This hotel is in excellent location. Easy transportation, a block from river walk, Tribune plaza, shopping and dining. Whole Foods across the street makes your life easy. The hotel service is superb, great breakfast bar. Ask for Makrand, he is a great front desk guy, he can give you good advice on what to do in chicago.

We recently brought our two girls here on a family trip to Chicago. We were greeted by a wonderful bell staff who brought our bags right up to our room, a very accommodating front desk staff and have been treated the same by waiters, housekeeping, etc. Everyone in the hotel has made us feel so welcome. It’s a perfect location with gorgeous city views and the suites are great for families with little ones who need naps or early bed times. Our girls have LOVED the pool and the breakfast. We are very glad we picked this location and will be back!

The embassy Suites Hotel is adequate but also very popular as there were a LOT of guests staying during our visit.Having to share the facilities with loads of other people, particularly family groups took the shine off a few things for me but this is not a fault of the Hotel itself.

Decor

All very functional but the overall feel of the lobby and dining areas reminded me of package tour holiday hotels with lots of people coming and going and it was very noisy. The decor is smart but drab at the same time.

Breakfast

On weekends expect to wait up to 20 minutes in a queue to get your breakfast omelette. Formica table tops and cast iron chairs with slate tiled floors does little to make the hotel feel plush. Buffet facilities are adequate but no more than that. The hotel was popular with families so expect lots of kids to be charging about and long waits at the lifts during peak times as they are invariably always full..

Room.

We opted for one of the best rooms in the hotel and were not disappointed. We had two comfortable double beds and a separate private lounge with settee and chairs and large flat screen TVs in both rooms. Bathroom was a little disappointing as the basin stopper did not operate and the water pressure from the tap was little more than a dribble. Shower was OK but nothing special .

Saturday was a very noisy night as the rooms are situated around the centre of the hotel and all noise from the bar & dining area on the ground floor carries all the way up to the top floor (17th) where our room was. Thankfully our private lounge cut out the noise from outside getting to the bedroom but without that I'd have been very upset indeed.

Staff.

The staff we met at the hotel were brilliant. All were tremendously friendly and very, very helpful.. Special thanks go to John and Erin at the concierge desk and to Dinah in reception. Such lovely people who really made our stay so much more enjoyable. Thank you..

Verdict.

We were not disappointed with our 3 night stop over (Friday to Monday) at the Embassy Suites but in all honesty I expected a plusher/ more expensive ambiance / feel to the hotel for my money. At $545 for a 3 night stay in Downtown Chicago it wasn't top end but not a bargain either. Having to deal with lots of families and kids running around might be OK for some people but my wife and I are of an age where we appreciate peace and quiet and a relaxed atmosphere. You certainly won't get that at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Nth Columbia Drive Chicago.

One very nice touch is that you get free drinks between 17:30 and 19:00. We were allocated 4 drinks each per night but rarely had more than one or two because the queue to get served was just far too long. Ridiculously long! I had better things to do than wait 10-15 minutes each time I wanted a drink.

Would I stay at the Embassy suites again? Maybe? However, I'd first do some research to see if I could find a better (more exclusive) hotel for the same kind of outlay that was quieter and less popular with families so I could enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere.

I have stayed at this Embassy Suites many times since my first stay when the hotel first opened. For the last 4 or 5 years at Christmas I always return to this hotel with my son mainly because of its excellent location. It is just off the Magnificent Mile and only 5 minute walk to the heart of Michigan Avenue. The other great thing is that Whole Foods is right opposite the hotel, which is really convenient.

The problem with this hotel is that it is now becoming dated. Last year and this year, especially, I really noticed that the rooms need real overalls to the extent that I had to change my room this year after just one night as the suite was in such poor condition.

The first room/suite I was given was on the 12th Floor and was a city view overlooking Whole Foods. This was the first time I had not had a Lake view and the bathroom that was the real issue and the air-conditioning that in the bedroom was exceptionally cold even though we had the thermostat at full.

The bathroom had serious stains on the tiled floor that were unsightly and did not appear to be able to come out. The faucet on the sink were not secured correctly and moving and had dust around it from the grinding as it moved.

The bath/shower was the worst I have experienced in a hotel for a long time. It clearly showed it's age of about 20 years with a poorly fitting faucet that has an exposed hole/gap around it and had difficulty clicking to the shower mode because the mechanics did not work properly. There were also dark patches around the bath caulking that were off-putting.

We also had problems with the door. The secondary security lock did not work and even though we called maintenance about it, the maintenance guy could not fix it and gave us a lame excuse. As such on day 2 of the 5 day stay I requested a room change.

