After a 4½ hour drive to the west from Heathrow, we arrived at the village of Narberth and followed the detailed instructions to find The Grove. The access road became a one-track path so narrow that the car was scraping hedgerows on both sides. We began to wonder what we had gotten into - was this a mistake?

We arrived at the gate to The Grove and finally got a glimpse of this country house hotel. This was no mistake - this place is a gem. Check-in was quick and easy. It was fun to explore the interior with its wood-burning fireplaces and comfy seating and then finding that each room was unique. Even the creaky wood floors add character to this charming hotel (a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World).

Rooms have a walk-in shower and tub, a king bed, a well-stocked fridge with free goodies, LCD TV, fast Wi-Fi, heated floors, and farm-themed decorations. There are views of the countryside with the Preseli hills in the distance. The location is ideal to explore the Pembrokeshire coastline.

We discovered the best part in the evening when we dined in the Artisan Brasserie. Everything on the menu is interesting and tasty. Everything. Breakfast was traditional with all that you would expect.

Even in January, the hotel was quite full. Our advice is book early. Yes, it is a challenge to get there, but after you arrive, you will be so glad you made the trek.

We booked a short local stay after Christmas to celebrate my husband's 80th birthday and the whole family, from 10 to 80 years, old enjoyed every moment. We were greeted as we walked down the drive and the discreet attentiveness of each member of staff shone throughout. The rooms, both in the garden and within the main country house style hotel, were delightful, our young granddaughters even set an early alarm to allow time to experience the slipper bath and the dog loved her bed, blankets and treats! The food served to our group of 12 was delicious and imaginative, much enjoyed by all! The various lounges provide peace and privacy and are beautifully furnished as is the entire hotel which wraps itself around you with stillness, comfort and luxury. We are so fortunate to have such a gem here in Pembrokeshire.

Thank you for choosing the Grove for such a significant birthday celebration. It was a privilege to host your family and to be the backdrop for such a lovely day. We are pleased you enjoyed the house and the surrounding suites, and we are delighted your granddaughters found so much to explore! The team are proud of their work and are pleased that you enjoyed the 'delicious and imaginative' dining for your husband's birthday dinner. We look forward to welcoming you all back, for many years to come.

This is a beautiful place, beautifully managed, with marvellous staff. A glorious house, wonderfully refurbished and decorated. Welcome is delightful, much needed cup of tea in one of the sitting rooms, room quite perfect, lovely bathroom, everything we needed. We ate at the hotel's brasserie, the Artisan Rooms. I have an intolerance to onions and garlic, which I know makes me very difficult to cater for, but some do, and the chefs at The Grove did. (The previous week I had eaten lunch at a restaurant in Bath who, despite notice, could only offer me a plain piece of fish, no sauce, nothing else, just a plain piece of fish.) By very welcome contrast Artisan Rooms at the Grove offered my my own printed menu with 5 options for starters, 5 for mains, all suited to my diet. I chose to start with bream with cucumber, watermelon, chilli and peanut in the most zingy and wonderful broth ever, this made me giddy with excitement, and then duck leg with mustard cream potatoes and red cabbage with a lovely gravy. That restaurant in Bath please note, not bream without the broth, not duck without the sauce, but everything made freshly without the use of onions or garlic. Just wonderful. Thank you so much. We had a very comfortable night, comfy bed, great linen, dark and quiet room, and a glorious breakfast. If, like me, you are dim enough to leave something very precious behind in the room, never fear, staff will hand it in, reception will send it on securely. Thank you again. This is a lovely place and we look forward to visiting again.

Dear Jude, thank you for visiting us at the Grove and for leaving this wonderful 5* review! We are pleased you enjoyed a warm welcome and found Cresselly to your liking, the bathroom really is a sanctuary! However, we are immensely proud of how the team navigated your dietary requirements. It has been a goal of ours for all of our diners to share in the same quality of experience despite there being allergies or intolerances because we know how frustrating dining can be. Your words clearly demonstrate how much it means to you and regrettably how rare it still is. Douglas and his team are versatile chefs that cater to all allergies and dietary requirements, often at a moment's notice, as they understand this can make or break the quality of your stay. We are so delighted you found everything to your liking and we look forward to welcoming you back, in the not-too-distant future.

I had wanted to come here for some time so we added it on to a short break in Laugharne. Got to be one of the most idyllic looking hotels I've ever stayed in - beautiful old buildings with a really terrific walled garden, ponds and ploy tunnels you are welcome to walk round. I;d have liked to bump inot one of the gardeners for a chat. I'd like to come back when everything is in full bloom, but the blossom in April at the front of the hotel was to die for.
We were kindly upgraded to a signature suite which as well as being a huge 16th century room with a working inglenook fireplace, bread oven and arrow slits, has what I can only describe as a glass box attached. This was the most spectacular inside/outside space I've ever stayed in. It had a sofa, table, chairs, the tea/coffee, etc and was a lovely space even in the rain! A tiny bit overlooked by the restaurant patio and some of the rooms which the outside planting might improve in summer. In truth the room itself would have been a little dark if not for this, but I can't recommend trying to get one of these highly enough.
We had the tasting menu in the Fernery and while I think the actual room wasn't particularly inviting, the decor was fascinating and the food was very very good. Partner had the vegetarian menu which was outstanding. Service was made very enjoyable by bothTilly and the sommelier Katherine. I particularly liked the way the tea was served! My slight gripe would be the wine at £80 a bottle which when I looked to buy some I could get for £20.
Overall it had the feellng of Raymond Blanc's Manoir aux Quatre Saisons in many respects but it's not quite in that league. Mind you it's not that price either! However it is a really lovely hotel and I can't recommend it highly enough. If we didn't live quite so far away I'd be a regular visitor and can't recommend it enough. I'd definitely go back.

