If you want some major creep vibes, book a room. I stayed last week and felt like I was in The Shining. Surely Jack Nicholson is hanging out around there somewhere! The Exercise Room signs literally takes you to the Congressional Suite, room 666 is clearly sealed off with a bad wallpaper job, the hallways and rooms are rundown and need love. The elevator is fast, so that was awesome! I read about bed bugs while we were staying here, but we didn't have this issue. But our room had a musty chlorine smell. Took a walk to 441 and felt uninvited. There is something going on here for sure. I'll never stay here again. Good luck.

Hotel's Favourite
This hotel is in a great location near Grant Park, Millenium Park, Magnificent Mile, RIverwalk.....all within walking distance. Room was very clean, beds were firm, bathroom spacious enough, beautiful lobby. I loved the historical story behind its changes during the years. Walls were not real soundproof and we had to call security at 4:00am due to loud argument next door which continued the next night, but not as late. Felt safe in hotel.

The state of the hotel room we staying in was downright disgusting. In the bathroom: the shower fixtures are coming off the walls, no plug for the tub, and BLACK MOLD coming through the grout. There was constant fast-paced dripping from tub faucet, incredibly obnoxious at night. I had to drape a towel over the faucet to lead the water quietly to the drain. The toilet plunger inside the toilet gets stuck open so the toilet is constantly running. Eventually, we learned that you need to jiggle the handle until you hear it close. We washed our hair in the sink. Decided we were better off not using the shower. The coffee maker has a plug that’s too short to work from a table. Has to be plugged in on a nightstand or the floor to reach an outlet. Not sure what the room was cleaned with but everything was damp and sticky when we checked in - most notably, the bathroom floor and bed. The bed smelt like acetone. The room next to us was booked with multiple young children. The third night, I called the desk after 10pm and they sent security up to tell us that WE got the noise complaint before realizing we were the ones who called. I went to use the body lotion and found someone else’s hair (and crusty lotion on both from possibly refilling) on the inside of the cap. We didn’t touch any other unsealed products after that. The staff brought up a small and very damaged portable heater upon our request even though it was cold enough to have them in the rooms to start with. Over all, we felt as though we were staying with someone who could barely afford to put us up. What a repugnant experience for a honeymoon trip.

We are here right now. The rooms are disgusting. Dingy. Old. Dirty. Beds are awful. Hard. Old mattresses. Old, dirty comforter. It smells like mildew. The floors are damp and old. They don’t have heat, so if you’re cold they can bring you a portable heater, otherwise you’re forced to just deal with the discomfort. There’s a TV but the remote didn’t have batteries. The only redeeming quality is the location : great for the Chicago marathon (which is why we are here) and close to the park and Michigan Avenue hot spots. But if you’re looking for proximity to the loop, there are far better options. I’ve honestly stayed at Motel 6’s that are better than this. I can’t believe this hotel still books guests. Guaranteed no one returns. Originally we were given a room in the South Tower. It was HORRIBLE. We asked if there were other options and we were upgraded to the North Tower. It was a step up but still disgusting. It’s so bad here that we are considering forfeiting the money we paid and moving hotels. It’s worth it to pay double to stay in a place that’s livable. It’s AWFUL HERE. Stay far far away.

Like any downtown hotel you are close enough to the noisy above-ground El and regular fire or ambulance sirens to need them unless you are a deep sleeper. Try to imagine how age has changed you before judging this classic and historic hotel 🤔 Rooms are larger than comparative downtown hotels. Perfect location for downtown visit. Fast elevator which is worth noting if your room is higher-up.
