I cannot express how disappointed, disrespected and absolutely ripped off I am feeling. This hotel is an absolute joke. The rooms lack amenities, the management and costumer service is appalling, and the fees that they sneak onto your credit card are highway robbery. I stayed here over the weekend of the 21st of October. For the price we paid I expected a decent hotel room but what I got was something I would expect at a Hostel. The room is about the size of a walk-in closet. On our second day there, we were locked out of our hotel room. None of our keys would work. This was causing us to run late for the event that we were in town for. There was no one at the front desk. I called out to behind the desk a few times. Just a “hello, we really need some help”. A young woman came out from the back and immediately started shouting at me. She called me disrespectful and told me that there was “no reason to scream at her.” I hadn’t even gotten a word in. I was so frustrated I went outside and let my fiancée handle the key issue. We went to our event and when we came back I attempted to speak with the owner about the interaction i had and the same girl came back out. She once again started yelling at me, calling me disrespectful and reprimanding me for calling out for help. When I attempted to tell her why I was upset she looked at the friend I was with and ask her if she could “control me”. The owner stood there and told us to “go do this somewhere else” because he had to take a call. On top of the horrible service, they have put an extra $400 worth of charges on my fiancées credit card and claim they are for “clean up fees” for a mess that WE cleaned up. (We had a friend get sick and had to use some towels to clean it because room service was out for the night). Please don’t waste your money here. You will be highly disappointed and treated like crap.…
In addition to the cost of our room, we were charged $110 USD for a 'resort fee'?! We're still perplexed as to what this fee was even for? We booked a hotel.....because we wanted a hotel. The 'resort fee' allegedly provides you with access to discounts on local attractions and (limited) free coffee and alcohol throughout your stay. For starters, sightseeing was not the goal of this trip so, this was a useless 'perk'. (And frankly if we did want to go sightseeing, we would just google a discount code). As for the 'free drinks', the coffee bar was vacant and had a 'for lease' sign posted in the window so, that was a bust....and alcohol wasn't attainable because there was hardly ever anyone at the front desk to even be able to ask about these drinks. When we questioned the fee, we were told that it was 'mandatory'.....but how can something that we never asked for, never wanted and never used be made mandatory???? We stayed at the same hotel previously when it was known as Fieldhouse Jones. Back then, the hotel had a cool vibe and great amenities and yet, there was no 'resort fee'. They offer NOTHING now.....but have the audacity to charge you an egregious fee for....????.......I still don't actually know what this fee is for. You'd have a better experience setting your money on fire. A total sham!!!…
In general I liked the hotel and enjoyed my stay for 5 nights. The hotel is located right next to downtown Chicago and the distance to the main shopping street, Michigan Ave, is totally walkable. Also it is pretty easy to get to the Old Town and Gold Coast areas, which I personally like a lot. The area where the hotel is seemed completely safe. The only one thing, which was not good, was the metro line, which runs right next to the hotel and you can clearly hear the train sound. These noises of a train going by your window, can get annoying at some point. The hotel’s building is old, but renovated very nicely. The hotel’s lobby is very nicely decorated, it has “a hostel for young people” attitude. My check-in to the hotel was a little bit bumpy. The front desk ladies who were working that day gave me a hard time to check in (one of them seemed completely unprofessional, she did not know what to do). First of all, the hotel canceled my reservation for some reason, so they spent like 20 min trying to restore my reservation, which was already paid by the way. After that, they made me spend time for an online check-in form, which was kind of long and complicated. The reason of that form was the virtual key for the room, but for some reason they also gave me a regular card door key. So why would I spend all that time to fill out the form? Lol Finally I got to my room and I liked what I got. The room was very big and completely remodeled, everything was ideally clean there and looked fresh, I liked the room design. I loved the high ceilings a lot. Also the window was big. Unfortunately, there was no way to open it, so there was never fresh air in my room, I always had to use an air conditioner which was right on top of my bed. Me personally, I did not like that because my nose is super sensitive to the blowing cold air and I get a running nose very easily. The King bed was super comfortable and I also liked the pillows a lot. I adored the closets in the room. There was a lot of space inside of the closets, plus, I liked its style which was like school lockers. The bathroom in my room was big enough and nicely designed. I loved the shower, the water pressure was strong. The bathroom amenities were of a good quality and smelled well. Wi-Fi was working super fast. The thing I did not really like was that my room was located and facing a parking lot. All the people who parked their cars could clearly see me through the window. So most of the time I had to keep the curtains closed. Another negative thing about my stay was the nightly price difference which I paid. For the first two nights (Friday-Saturday) I had to pay about $250 per night and for the rest three nights I paid only approximately $80 per night. This money difference for a night is completely crazy! It should not be like that! The hotel is good, but not that great to pay $250 per night for room. I think a price around $100 per night is the perfect deal for this hotel. Overall, I recommend this hotel for stay in Chicago.…
No stuff at reception at night time, no security! Stranger entered my room early morning! No excuses or explanations from the hotel! Deposit was charged from the card and was not refunded. No answers on emails
