Nestled in the heart of the city, The Allegro Royal Sonesta Hotel Chicago Loop garners high marks for its central location, making it a prime spot for those looking to explore the local attractions and amenities. The hotel's Art Deco elegance and historical charm captivate guests, offering a unique atmosphere that stands out from more modern establishments. While the rooms are celebrated for their cleanliness and stylish decor, a few guests note they can be on the smaller, slightly dated side. Overall, the attentive service and convenient amenities contribute to the hotel's reputation for providing good value, even though some have mentioned additional fees.

This will become my go-to hotel for work trips to Chicago. It is in a great location in the Loop, has very welcoming staff, and nice little rooms. Yes the rooms are a little small but they have everything you need.. The hotel has a great fitness center, a beautiful lobby, and a morning coffee bar. I highly recommend!

In the Loop, close to Clarke and Lake El, this hotel is central. Theatres nearby, a short walk to the art Institute and north towards the Magnificent Mile. I chose it for the convenience of the Ogilvie Transport Centre and the blue line for getting ot the airport at the end of the stay and of course being in the centre of Chicago. It has a good spacious lobby, where free hot drinks are served in the morning and Prosecco or mulled cider fo an hour early evening, sufficient (and beautiful art deco lifts) and reasonably sized rooms. There were some inconveniences: the room with two people, suitcases and warm weather clothing quickly became a little cramped. Very little hanging space and not enough room for suitcases meant we had to work round each other. There were not coffee making facilities which was not compensated by the free hot drinks in the morning. Why not use the acres of space in the room where the ice makers are to accommodate floor level basic coffee and tea making? there is lot of room given over to selling snacks and drinks in the room instead of providing some basic comforts that are everyday items in the rest of the world and becoming very common in the US. Reception services were good, the room cleaning excellent and the overall style was pleasant. Furniture a bit bulky for the size of the room - why not put the mirror on the wall and give us more space to move around the room? Would I stay here again - if the price is right and it was not a long stay. This is more geared ot the one night stay than the long weekend but still pretty good overall.

Thanks for staying with us and for taking the time to provide the nice feedback about our beautiful lobby, fun prosecco hour, and convenient location! Our building has some unique sizing and layouts, due to it being from the 1920's, but we have many options available! We also offer coffee makers and tea kettles upon request. Please feel free to reach out directly for any future bookings and I will be sure to provide you with a great room that is based on your preferences! Svetlana Raskin Guest Experience Manager

Our room was on the small side with furnishings that are either weird or artsy depending on your point of view. In addition to the very comfortable bed our room had a credenza containing the refrigerator/minibar and safe, a desk and a couple of small pouffes for seating. A small table and comfy chair would have been a nice touch but there wasn't space.

As others have noted, the walls are rather thin, so keep it down!

Like the bedroom, the bathroom was also compact. Disappointingly in this day and age, it still had a tub rather than a walk-in shower.
Everything was clean and worked, so no complaints there. I was a little surprised by the lack of USB outlets. I also didn't care for the main room light which was as charmless as an old fluorescent tube.

Kimptons pride themselves on a friendly vibe, and the Allegro didn't disappoint. Here the wine hour that sister hotels have is replaced by a prosecco hour. And for those who may not want prosecco there was a mulled cider alternative.

Location is a big feature of this hotel. It's right in the theater district, about three blocks south of the river and five or six west of Michigan Ave. (I'll confess I didn't actually count.) There are restaurants all around, and especially just across the river in the River North neighborhood.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay but I don't think the Allegro is quite as good as the nearby Kimptons. That's mostly down to the small room and thin walls although the furnishings and equipment were just a little sub-par too. Would I stay here again? Maybe.

My sister & I just spent a weekend in Chicago, we stayed at the Allegro! The location is seriously great, you can walk to a lot of things or take a cab/uber & it won’t cost you much! The hotel is clean & very stylish. We had zero complaints about our room or the hotel at all. The parking at the hotel is pretty expensive so we ended up just parking my car in the garage across the street (way cheaper) & it turned out perfect. Our next visit we are booking here again!

The staff is great & very friendly. Starbucks is also right next door. Book this place if you’re considering it, you won’t regret it!