Now the staff at this hotel are excellent. They all get a 10 out of 10. From the ladies who service the rooms to the breakfast staff and the front desk staff, I cannot say a negative thing against any of them. Once I complained about the first room, the Front Desk was very responsive and when I went to the front desk to change the room after I had texted them, the gentleman immediately changed our room to a Lake view suite on the 11th floor that had no problems at all and the rest of the stay was excellent.

So overall, apart from the first room that I was give the evening I arrived, everything was quite pleasant and fine. therefore rather than a 4 or 5, I would rate this stay a 3.9 because the first room/suite was so poor.

Other than that this Embassy Suite location is really quite nice and up to the usual Embassy Suite standard one expects.

We stayed the first weekend in January and it was packed. Our check in was great, Kielvin was very helpful and pleasant. The lobby is nice and we appreciated the fast elevators. Even with the hotel packed you never had to wait very long, unlike the nearby Embassy Suites on State St. where the elevator wait times were enough to keep me from rebooking.

We arrived around 3:30 pm and a room was ready. On our way there we couldn't help noticing plates and dirty dishes outside many rooms . Not just a couple, I'm talking several rooms down each hallway of our floor. There were also dirty dishes outside the door to our room. Our room was the biggest let down. They are far overdo for a complete remodel. The decor itself was drab and gloomy enough, but everything was worn down and stained. There was a big stain on our sofa, black marks in the toilet from I assume a plunger at some point, dark stains in the bathtub and rough, worn carpet. The bathroom was very weathered, with another large odd green stain on the mirror that I think was a melted spot. I had paid for a corner room, only to find the additional window you gain in the corner is covered with a large cabinet and tv, plus the curtains were closed and were very difficult to open with said furniture in the way. We did like the larger living area in the corner suite.

The other big disappointment was the pool, which is one of the main reasons we chose to stay here. It was so packed you could barely move - my kids were getting kicked, jumped on, and splashed constantly. It wasn't just inconvenient, it was a safety issue. There were anxious parents crowded around talking to each other about how bad it was and no one wanted to stay long. While the policy is no unattended children, no one is there to enforce this and there was a group of wild kids making it unsafe for everyone.

Breakfast was wonderful, as is the standard at Embassy. We did not experience any lines or wait, despite how full the hotel was and we went at 10:00 on Saturday morning. The breakfast staff was also pleasant and helpful.

I would stay here again if the rooms are remodeled. If you don't need the pool and you won't be in your room much, this would be a good choice for hotel. The location is great.

Room was clean and good size. Breakfast line took forever for mediocre food. Manager reception had hummus and cucumbers with lemonade. Pool was closed for most of our time. Homewood suites on Grand has a full meal with drinks for managers reception for a lot less money on a Sunday-Thursday. Go there.

I love this hotel. I’ve stayed here multiple times for different reasons — family and business trips. For starters, the rooms are always very clean and large. The view from this hotel is awesome — whether it’s a Lake or city view! Can’t beat the free breakfast in the mornings with made to order omelettes, meats, as well as a continental breakfast. Love that it has a sauna as well! It’s about a block off the Magnificent Mile (toward Lake Michigan) so it ends up being an ideal location for walking the city, but feels far enough away from the bustle of River North and its late night shenanigans. Plus, very convenient on-site parking.

My family recently stayed here to visit the Navy Pier. We primarily chose this hotel because of its location in relation to Navy Pier. The room was okay. Was it the best, no. Could it have been cleaner, yes. Overall it wasn’t all bad but it definitely has seen better days. The staff at the front desk was pleasant and helpful. So was the gentleman at the bell hop desk. Our room had great views of the city and Lake Michigan.

I guess we just expected more from the Hilton brand. Usually when we stay at a Hilton property we’ve had very clean accommodations. With the hotel being located downtown so near everything, we expected more of the same from Hilton. We were slightly disappointed.

The bathroom in our room had a few loose hairs and the bathroom floor could have definitely been cleaner. There were several spots with mold/mildew in the bathtub/shower area. There was also mold just the rim of the bathroom sink. Like I said, the place could use a good deep clean. There was also some smudges of something on the door and the light switch. I always bring Clorox wipes and Lysol spray when we travel. I used these items to very easily wipe these areas clean. Definitely made me question the overall cleanliness of the room if something so obvious was looked over by the cleaning staff.

The wardrobe in the bedroom was damaged and there were also a few stains on the curtains.

