Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

The JW Marriott Chicago boasts spacious and quiet rooms that many guests find well-appointed, complemented by a prime location convenient for exploring local attractions. While the hotel's cleanliness receives accolades, some travelers point out housekeeping inconsistencies. The atmosphere is generally praised, but the lobby's ambiance may not meet everyone's expectations of luxury.
Guests appreciate the amenities, though the additional charges for services like internet and the gym's lack of natural light are noted drawbacks. Service quality appears to vary, with experiences of both helpful staff and frustrating service delays.

Detailed Reviews
I was here a few weekends ago as part of a wedding party and was a little nervous because of some of the negative reviews on here. Overall, though, this hotel easily surpassed my expectations and I was happy with my stay.
A few days prior to my arrival I received an email asking if I had any special requests. I told them I wanted a king size bed on a higher floor with a view. They responded to me that they would try to honor the request.
On check-in, we got exactly that. A nice king size bed, spacious room, with an outdoor view. Everything about the room was totally comfortable. Bed comfortable, I liked the marble bathroom with toilet separate, and the walk in shower. The walk in shower was especially good as there was a lip on the shower floor that prevented water from spilling out. I've been in too many hotels where there's no lip and water just spills out onto the floor. So this was a detail I appreciated.
It's Covid time so I completely undersand that hotels are stretched. I know that a lot of hotels around the country are not providing housekeeping on a daily basis due to staffing issues. They didnt mention this when we checked in. That said, though it came late, they did clean our room and did a good job of it, so I was happy.
Others have mentioned service quality issues. I did not have that experience. My partner and I noticed quickly that the coffee provided in the room was decaf only. I called the service desk and asked for a few pods of regular coffee and it was quickly brought to our room. So that was nice.
The only issue I had with the room was the towels in the bathroom. They were just thin and not very plush. For a hotel aiming for the quality it's aiming for I'd expect better towels. But this is a minor issue I had.
This hotel's location worked perfectly for my needs as it was close to the wedding event venues. I also use to work in the Willis Tower just nearby so was well aware of the location. This location works if you need to be in the center of the loop or west loop. It's not as good if you are in Chicago for things along the Magnificent Mile or the North side. Just keep that in mind.
Overall, I was happy with my stay at this hotel and would recommend it if you need to be in the loop area.

The hotel is attractive, clean and well organized. The room was the same. Nice deep bath tub, efficient, clean, well outfitted room. At over $300 for a Friday night I would have expected more though. Maybe a jetted tub, complimentary beverages, more channels on the TV, a room with a view....something! The shower door could swing in or out. There was about a 1/2-3/4" gap under the door. When I finished with my shower I found a puddle that extended into the hallway. It took several towels and the bath mat to soak it up. That shorted us towels for the morning. Parking was validated at a ramp around the corner. That was worth about $40-50 at cheaper hotels.
We had dinner that night. My wife and I had the same. I don't remember what it was called, but it was a fettuccine type pasta, red sauce, muscles, three large shrimp, one large scallop, two soft drinks, two milk, and one order of chicken strips. They started with 6 small slices of bread. equal to two in most Italian restaurants. The fettuccine meal would have almost fit in one cupped hand. Take the shells off the muscles and definitely would have fit in one hand. The wait staff kept flittering in trying to grab dishes before we finished probably 5-6 times. Dessert wasn't offered. We asked. We had a tiny slice of chocolate cake (mudslide?) with a tiny scoop of ice cream. I guess it wasn't meant for sharing. All of that for over $120 before the tip. I think someone must be pretty full of themselves in thinking THAT food was worth THAT much.
All in all it wasn't an unpleasant stay or meal. Just way over priced

Big bold rooms, quiet, clean and close to everything. Booked this hotel to be close to work and was happily rewarded with a great stay. With executive lounge status (it's open, friendly, coffee and fruit, and with great breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres!), I was really fortunate to receive exceptional hospitality from Katie and Heidi during my first night stay. Katie went out of her way to ensure I had something vegetarian/non dairy to eat when the Lounge was serving really beautiful looking meat options. She even checked to see that the yummy salad she had provided met my needs!
In the morning, my delight was amplified from the service from Elizabeth who also went above and beyond to ensure I was well fed and ready for a big day of meetings. Throughout my stay, staff were cleaning the hotel/lounge to ensure it was safe and masks are required (they will provide a disposable mask, should you need one).
Whatever the JW Marriott is doing to retain these exceptional hospitality staff....Bravo!!! Thanks for an amazing stay and for having an OPEN exec lounge as this is an amenity I truly appreciate when traveling.
Gym is huge and open 5a - 10 p. It was totally empty at 5 am - very clean with water and towels provided. Tons of weights and machines.

