The Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk delights guests with its spacious rooms, although some mention they appear dated and have various maintenance issues. Its prime location near major Chicago attractions and convenient access to transportation is highly praised. While the hotel's cleanliness receives positive remarks, the atmosphere is a mix of modern comforts and some odd furnishing choices.
The value proposition is contested by guests who find the hotel expensive, especially with additional fees for amenities which sometimes underperform, such as problematic showers and paid Wi-Fi. Service quality at the hotel varies, with reports of both exceptional and subpar staff interactions.

Detailed Reviews
Enjoyed a wonderful 3-night stay in Chicago over the final weekend of August, and our first ever stay at the Sheraton Grand added a lot to the visit. Even after receiving an electronic key after checking in early via the Bonvoy app, I went to the front desk on arrival and asked for - and received - a (much) higher floor room in the same booking class (Deluxe king lake/river view). I greatly appreciated the reservation desk's extra effort and assistance; Indeed, the corner view from the 27th floor was incredible! This property's comfortable rooms and perfect location are frequently mentioned, and rightfully so. It was great to be able to safely walk to so many downtown attractions, plus fairly quick access to several CTA stations. Room fridge on request was promptly delivered an only $10 extra for the full stay. Full "making up the room" is available only on request with current protocols in place, so bear this in mind. We requested this after the 2nd night and were very pleased. I'd stay here again in an instant!

I was very surprised by the great service at this huge convention type hotel. Everyone was friendly even though it was super busy for New Year’s. The housekeeping staff were also very happy and seemed to enjoy their work.
I did mobile check in but later went downstairs to speak with the Bonvoy desk attendant about late checkout and bonus points. He welcomed me as titanium elite and confirmed our 4PM checkout and recommended RPM Steak as I asked for dinner recommendations. Even though this is a huge hotel, service was efficient and the concierge was particularly helpful with walking directions to Michigan Ave.
We stayed here for one night (Dec 31) in a river front facing room (2911). I requested an upgrade online and the higher floor views were amazing. The midnight fireworks show was phenomenal. I was told many people viewed the fireworks from the club lounge but it was excellent having our own private view in our hotel room.
While the hotel is slightly outdated, I would not hesitate to stay here again. The club lounge is recently updated and while few beverages (no water, juices, sodas) were stocked due to the NYE celebration, we were still happy overall. I believe many families were letting friends and family into the lounge who did not have the key card for it.
The location is also excellent and everything is walking distance, except the CTA line from midway airport was a bit of a walk.

The hotel is in a fantastic location for Chicago. Safe and within walking distance to lots of awesome restaurants, mag mile shopping, Navy Pier and more.
The hotel is beautiful in the lobby and public locations. The hallways walking to the rooms are a little 'dingy' though. Dark hallways with wall paper peeling off, etc. Same for the rooms. The wallpaper is just getting old. Our bathroom seemed newly renovated and the suite (#2055) was spacious enough for our son on the pullout couch and a pack n play for toddler. Awesome views of the Chicago River and Lake Michigan!
My biggest issues were their delay in catching up post-pandemic. The main bar was closed. Shula's closed except bar on Fri and Sat evenings. No room service either. They have a little market near the entrance of the hotel but it closed at 6pm. If every other option for drinks and food are closed in the hotel, why can't they afford to staff it 24 hours per day? If you want a bottle of water or bag of chips, you'll have to leave the hotel. Seemed cheap to me considering the hotel was PACKED for 4th of July weekend.
The staff was extremely friendly and happy to be there. They did seemed overwhelmed across the holiday weekend, but never made us feel it. You could just tell they were busy. Every request I had was quickly responded to (extra towels, garbage pickup, etc).
Overall, A+ for the staff...the hotel just needs to hire more ASAP before they wear out the amazing team they currently have. And find a way to allow customers access to food and drinks at better hours of the day. The Marriott over on Michigan Ave was fully open. All bars and resturants...so it is possible, Sheraton Grand just needs to make it happen.

I like the hotel.
But the aircon blows onto the bed which is annoying and they put money on your credit card on hold so you can not spend that money, even if you have paid for the room upfront.
This makes no sense when you have paid for the room and they are still taking money for the room. They need to have a better way of knowing who has paid and who hasn’t.
Being such a big company very bad management.
Also they charge you for drink that you didn’t have, so suggest checking your bill not putting key into checkout box near reception.