We had planned to take our boys swimming, but the pool was closed for “repairs”. Wish we had been told this prior.

The complimentary breakfast was decent. Although I don’t feel as though enough is being done to in relation to keeping guest healthy and safe. There were quite a few children running around serving themselves—using hands instead of serving utensils to reach in to grab food items. No parents in site. And no employees to curtail this behavior. Overall the room wasn’t completely gross, but we have definitely had cleaner accommodations at other Hilton locations. In all honesty I doubt we would stay here again.

Family of 4 stayed in a suite for 4 nights. Location is great. You are a short walk from the Big Bus tours stop at the sheraton, theres a whole foods across the street and other nice attractions close by. Breakfast was also a good experience. Thats about where the good ends. These walls are paper thin. We heard a man repeatedly slap a woman one night and that in itself was traumatic. Aside from hearing everything your neighbors are up to… 🤢 the cleanliness was deplorable. There was a large and highly visible amount of hair stuck to the wall in the shower and it took them 2 full days and no less than 6 phone calls/texts with me finally having a complete meltdown to the manager of housekeeping for someone to come. Irony was on day 1 after the hair discovery housekeeping did come to the room to make the bed, but they left the hair in the shower and the moldy shower curtain that we had also requested to be changed bc It also did not look fresh. The toilet ran the entire time we were here. It clogged at one point and it took an entire day and repeated calls to get that fixed as well. There were sticky spots on the floor. And a towel hook was ripped out of the wall and just hanging. The room we stayed in was also a little dated/ worn looking. The pool is tiny and we spent exactly 45 mins of misery there amongst at least 5 wild unattended kids who were swimming in their clothes plus at least 15 other people. The pool is not large enough for a hotel this size and the majority of the people in it acted like they were all jacked up on red bull and determined to cannon ball (mind you they were jumping in 3’ deep water which is an entirely different safety concern) every last drop of water from the pool. We constantly had to pull our kids out of the way for fear somebody was about to jump on top of them. Just for reference. We typically stay at Hampton Inns or air b&b’s… we are not super high end hotel people. Quiet and clean are our 2 priorities. I can’t recommend this hotel. There are plenty of other options in Chicago. We had a lovely trip aside from all of the frustrations with this place!! I’m very excited to leave tomorrow morning and get back to my house!

We apologize for the poor experience you had with us LesliMcCully. It sounds like you spoke to a manager and it also sounds like we have more follow-up to do to insure no one has this experience again. We will be reviewing your comments with the team in detail to determine how we will insure this is not repeated. Weekends are busy at most hotels in Chicago so quiet cannot always be guaranteed, but there is no excuse for a lack of cleanliness and responsiveness on the part of our staff. This will be addressed.

Room was clean. Valet was not available but self parking with in/out privileges was in building so cost less than what valet would’ve been so I was fine with that.
but some things I didn’t like:
1) it’s not that close (walking distance) to magnificent mile. I was told 5 min to American girl but it took more like 20
2) we arrived at 2pm and was told our room wasn’t ready until 4 but could pay $30 to get a room immediately. So let me get this straight….my room isn’t ready but I can pay to have it ready now?
3) we needed extra pillows since kids were using pull out couch. After hitting every button on room phone I finally got an “energetic” person that said she’d send some up. Kids fell asleep and they never came.
4) we had no tissues in our room as it was empty so used toilet paper for our nose
5) breakfast was crazy crowded. This was a Tuesday morning and all hot items were gone but will say they re-filled quickly. Omelet line was over a 30 min wait was told
6) after breakfast it was hard to snag an elevator so line started forming.
7) forgot our toothbrush so asked front desk after coming back and she acted annoyed she had to get it

Yes - Either with two queens (which would sleep 4 - plus the sofabed would sleep another 2) or one King bed sleeping 2 plus the sofa bed will sleep another two. Make sure to indicate the number of people in the room and drinks and breakfast will be for all.

They have a hot and cold cereal bar( oatmeal for hot) and pastry station ( mixed muffins danishes toast bagels ) juice bar (apple orange cranberry ) fresh fruit (usually apples and bananas) and their special omlets cooked to order —- and your standard scrambled eggs bacon/ sauce links, hash browns —-there is literally something for everybody and of course coffee 😊

I stayed at the Embassy Suites Mag Mile last October. I had 2 Queen beds and a sofa bed in the living room. I believe if there's a sofa your room, it should be a sofa bed. Perhaps you could call the hotel and verify it. Also, there's 2 Embassy Suites within the vicinity and the one on Mag Mile is newer than the other. Hope this info helps.
