup table and mirror, and a Jacuzzi. Comfy bathrobes and slippers were a nice perk as well.
A nice touch every evening was the delivery of milk (in glass bottles) and cookies to our room. We can’t say enough about the Herrington or Geneva.

My husband booked a 'Couples Getaway' package approximately a week before we came to stay on Saturday. He called on the day before because he realized he had not heard anything from the hotel about our spa appointments, and didn't receive any email confirmation of the room reservation when he booked (or the need to book spa appointments). Upon calling, he found out there were no spa appointments booked for us. He was surprised and we were disappointed as this is why he choose Herrington over other hotels. We also thought it was weird that he was able to book this offering at all if there were not appointments available. How is this available as a package option?

I went back through the reservation process today out of curiosity and see nothing that prompts, alerts or places me on the spa website. The only place I see 'Please call the Spa to ensure their availability' is if I click on the information icon next to the couples getaway package as part of the description - it is not in bold or a different color so no wonder he missed it. Also a few hours had passed and I have not received any room confirmation or package email that even states "Go Call the Spa now!". How are you offering something you can't fully deliver on by prompting people better? It makes no sense to me and I can't seem to let it go because it was booked and I was so looking forward to it.

This whole thing could have been avoided by not offering this package or by a better website user experience or a confirmation email. We couldn't cancel our stay since it was the day before - and our stay could have been perfect if they found another way to fit us in to their spa, or a local spa, or offered us complimentary champagne or spa products. Total fail in customer service.

Very bad service
The bed is not comfortable
Big problem with the parking.
The breakfast starts daily at 7am. The actual breakfast did not start until 7:45 am.
The manager Stephanie is incredibly RUDE. Amanda was very kind and amazing.
The tub is beautiful but dangerous to get and out of. Be careful. The GFI in the bathroom is very old and be replaced. This is only a brief list of all the issues we found. The owner needs to take better care of the hotel for both the guests and the personnel. We will never stay here again. And recommend no one else does either until improvements of the process and the communication of the services change.

This hotel is worth $95 maximum per night.
Best western is much better and better service by far.

Tired room, shower wouldn’t turn off. Bath fittings fell off. Complimentary breakfast was minimal at best. Staff focussed on the paid for dinning room so cutlery ran out etc. Really disappointing for the money!
Nice location on the river so great views…

My wife and I finally escaped Chicago for a weekend in Geneva, Illinois. My wife usually goes to Geneva at Christmas time with her two friends for the Christmas House Walk that was cancelled this year, because of you know why.

We stopped at Binny's on the way there to buy beverages for our room. I bought a gin I never heard of called Fifty Pounds and she bought a small bottle of Grand Marnier. Being a Bombay Sapphire aficionado, the Fifty Pounds Gin was very good, and it came with a nice glass for a reasonable price.

There is a lot to tell about this trip, and all was very good except for the coffee in the room and the coffee at breakfast. If you go, bring your own Keurig Coffee.

Our room was right on the Fox River and was wonderful. Sipping our gin and Grand Marnier overlooking the Fox River was delightful. Truly a nice getaway!

The food was good. I had a blue-purple gin called Empress, which was very good, and a red wine with dinner each night.

Of course, she did her shopping and I was a very patient husband. There is a new store that just opened on State Street full of memorabilia, worth a look.

As I said, the trip was very nice, just what we needed for a weekend getaway.

We got home on Sunday, just to watch the Bears lose. Otherwise, a very enjoyable trip.

The Herrington Inn was a perfect and beautiful venue for a family Bridal Shower I hosted. The room is beautiful! The banquet room overlooks the Fox River, having patio doors which open to a lovely terrace and the river. The views from the many windows share views of stunning midwest beauty in one of Illinois’ most picturesque small towns, Geneva, Illinois. The food we had was also delicious— salad with artisan greens, fresh fruit and gourmet dressing; moist (not at all dry) chicken with mozzarella cheese and cherry tomatoes; vegetables cooked to perfection and a lovely array of desserts. I have hosted many business banquets in Chicago and other cities, and am used to expecting “banquet meals”— this meal was not that! The luncheon was as delicious as a custom “menus- ordered dinner” in a fine restaurant. Virtually everyone in this large group (approx 30) complimented the food - it was delicious and creative.
And then I must also complement the service— what a professional, polite, smiling, service oriented group of people! I had never even been to this venue before— and they treated me like I owned the place! There were several people “working” this event— as a result no guest “waited” for anything— coffee service, special drinks, wrapping “take home bags”— all were quickly accommodated. Every detail regarding the planning for this event was handled with a smile. Because I do not live near this venue, I actually only dealt with the catering event manager (Deanne), by phone— regardless, she delivered a perfectly executed, beautiful event— I HIGHLY recommend this venue for any business meeting, a family celebration, or any gathering.

Yes, there is an elevator. However there are many rooms on the first floor. The parking lot has an easy entrance through the spa into the halls that lead to the lobby. Call the hotel direct with your questions. They are very helpful.