You’ve probably seen the hidden camera investigative reports that revealed that housekeeping often just rinses and wipes down glassware in hotel rooms. I had kind of forgotten and put that out of my mind. However, it came flooding back when I found a coffee mug in my room with a few drops of coffee stains inside and smeared lip prints on the edge. I left it sitting out hoping it would be replaced with a clean one. I came back after my room being cleaned and found the exact same mug on the shelf with the same spots and same smeared lip prints. ICK!
In these days of coronavirus, this is unacceptable! Always wash your hotel glassware yourself people!
Hotel was otherwise ok.

Definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a clean, comfortable, friendly place. The staff was wonderful. We arrived early to Chicago & they were able to accommodate us in a room. We had an amazing city view. You can walk 10-15 min to Navy pier, millennium park and Magnificent mile or uber for a few bucks. The city cancelled St Pats parade & festivities due to Covid-19 but the hotel hosted a small party downstairs that kept us entertained & our son with games without leaving the hotel. I would stay here again.

The Hotel is quite good. Location great, but watch your bill at all times.
They seem to charge you for drinks you don’t have because there system of knowing who is buying the drinks is very poor.
Also they will put money on hold on your credit card every day for a room charge even if you have paid the room in advance.
So you may over spend on your card thinking you have money there and them be charged by your bank while waiting for the money to be refunded by the Hotel.
Which they shouldn’t of touched in the first place.

The Stay was far less than an expected 4 star hotel. Would like to mention the shortcomings and the experience on my stay.
During Covid times no wipes were provided in the room for guest to maintain self cleaning. When requested from reception we were told to pick only one from the box they had. Imagine I travelled with kids and hence expected better service.
Secondly their water pool is not maintained and water had hairs and was dirty as compared to an Hampton Inn pool. I have seen better indoor pools in 2 star hotels. I guess you only pay for scenic view of the pool.
Thirdly in restrooms as I was taking shower i had a view of the top of the vent and it was so dirty that it seems no cleaning has been done to the air ducts on this hotel for years. That gave a shock as to how this hotel maintains a 4 star rating.
Beds were uncomfortable and there were no USB chargers except the alarm clock which had open wiring behind it. I had to adjust the wring to make the alarm working so that I could charge my phone.
The AC thermostat was loose and while setting the temp felt like it will fall from the wall.
This is really old building and not fit for stays for 4 star rating. I will not recommend at all..

Great hotel with great service. Uber/Lyft zone outsize and bus stop right across the street. Exit the rear of the building and you're on the riverwalk. The resort charge can be used with the restaurants so it's not a total gouge. Don't forget to stop by the gift shop to receive your daily gift. I assumed it would be brought to room daily so I missed 2 of the gifts. It can be popcorn, keychains, or a coffee mug like I received. It's older so there is wear and tear but everything is still in good order.
The ice machines didn't work on my floor and had to stop at a couple of other floors to find ice. The only soda vending machine was in the basement level near the garage and it didn't work for card purchases. I didn't have cash so I had to walk to a store to get a soda since the gift shop and restaurants were closed by 10pm. The fridge in my room wouldn't open but the sign on it said it was only for beverages and not for food/meds. I assume that it doesn't get cold enough for safe storage so why even offer it?
I'd stay here again for the location but I'd bring my own beverages if you get thirsty during the stay.

I stayed here for a business conference but doubt I would ever stay here on my own dime. Beds were very comfortable and had a great location with great views of the city. However, internet is extra $15 per day, microwave/fridge must be requested (although website says they are included), I had trouble getting ahold of anyone to order room service, no one ever cleaned my hotel room and there were dishes from a number of rooms on my floor that just sat in hall way ALL day. They only got removed when I called and asked later in day. Front desk staff were very nice but concierge refused to answer my question until after he spent a couple minutes condescending me.

Unfortunately, I didn't use the coffee maker. But, it's one of those where you need to insert a small plastic tub of coffee (provided in the room) into the machine. It has a water reservoir which I assume you can remove and replenish. Coffee creamer also provided. If you don't like Creamer there is a Target store (Walgreens and Whole Foods also) 10 minutes from the hotel where you can buy milk etc. Btw didn't see instructions for using the machine. The front desk are very helpful if you have problems, just phone down.
Hope this helps
Breakfast and afternoon appetizer's were done til about 7PM. Very busy club, lots of selections, weekend breakfast had 10 to 15 mins wait to get into the club.
I had used Uber. Cost appx $ 40. But it all depends on the time as Uber fairs keep fluctuating
