This hotel is in a unique location in the mist the Gold Coast neighborhood. Many great place for food, shopping and entertainment are within a mile walk. The Old Town neighborhood is also nearby. It is a charming small hotel. It is obviously an older building but well kept and clean. Because of Covid precautions the bar and restaruant were closed taking away from what I would imagine would be a more lively vibe in the lobby. We really enjoyed just walking around the neigborhood and enjoyed food at a cafe. It was very affordable for the area. That said, there is an "urban tax" of $20 addd to your room rate. We felt we bascially paid $20 for 2 waters since most of the other services listed to justify this cost we either didn't use or were unavailable due to the pandemic. It was still a great deal, just be aware of the tax not included in the quote room rate. Also, the room was very small. Basically a king bed with a couple feet around it and a small bathroom. If you like to spread out I'd recommend an upgraded room or maybe this isn't the hotel for you. This is a dog friendly hotel, which is great, unless your neighbors have a dog that howls for hours on end. We love dogs, but we love to sleep too. Our room needed a some ceiling repairs in the bathroom (peeling paint and visible patch work). The above mentioned still does not deter us from looking forward to staying at the Claridge again. It was overall a charming hotel in a great neighborhood at an affordable rate.

I highly recommend the hotel provide iron with an ironing board as the steamer was not efficient. I also recommend the hotel install sheer curtains to enjoy the natural sunlight as there is only a black out shade. Your close neighbors will see into your room without the shade.

Hi CJH7914, Thank you so much for this feedback! We have irons and ironing boards as request items for those that prefer them. We found that most guests prefer the steamers, but want to have something for everyone! (I prefer an iron and ironing board myself.) We will take into account the comment about the curtains for the next room redesign, but will also look into a temporary solution for that, as well. Thank you again for staying with us!

The Claridge House Chicago is a gem. We worked with the Sales Department to organize a block of rooms for a Bridal Shower. They were always available to answer questions, work with us and our guests and we could not have had a better experience. All our guests felt well taken care of. The Front desk was super helpful suggesting places for dinner and calling cabs for the grandmothers. The rooms were clean, the beds, bedding, and pillows comfortable, the temperature of the rooms controllable with a continuous fan option to provide some nice white noise. There were several common rooms to gather in the Lobby and an alcove in the stairwell to the 2nd floor. The bar in the lobby has a Happy hour from 5-6pm and they had food and coffee - including espresso drinks, from 7AM to 1Pm that was wonderful. Also, there are many great restaurants in walking distance and the neighborhood is quiet and very safe to walk in. Because it is close to Division St, Jewel Osco/CVS are also close by. We will definitely return on our next Chicago trip. Know that one must arrange housekeeping in advance, however, fresh towels were always available at the front desk.

Clean, well located, and easy check-in. We stayed for one night and enjoyed a quiet evening. We were able to walk to the lake, Old Town, and tons of restaurants. I’d definitely come back again. The room is about half the size of a traditional Holiday Day, but you’ll find there’s plenty of space for your luggage, a desk and well cared for bathroom. PRO TIP: Download and use a parking app if you travel here by car and need to park.

After staying at the Claridge House for 6 nights around the 4th of July, I told my wife that she made an excellent selection for our lodging.

For our first vacation travel during the pandemic, we picked Chicago for its being relatively safe and tourist-friendly. We chose the Gold Coast neighborhood because it was very pleasant. Then the Claridge House completed the whole lodging arrangement.

It was a very charming boutique hotel in the form of a modernized old building. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room on the 12th floor was clean and comfortable. The bathroom and other fixtures were all up to modern standards. Although the hotel’s food service was still on hold during our stay, we in fact enjoyed trying 4 restaurants within the block for our meals. Having a fridge also allowed us to picked up food items from the grocery store a block away.

The location of this hotel was extremely convenient for our tourist activities. When we arrived, we took the train from O’Hare Airport to the Clark / Division subway station that was within a block of the hotel. We could hop on the subway everyday to go towards the city or beyond for sightseeing. Closer to the neighborhood, we walked to the skyscraper at 875 N. Michigan Ave for happy hour at the observation deck on the 94th floor. On two of the hot days, a short walk took us to Oak Street Beach for a quick dip in the lake. Lincoln Park was not much farther with respect to walking either.