Husband and I stayed here for a week without ourkids. We stayed in a room with a kitchenette and used a government rate as hubs is a govt employee, so it was the same rate no matter the size of the room. This place is more like an Airbnb, which we liked. It’s not a place where they will rush to your room to give you extra towels, and we didn’t have anyone clean our room while we were there, which was fine. There is a full kitchen with silverware/plates/coffee and tea in the basement, but we used our fridge/microwave in our kitchenette as needed. The basement also had board games/ping pong table/two peleton bikes but we never used them. Very cool antique/vintage sports theme throughout. The hotel staff is typically one person at the front desk from maybe 10:30/11am til midnight. I’d had questions about an early check in and reached someone via a text number a few days before I checked in. Otherwise, no one responded to a call or email. We could not check in til about 4 pm, but they stowed our luggage so we could explore the area before check in when we arrived several hours early from the airport. Similarly, when we checked out, we asked for a late check out for 1pm. We did so, and they stowed our luggage for awhile until we took a cab to the airport a few hours later. Hotel is about two blocks from the Chicago stop on the brown line CTA, and walkable to shops and restaurants along Wells and other streets. Very convenient location for a week of sightseeing. I’d brought earplugs as I read reviews about the train, which is right next to the hotel, and the front desk offers earplugs. We never needed them, as our room had great soundproofing in the windows. (Train was louder in the bathroom, but we didn’t care). Wifi worked well and tv/cable was fine. Room was clean and modern, with outlets everywhere and high ceilings with pipes throughout — the space is a former milk factory. Our suite had two twin beds and a queen, so would comfortably sleep four, plus a couch that someone could sleep on (husband used it to store his luggage). They do charge an amenity fee but there is no cafe on site (it is permanently closed and appears to be a casualty of the pandemic) and while you can get bottled water and some alcoholic drinks, we rarely used them. We had seen mentions of this fee in earlier reviews and just added them to the cost of the regular room rate, so it wasn’t a surprise. Overall, we had a great stay.…
This Building which they call a Hotel looks great in the pictures, but different in reality. I booked a room with my daughter and upon arrival the receptionist gave us a room with its window direclty facing the Elevated train tracks. The room looked diferrent from what is posted in the Internet. We asked for a room change but the reply was that all rooms were reserved. Funny how the rooms are all reseved when the Hotel was quit empty. The receptionist was very unfriendly and always not at her desk. During check out there was no one at the desk, even after waiting for thirty minutes.
Please read before booking in this place they call a “hotel”. I had 2 rooms reserved and PAYED via hotelbeds from 19th to 22st of May at the Hotel collection River north. We got there after midnight because we had problems with our flight. For our surprise, there was no one to check us in. I did not know no one will stay in the hotel during the night, what I think is an absurd. I tried to call and text the emergency number, and after a while someone responded saying my reservation was cancelled because it was too late. We got very frustrated and at that time we tried to look for some hotel nearby to spend the night. The next morning, we came back to the hotel collection river north to try to at least use our last night there since it was already paid. We talked to the front desk and explained the situation and she said our rooms were still available. She asked me for my credit card and I asked her TWICE if that was just for a hold, and she says yes. I received 3 different charges in my credit card: $56.99, 147.01, and 111.99. In the next morning I asked her again if that was just a hold, because rooms were already paid for and again she said yes. After weeks, one of the charges still remains in my credit card. I emailed the hotel explaining the situation and asking for a refund and they didn’t even respond me. What a bulls*** of a hotel. I 100% DO NOT recommend. It’s a joke.…
My stay was crazy… it looked great in pictures.. but no services… no front desk person, no manager, no food of any kind, no water in the room, no desk, no chair. It was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. In the morning I had a multi country Zoom call with blaring Rap… I had to take the call outside because there was no one to turn the lobby music down. No matter what.. never stay at this hotel.
We stay at Hotel Collection Chicago River North for 4 nights. The hotel is very small but is clean. The customer service was the worst we have EVER encountered! We were charged $900 for 4 nights for a double-bed room. When we checked in, they charged an additional $40+tax "resort fee" per night which was a total rip off, as there were virtually no amenities at this hotel. We called multiple times before our travel to request an early checkin, as our flight arrived at 11am. We had to call 3 times (and tried different times of the day) before someone answered the phone. We were told that early checkin is not allowed. The regular checkin time is 4pm (which is very late indeed, for any hotel). We showed up at exactly 4pm, but found that they still had not yet cleaned our room. We had to wait for over half an hour (even after pleading repeatedly), and we were almost late for an important appointment that late afternoon. On that late evening, another guest opened our room door and was about to enter into our room, while we were inside our room! When we complained about this incident the next morning (on our way out), the receptionist did not acknowledge that they might have issued the wrong key to other guests. Instead, she said she will find out from the security camera who entered our room the night before. She took our keys, and said we will get new keys when we return in the evening. Shockingly, when we returned in the evening, the staff on duty at the reception knew nothing of our incident. She could not find our names on the computer, and she told us that our room was cancelled! All our belongings were still inside our room, and we already paid for the next 3 nights. After lots of anxiety and waiting for over 15 mins, she finally gave us new keys to our room, and again promised that they will follow up on the security incident the next morning. We never heard back from the hotel about the incident (i.e. another guest getting into our room). There was always just one person at the reception throughout our stay, and often that person was not at the reception. When we checked out at around 10:30am, we saw that many people were waiting to check out, because the receptionist wasn't there. After waiting for some time, everybody (ourselves included) just left our keys on the reception desk. (In any case, they did not leave any instructions for auto-checkout). The reception was totally disorganized! The fridge in our room did not work. We had to store milk in the shared fridge in the basement instead. For 2 of the nights, a group of young people returned to the hotel at around 3am, and talk very loudly for up to 5 mins along the common corridor adjoining many bedrooms. It certainly woke up almost all guests on our floor. The hotel did nothing about it. Overall, an extremely bad experience indeed....…
