The Ambassador Chicago is a lovely hotel in a great walkable neighborhood. The people are professional, helpful, and friendly. The food and drinks are tasty. The room was perfect for our week-long visit. Valet service was convenient and efficient. Special shout-out to Jasmine at the front desk. Will definitely stay here again.

Hotel's Favourite
First time at the Ambassador. Had a great experience. A quiet location, yet only 3-4 blocks from lots of restaurants in the Rush Street/State Street area. Room was very nice, housekeeping and lobby staff very friendly and efficient. Lobby area small, but very nicely furnished with a number of comfortable chairs and sofas. Only drawback - just two elevators, had to wait several minutes on a couple of occasions. Highly recommended.

This is fantastic hotel in a fantastic neighborhood with a great restaurant and bar. The coroner suite I was assigned on the 8th floor was functionally fantastic to work and entertain. The staff at the restaurant worked really hard to make up for staffing issues and I’d like to thank them for their hard work. Will recommend to colleagues and friends when visiting Chicago.

I booked my room through booking.com and had a marvelous two night stay at the Ambassador. The hotel room was very bright and spacious. The hotel is a little on the older side but the look and feel was modern. The location was simply perfect. I would 10/10 recommend.

After I reported a highly offensive encounter w/a staff, I asked a self described supervisor what they would do. He explained that my only choice was to agree to speak to a security person (late evening) to interrogate me. The security guy told me in disbelief that one of the JDV staff mocked me with a fake Chinese accent, "You don't even have much of an accent." That's because I was born in Pittsburgh, PA. GO STEELERS! And, this is why overt racism against Americans of Asian descent (I'm sick of calling myself Asian American) is widely accepted and treated as comic relief. WTF. Melvin, the supervisor, urged me to refrain from emailing anyone. Instead, the only course of action was to speak with the security person. Although I emphasized to him that this was the last thing I wanted to do at 8:30 PM in the night, that didn't figure into the equation for The Ambassador Chicago, where guests' needs are more of a nuisance than their clogged drains and lack of microwaves. Perhaps if one is the spitting image of an Aryan that walked out of an issue of Town & Country, they will receive wonderful service. While a former model a few decades ago for the country's top agency, staff treated me as if I was interviewing for a housecleaning position. As for my daughter, they must have figured that I couldn't find a sitter for the shift. Shame on them. Postscript: Melvin called me after the GM also called me. Melvin promised he would email me his contact information after we hung up. Guess what? Of course he didn't. The GM vowed he would apologize to my daughter because this was such an unacceptable experience. I will hold him to that. After sharing this experience with a handful of colleagues, friends, and family, each person (all white people, btw) asked, "Did they offer to refund you the hotel bill?" Now I feel stupid for neglecting to think of such an obvious gesture in an attempt to make amends. I guess I need to think more like a white person, who demands things that they're entitled to. Instead, I was just shocked that anyone finally acknowledged the many missteps, albeit very delayed and too diluted. Silver lining: This series of events at Ambassador Chicago now will serve as good material for my writings.

Thank you for taking the time to speak to me regarding this issue. As I shared, we do not tolerate any such behavior, and it does not reflect the service guests should expect at the Ambassador. I apologize for the interaction your daughter experienced and look forward to speaking directly with her. We have taken direct action to ensure that this does not happen again and are continuing to refresh service training with the whole team. I care deeply about your experience and hope to welcome you both back and make this experience up to you. Please use my contact information that I’ve shared with you to reach out to me at any time. We were so disappointed with our stay at the Ambassador Chicago. We paid for a junior suite and for the price we paid, we couldn’t have been more let down. The room was clean, but very “tired”, the sofa was completely saggy and uncomfortable, there were no amenities included, the bathroom was small and outdated for a suite, and the room was just super underwhelming. It would’ve been fine had we the expectation of a normal room, but to splurge on a suite for a nice weekend away, this felt like a total rip off. We’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels around the world, including many others right down the road, and again, this is just way overpriced for what you get. Would definitely not stay again nor recommend.

We celebrated our anniversary here. The rooms and hallways were outdated. The tub was peeling. The air conditioner was so loud it was hard to sleep. Overall, we were not impressed by any aspect of the hotel experience.

The hotel is beautiful and the staff is so friendly and accommodating. When you stay in a historic hotel, you have to scale your expectations - things will be a little funky and small, but that’s part of the charm. The room was lovely and clean, though the pillows are super flat and the bathroom sink is a little awkward. Overall a lovely and comfortable stay. But…the food, not so much. We did dinner twice at the Ambassador Room. The food is overpriced for the quality and horribly under-seasoned. Fool me twice, shame on me, but I was hoping for more success the second time. They do make a great whiskey sour though. We also did breakfast at the Library. The food and coffee were decent but not awesome. The “omelette” was scrambled eggs with cheese. Don’t waste your time eating here for any meals. There are some great places within walking distance.