We had the most fabulous stay at the Grove to celebrate my parents 65th wedding anniversary. We’d stayed for their 60th 5 years prior but the makeover during the pandemic has elevated this country house hotel to a whole new level of informal luxury . Bramble is a ground floor suite and connected to the main house and has a wonderful private conservatory and courtyard. Perfect for our celebration and we enjoyed a complimentary bottle of fizz. Bramble is probably the best room for disability access with a large walk in shower and seat and a huge bath with a large ledge to sit on. I was a bit alarmed with some of the floor rugs as I’m always on the look out for trip hazards but there were no adverse incidents thank goodness! The room is not so great if you are over 6 foot tall tho. My brother hit us head on the door lintel a few times so maybe a warning sign would be a useful reminder. The 8 course taster menu at the Fernery was amazing. A Michelin star is not far away for this restaurant I feel. Just before we left, my parents did a little tour of the kitchen and flower garden. The gardening team were so kind in helping me park close by as it was up a bit of a hill to allow parents to browse. A fantastic celebration. Just wished we’d booked two nights! Next time!

Thank you for choosing the Grove for such a special occasion and for taking the time to describe your stay. We are filled with you that you like Bramble's renovation and that the room was suitable for your parents. The conservatory is a lovely area for guests to enjoy each other's company. Thank you for the suggestion of a sign, it would probably be a very good idea! We are glad you enjoyed your evening in the Fernery together and that your parents were able to enjoy the gardens. We look forward to welcoming you all back - hopefully before their 70th Wedding Anniversary!

Our previous stay was 14 months ago and we had such lovely visit we didn't want to leave it too long before returning!

The hotel knew of our expected arrival time and we'd be wanting to charge our EV but on arrival all charging spaces were occupied by Polestar promotional cars (not being charged) and we had to ask them to move so we could access one. No big deal but a hotel of this calibre should be giving their paying guests easy access to facilities especially when they've been pre-warned. Note the chargers are no longer free to use for guests as they had been during our last visit.

On arrival no acknowledgement was made of being a returning guest but were greeted warmly and shown to our lovely room, different one this time but smelling absolutely gorgeous, just as I remembered! The bed was comfy and room spotlessly clean but the 2 frayed towels looked out of place in the immaculate bathroom.

We had the seven course tasting menu at dinner which was very good indeed and complemented perfectly with the suggested wine pairing and excellent service from waiting staff and sommelier.

Unfortunately the service the following morning didn't continue over into breakfast which was a bit of a let down. Tables remained uncleared all around us, the croissants though delicious were served cold (no buffet) and we saw many orders (including ours) going to wrong tables. We had to catch a waitress to ask for additional drinks and then follow up requests when they failed to arrive over 10 minutes later.

In summary, although we had a lovely stay the service was a little lacking this time, hopefully just a blip as overall it is a wonderful place to stay

Thank you for returning to the Grove and for your invaluable feedback. We are pleased you had a lovely stay but we are sorry it was not as 'excellent' as before. We strive for consistency of the highest standards and were disappointed to have missed the mark on this occasion. You are correct we should have acknowledged you as return guests and made a charger available for you. As feedback is an opportunity to refocus and retrain we have discussed this with the front-of-house team. We have also updated our laundry supplies and re-examined our breakfast procedure, since your stay, to ensure that service remains at the high standard you expect. This has resulted in us requesting time slots from guests for breakfast, as you would for a dinner service. This has been a resounding success and certainly will allow for guests' change of plans or impromptu leisurely lie-ins also! We look forward to welcoming you back, we hope in the not-too-distant future, where we would like to offer you both a glass of bubbles for taking the time to leave this review.

This was our 4th stay at The Grove and we had the loveliest relaxed time there. We were personally greeted at the door and offered complimentary mulled cider in one of the lounge areas. There was a roaring fire and it was very welcoming.

We stayed in a deluxe loft room which is in a separate building adjacent to the main hotel. The building was obviously originally very old but they've done a great job of modernising it whilst keeping some interesting original features. We loved the window shutters and the complimentary mini bar with local beers and spirits.

There's everything you need in the room, toiletries, flannels, water, robes and slippers, and even a pair of tweezers.

The grounds are picturesque and we enjoyed walking round them, speaking to the gardeners about what's being grown and seeing all of the wildlife which include ducks, dragonflies and so many happy birds (I even didn't mind the early wake up call from the dawn chorus as it was so pretty).

