We just got back from a lovely stay at PUBLIC Chicago. It was recommended to us and we are glad we went! Such a beautiful hotel in such a classy high end neighbourhood. The decor and design of the lobby and rooms is stunning. Very friendly accommodating front desk people. Clean and well appointed overall. The only thing we were...

Dear Jaclyn G., Thank you for sharing your experience at PUBLIC. We are thrilled to read that you enjoyed the décor, location, and the friendly service of our staff. We apologize that our parking valet staff did not feel friendly and accommodating and that it made you feel awkward walking into the hotel. This is certainly not our standard. Thank...

Let's point the good: location, cleanliness and staff courtesy. Disappointments: complimentary breakfast was very weak; the "free wi-fi" promise is misleading. My son and I both work over the Internet and the hotel only gives you one free device.

This is a very old hotel. It used to be the Ambassador East and still has the elegance of a well aged woman. The room we had still need much work. The pictures were oddly placed. The people who work there are terrific and the food in the Pump Room is first class. The Chocolate Chip dessert was amazing. Yum!...

The Public is gorgeous. The neutral color scheme is oddly warm and comfortable. The rooms are small but it's a historic hotel in the city, that's to be expected. I was heartbroken that there was no coffeepot in the room – so you either have to go to the lobby to purchase a cup (which I think was $3.50 and...

I loved this hotel. My boyfriend and I stayed here for a weekend on our trip (my first trip) to Chicago. We were immediately greeted with very welcoming, helpful, and accomodating bell men and experienced the same customer service upon check in and check out. The lobby is simply stunning and awe inspiring, I am a big fan of the...

I stayed at PUBLIC for a hybrid business/leisure trip. I was traveling alone. The rooms are simple, elegant and cozy--in the best Schrager tradition. The bed looks like a futon but is actually one of the most comfortable beds in my recent memory; a delight at the end of the day. Downstairs you can enjoy the library and Pump Room....

Great Hotel , very stylish, great little bar and restaurant - my only two points to highlight are that some rooms look inwards and have not very exciting views - and if you are here for business be aware that there is no room service before 7:00 am - which was a bit of a pain.. but they do have...

Staying in Gold Coast

Neighbourhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
