We really loved this simple, peaceful little resort. The situation is perfect with two beautiful white sand beaches and a lagoon to choose from, a variety of corals and fish to explore and lots of activities like snorkeling, kite boarding, stand up paddle boarding, cycling, diving and whale watching. There is even an uninhabited island to explore, or a cultural...

My wife and I needed some sun and some serious chill time after a tough year and a tough winter. A friend recommended Matafonua so we thought we would give it a shot. Brilliant decision. Matafonua is down to earth, very very beautiful and hosted by Nina and Darren who have to be two of the worlds nicest people. Accommodations...

We spent 5 nights at Matafonua with our 10 year old son and we were totally spoiled with choice of activities like incredible whale swimming, amazing snorkeling right off the beach, kayaking, exploring nearby islands, kite-surfing and most importantly lazing around with a book in paradise. We were also spoiled by the wonderful staff and food. Thank you Darren, Nina,...

We have just returned from a week at Matafonua and my only regret is that we didn't book for longer. Darren and Nina are wonderful hosts who look after you like family. The location is amazing as they are right at the end of the island and have beach on 3 sides so you can always find a sheltered spot....

Such a great place to stay. From the time you are picked up to the time we were dropped back at the airport we had a fantastic time. Super friendly staff and host and made us so welcome. Couldn't get a better location right on the beach and only 10 fales so its not like you are tripping over people....

We travelled as a group of 7 long-time friends, first to Vava'u and then to Ha'apai for a week. Our transport from the airport was two trucks with most of our group choosing to sit on the back with the luggage. The road crosses the runway so one truck had to wait for the plane to take off before heading...

We stayed at Matafonua Lodge last year (2015) for eight days, and before we left we booked to stay again this year (2016) for 10 days. The Lodge has such a relaxed atmosphere, an amazing location, fantastic food and staff, and the experiences on the water are second to none! Amazing encounters with humpback whales and their calves with passionate,...