We ate in the brasserie style restaurant that evening. The food was delicious and the service was very good. Afterwards we had hot drinks next to the open fire in one of the lounges.

The breakfast choice is very good and was included in our rate. You can have both continental and hot food and none of it is buffet style. The service from Tilly was excellent, nothing was too much trouble and she's a real asset to the hotel.

On checking out we were offered a little travel bag containing cans of water and some mini homemade welsh cakes which were very welcome on the drive home.

We made the most of the good weather and visited Barafundle Bay before we went home which isn't far from the hotel. We were able to charge our car overnight which was is very useful.

Narbeth itself is also lovely with some great independent shops and cafes, the spanish deli is particularly good.

We've previously stayed with our dog in one of the dog friendly rooms which are lovely. They are a little bit further away from the hotel and have access to outside space. Dogs are welcome in one part of the more relaxed restaurant for breakfast and dinner and there's a dedicated field for them to run around in. They get a bed, bowl, and toy to take home with them.

It would be useful if there was some bath oil either in the room or to purchase. The large roll top bath is lovely to relax in but needed something indulgent to add to the experience.

Thanks for a lovely stay, The Clarks

Dear Mr and Mrs Clark, Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely 5* review describing your latest visit! Meadow Loft is an often overlooked pretty room with its own charm. We are pleased you like the decor and all of the additional amenities in the room. Spring was in the air whilst you were here and the gardens and wildlife, that we work hard to attract, were reemerging from their Winter sleep. This really is the best time to visit the Pembrokeshire beaches, such as Barafundle as you can oftentimes have it all to yourself! Narberth also is a real treasure and we love to visit Ultra-Comida ourselves! Tilly will be delighted that you enjoyed your breakfast - she is an absolute star and we are very lucky to have her. We look forward to your return - when you can rest assured there will be a warm welcome and bath treats waiting for you!

This was our first time visiting Wales, and our experience at this hotel has made us add Pembrokeshire to our must-return locations!

We originally were planning on staying for only a couple of nights and decided to extend our stay because of how absolutely wonderful this hotel and all of its staff are. The room was lovely with a gorgeous view. At one point, I needed to make a late-night conference call and the staff kindly set me up in a separate room so that my travel companion’s sleep was not disturbed.

We have dietary restrictions (gluten and corn) for which they not only accommodated but went above and beyond to make exceptionally delicious food for breakfast and dinner, as well as snacks for our outings. Also, since the start of the pandemic, this was the first big trip for one of my travel companions who is immunocompromised. The staff was especially sensitive and accommodating in helping us stay safe and comfortable.

The gorgeous location, beautiful hotel, and incredibly warm and helpful staff all made for one of the best experiences of my extensive travels, and we definitely plan to visit again!

Thank you for visiting us here in Pembrokeshire and leaving this heartfelt review. We are glad that our guests discover Pembrokeshire, sometimes, as a result of staying with us. We were honoured to have you as our guests and we are delighted that you found the staff to be helpful. Whatever the dietary restrictions, Chef works hard to ensure all of our guests enjoy the same level of fine dining we have to offer. We are pleased you enjoyed this part of your stay as we are aware it can be an added worry when travelling. We look forward to welcoming you back very soon.

Just a gorgeous hotel on my own door step. Stunning decor, rooms, staff, location and food. We have stayed in amazing hotels around the world and The Grove is up there with the best. From the minute you drive down the country lane and through the grounds you feel secluded and at home. The grounds with gardens are lovely and as a gardener myself I really appreciated the walled gardens and the effort to grow so much. Cannot wait to come back later in the season to see everything growing.
I love the eco-friendly attitude too, so refilled toiletries, no nasty single use plastic bottles anywhere. A huge effort to use Welsh products in as many places as possible. From the fabrics, paintings, drinks in the mini bar and in the main bars, toiletries, snacks and food.
We did the 8 course tasting menu, which was good, but the staff were even better. Their knowledge about the wine pairing and food was just great. My only very small issue was that a good deal of the courses were a little too salty. Maybe that is just me.
We cannot wait to come back. Cannot recommend this stunning place enough.

Thank you for leaving such a wonderful 5* review! We are very proud of our gardening team and what they have achieved, it gives me great pleasure to read you appreciate their efforts. We are consistently working towards sustainability goals and respecting Grove's sense of place here in west Wales and it's great that you value this also. I am delighted that you have praised the team in the Fernery, on your next visit please mention that you would prefer a low-salt menu and our chefs will happily prepare dishes for you. You will definitely need a car to get around this area unless you plan to do very long walks from beach to beach. The hotel is not near a beach or a town. It is extremely unlikely that there will be anything like Uber but normal taxis can be arranged but will be quite expensive.

Yes, we do have certain rooms that we allow well behaved dogs to stay in. They are also welcome in the grounds and on the terraces but not in the restaurant. If you wish to stay with a dog, please book direct via phone or email so we can ensure we have availability in the dog friendly rooms. We look forward to welcoming you to the Grove.