As I have mentioned that the Gold Coast area was pleasant, there were actually two mornings that we decided to spend time just strolling through the neighborhood. It was fascinating to learn about some of the old houses that were historical architectural gems. In fact, the Claridge House was itself a very outstanding old building.

The first impression of this hotel is very warm and nice. Check in was good. The room was okay. WiFi is horrible. We saw the first silverfish as soon as we got in. The employees were pleasant throughout our stay…until. Check out is at 12 noon. At 8:04 am housekeeping knocked at the door twice, about 4 seconds, and just opened the door. Thank goodness I had the security latch on. WHAT???? I then heard housekeeping knock on the next door and open it. Someone in the room yelled “hey” and we heard housekeeping say “oh I’m sorry”. WHAT??? That is the worst practice that any hotel could ever do. It isn’t known that you can’t walk in on guests because there is an expectation of privacy. HORRIBLE. I called the front desk at 8:09 am about what happened and it made the experience worse. She gave me attitude and said “well they do that because they don’t know if the people checked out”. I said that we weren’t dressed and the people next door yelled at housekeeping. She still gave me attitude as if it was okay. WOW! They will do that to someone who is going to take it to another level and cause legal issues for this hotel. I guess they don’t know that hotel employees can’t just open the door of a hotel room because people might be indisposed at the time. There isn’t a record of who had checked out from the front desk?
I’ll never stay here or recommend this place to anyone.

My husband and I have finally found our perfect resting place when visiting family in Chicago....Claridge House!
This hotel has been a lifesaver during the pandemic. The accommodations are very clean and safe, the staff is following all precautions and the location is ideal. The cherry on the cake is that the rates are extremely reasonable, you will pay much more for similar quality elsewhere in the city. Truly a 5 star!!...We highly recommend!!!

Our room had virtually no window. The window went into the emergency exit and we had no natural light in our room. We asked to change the room, but it never happened and we were there for five miserable nights. We had to pull the blackout blind down because the light in the emergency exit was on all night. The bathroom was very small with only one sink and no space for toiletries. The lighting in the rooms very poor.

Because of COVID19 they did not provide daily housekeeping except on request with 24 hours notice. We requested housekeeping but our room was never cleaned. We ran out of shampoo and the tiny waste baskets were overflowing.

Overall, it was a very unpleasant stay. We won’t be back.

Great hotel! Stayed at Claridge House Chicago for two nights, and loved the modern and sleek look. It was nice to see that the lobby areas were constantly filled with guests and visitors - and the staff were great, always walking to the various lobby seating areas and checking if they could help with or bring anything. The rooms are large, well decorated, and the beds are just outstanding - one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've slept in. Great service, great rooms, and within walking distance of so many restaurants. Would definitely stay here again!

The Claridge is a nice hotel and convenient to many nice eateries and the Red line. We had a king suite as there were 3 of us staying 4 nights. It was spacious and clean and had a small kitchenette with two bathrooms. The towels are lovely and soft, pillows are comfy and bed great. We had booked for 3 people and felt that the bedding should have been set up for 3 and we shouldn't have had to call down for extra pillows and blankets, a glass and coffee cup and water for the third guest- as that should all be noted in the booking details. When we did call it took some time to come, but it did come with a smile. If you have one of these rooms, pack your ear plugs in case you have people in the adjoining room coming home at 2 pm who decide to knock on the door between and call 'housekeeping' repeatedly in the middle of the night and put the TV on loudly, as you will hear them!

The hotel offers a happy hour between 5-6 pm with a white and red wine and some popcorn. It would be nice to have the wine in a glass as opposed to a plastic cup.

There is a young man at the front desk who we encountered and he is exceptionally pleasant. One or two of the female staff are less cheerful and one of the females at the cafe as you enter was horrendous. After a Saturday morning experience there with cardboard containers and paper cups we decided to head next door for our breakfasts. There was also an odd smell when you come in the main door some days

We are fussy and expect a good standard. Apart from the noisy neighbours and minor hiccups, we enjoyed our time at the Clarence. It's quite a classy place.