I have such positive memories of the Hotel Allegro and remember I used to visit here numerous times with my cat when I had moved away from Chicago. I just completed a fun "staycation" getaway as a treat this Saturday. The minute I walked in Chuck the valet and doorman greeted me warmly and he actually recognized me from years ago. The Allegro has been part of the Kimpton boutique brand for many years and it has gone through major architectural changes throughout the years becoming an incredible art deco showpiece in the city of Chicago. I remember visiting this particular hotel and enjoying the Christmas 🎄 market in the Daley center just blocks away. Before the pandemic hit there was a fun hot chocolate hour in the morning and early afternoon and it was always so much fun to gather in their gorgeous marble lobby for light snacks and hot chocolates. Part of the fun was having the opportunity to meet the other guests at the hotel and enjoying the social aspects of staying here.
When I checked in yesterday Ben immediately recognized that I had been a long-term member of Kimpton and he presented me with light snacks and a bottle water. I was also upgraded from a standard room to a stunning two room suite with a cozy and elegant living room and an elegant bedroom with a king sized bed and one person jacuzzi tub.
It was so nice to recognize familiar faces and even Shikar was here this morning greeting people at the door before I checked out.
The Allegro also has two person jacuzzi suites so I highly recommend anyone take advantage of these upgraded rooms and lavish themselves as a decadent self treat.
Everything here during my stay was pristine and well organized. I even had the opportunity to chat with the director of housekeeping (Michael) who helped me out with my welcome amenity points.
There is also a friendly Starbucks right next door so you can grab a latte during your stay.
I wish the Allegro good karma and continued success and I definitely look forward to returning here soon!
I decided to share some photos 📷 of my room here in this review so you can get an idea of how welcoming and spacious the suites are.
I do bring some blankets and scarves from my home just to add a bit of color; but if you study these photos you can see how large the living room is.
I also loved how firm the mattress was and I absolutely appreciated the two extra pillows the hotel provided me in the closet.
The Allegro is a charmer. If you love and appreciate architectural landmarks you will definitely love the vibes here.

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. I save only the staff. Hetal Jain was excellent. She was very friendly and kind. She went extra mile to help answering my questions/needs and she also showed me some rooms to help me pick a room that was not too noise as I'm a very light sleeper and some rooms are facing to the the loop railway.

The hotel is very old, rooms didn't have a nice smell. They don't provide housekeeping - only after 3 nights. The shower gel in my bathroom was almost empty when I checked in and they didn't fill out even if requested. They don't provide basic stuff like shower caps, kettle or coffee/tea in the room.

They also have hidden fees $28 per day called destination fees that includes wifi and 2 bottles of water in the room. Things that in most of hotels are complimentary.

A huge THANK YOU to Monica at the front desk. She was professional, positive, helpful and pleasant. I don't recall the names of other fantastic front desk staff, nor do I recall the name of one front desk staff who was negative and unhelpful.

There are many things to like about the hotel. Excellent location, comfortable bed, lobby decor and bar. The room was on the small side, but that's to be expected in an older, large city hotel. One night the neighbors were very noisy until 1 am. The walls are thin. But we stayed for 4 nights and all other nights were quiet. For these reasons I would consider returning

One huge negative that will definitely keep me from recommending until the policy is changed is the $28/night mandatory fee. The hotel is clear about the fee. It covers things that should be included such as 2 bottles of water PER STAY, not night, wifi, fitness center, coffee and tea in lobby. Since it's a mandatory fee, why not add it to the room cost? I can't opt out of I don't drink the coffee, tea, water, use my own data or skip the fitness center. Since it's a per day fee, why can't I get the bottled water per day? Housekeeping is only one per 3-nights, unless you request it. These Covid rules are no longer necessary and only adding to the hotels profits and not the guests' needs and must stop. Just charge me one price, give me housekeeping and charge me extra for any amenities I do choose to use. The price and fee model of this hotel is a reason I won't return

We hosted about 25 rooms for our NYE wedding this past week and working with the whole Allegro team was SO easy. Zero complaints. Leading up to the event they were always accommodating, helpful, and responsive. We needed a few things while we were staying there at the last minute and everyone was so easy to work with and helped make our experience great.
The amenities are amazing, the area is great, and that lobby cannot be beat. It's always clean, comfortable, and affordable. My absolute favorite. Who doesn't love a free prosecco happy hour!?

My husband and I travel regularly to Chicago because we have season tickets for evening performances at Lyric Opera each year. We have tried many area hotels over the years, many of which we like. However, the best- located hotel in our opinion is the Sonesta Allegro Hotel. It is just under four blocks between the Civic Opera House and the Allegro entrance, and the walking route is safe and well-maintained. Often other opera fans are walking the same route, which makes it even more safe and even convivial! We never need a cab when we stay at the Allegro regardless of the time of day of the performance. This would be so for many attending plays at Chicago’s main theaters also— the distances are short, safe, and well-maintained between the theaters and the Allegro.
Since the end of the pandemic, we have appreciated the cleanliness and good maintenance of this lovely historic building and the kindness and efficiency of the front desk staff. They make us feel welcome and they are without exception helpful in response to special requests or with information we may need. Hetal and her colleagues at the front desk always make sure our room is ready when we arrive even though we are a bit early into town, due to public transportation schedules.

Finally we wanted to make sure that readers know the 312 Restaurant (Italian), in the same building as Allegro, is once again open after a long closure during and after the pandemic. It is under separate management from the Allegro, but there is a discount available from Allegro for hotel guests using 312. Dinner is available early enough for theater or opera patrons who are hotel guests to eat prior to evening performances. One can enter Restaurant 312 from the Allegro without going outdoors. Allegro’ s front desk can explain the discount; current menus are available at the front desk of Allegro.

For all these reasons, we recommend Sonesta Hotel Allegro highly and without reservation.

Stayed for a night to catch a show at the theater next door. Cozy and fun rooms had a great 1920s vibe going on with ultra comfy beds and the old wooden window frames on the other side of the modern glass. Had great staff, fast checkin/out, can’t wait to go back!