I recently spent 4 nights at this property during an extended work project. It was very early mornings and long nights, but I came back to a comfortable room. The staff was very helpful but the only issue I experienced was on Saturday when my room was not cleaned. I did enjoy one breakfast and one dinner from room service, which were both decent. I’d stay here for business again due to its proximity to my office, but probably would choose elsewhere when/if traveling for pleasure. I’m sure it will be much nicer after renovations are completed.

I was there for 3 nights for business travel. Check-in was fine but no recognition for platinum elite. There was a problem with my room key on the third night. I tried both key cards and not working so I stopped by at the front desk. The lady was probably having a bad day so was kinda giving me attitude and asked me if I was at the correct floor or the room might be wrong. I told her this is my 3rd night here and I am pretty sure I was trying to get into my room. She gave me a new card to try which was still not working. Called the front desk again and she said she’ll send some facilities person over. Waited over 10 mins no one show up. Had to call again and finally someone come up. When I said I’ve been waiting for about 10 mins, he asked me was it really 10 mins?! No apologies or whatsoever. Plain rude! Turns out the keypad battery was dead which is why no keycard works.

I’m a loyal Marriott traveler and have never been so disappointed with a stay. The level of service is like a two star hotel when we paid a premium to stay here being marathon weekend. When we arrived no one was outside to hep us with our luggage, not once was there a bell man to hail a cab either. It’s marathon weekend, we have an infant, and prior to arrival I asked for a late check out so I could finish the race and allow our daughter to have a nap before flying home. At first, the late check out was granted, something they always do for Elite members, then they rescinded it. When I inquired they said I could pay $180 to stay until 6:30 pm, but no they wouldn’t extend a complimentary late check out. Clearly there is room available, they are just trying to pinch more money off their loyal customers. Tonight, the night before the marathon, I asked room service to deliver a bowl, coffee mug and spoon and they told me I had to come downstairs to get it, as they didn’t have someone to bring it up to us. When my husband went down, he was given a plastic bowl and paper cup. For platinum elite members Marriott always provides room upgrades when available. It’s a busy weekend, so I understand that, but the room we were given was garbage. It is dated and has a view of other hotel rooms. I will never stay here again and it really makes me wonder about how JW’s as a brand are managed.

Our recent 4-day stay was excellent in every aspect. The room was immaculate and beautifully appointed, the beds and linens were great quality, and oh my, the extra deep and long soaking tub in our bathroom got a lot of use. We enjoyed the Italian restaurant, Florentine, on the premises so much that we dined there twice and the servers were very welcoming and attentive (say yes please to the generous mimosas at Sunday brunch). The service in the spa was top notch and the massage therapists were superb. The bar in the lobby was a beautiful, friendly and comfortable place to hang out with the relatives that we were in town to visit and a great place for evening snacks and cocktails while playing cards. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Stayed a few days with family in a connected suite. The rooms were updated and had many nice features. Just wish the floors were not carpeted. Everything was clean and beds were great. Lounge breakfast was simple but good but happy hour food goes quickly so we didn’t get to eat. My complaint is that this hotel still uses tiny plastic bottles instead of more eco-friendly refillable shampoo/soap. Not sure why when Marriott has this options in their other hotels.

We had pretty nice staycation for Valentine's Day. This is fairly old style traditional, even classic, luxe hotel in the heart of the Loop, close to Union Station, Financial District, Millennium Park and other "go to places" in downtown. Got early check in, and upgraded to very nice and spacious suite, as Marriott Platinum Member. Service was good throughout. Well, of course a lot of stuff is closed due to COVID, including Lounge. Florentine is pretty spot for breakfast and lunch, but the food options are limited, and somewhat mediocre. The pool experience was downright bad, once again, due to COVID regulations. Even after making required reservation for 1 hour slot, we couldn't enjoy the pool. It wasn't our idea to share the pool with a bunch of very noisy kids, even without COVID. Other than that, absolutely no complaints, and the value was good too. Recommend for both leisure and business travelers, especially if moderately priced.

I’m surprised by some of the negative reviews here. I just stayed at the hotel for 6 nights visiting from the UK on business. It was a positive experience from first to last. The check in was rapid and friendly. My room (717) was quiet and well appointed with a king size bed and large airy bathroom with a shower and separate bath tub. I had breakfast at Florentine 3 times which was very good. If there is one small criticism it is that the waiters on each occasion were less than friendly and need to provide service with a smile. By contrast, the bartenders were great and mixed a great Manhattan! The hotel is perfectly located for anyone on business in the West Loop business district. I will stay here again gladly.

The Spa was still closed when I was there a couple of weeks ago
No it was close
We went to a really fun rooftop bar next to the Art Institute. I can't remember the name but you could see the Art Institute from the roof. It's toward Millennium Park. Perhaps the hotel staff would know the name.
