Stunning place to stay, with beautiful views. You cannot swim in the sea during wet season due to jellyfish. Gorgeous private bungalows and great menu for supper. You can also order picnic hampers which is fun but too many mosquitos to have it outside. Breakfast could be better as was a quite small buffet.

Booked Thala Beach Reserve for 5 days to celebrate the New Year on our small vacation to Port Douglas this 2017. Read best reviews in TA and luckily got accomodations in all the nights we wanted. Arrived late evening to this place and the moment we arrived, we were awe strucked with the place. Being a wet season this time...

The perfect place to unwind and relax! The views from the bungalow and the main lodge were awesome. The bungalow was clean, modern and spacious and the views down the coast from the deck were spectacular. The landscaped pool was so refreshing!

We have just recently returned from 4 amazing days at the resort. We found the place fantastic and everything that I expected as it was the place that I got down on my knees. My special requests for the proposal were all taken care of with no fuss and the staff there were absolutely fantastic in accommodating both ourselves and...

I went to Thala with my four boys aged 13, 10, 4 and 3 in July 2016. We chose the resort because we wanted access to the beach (it was July so no stingers) and most other resorts in the area don't have direct access. The rainforest was an unexpected delight and we felt that we were out of the...

It's wonderful to hear how you and your boys enjoyed our private access beach, rainforest, swimming pool and took in the lovely setting of Osprey's Restaurant, along with our helpful and patient staff. We do hope to see your family again. Johan Klindt General Manager

The bungalow is spacious and tidy. It had a balcony looking towards the trees that we really enjoyed. It is a big property with quite a few bungalows but it really feels quite private. The breakfast was good, although for the price of the room it should be included in the price. No WiFi in the rooms. The swimming pools...

Great Location. The bungalow we were in was well and nicely furnished. Most Bungalows are within the rain forest - some have distant ocean view. No swimming in the ocean in summer because of stingers.Rooms are serviced only every second day "to keep the guests privacy". Wifi only in reception/Restaurant area. There is a coffee device in the room. The...

Rooms are serviced every second day in an endeavour to minimise our environmental footprint, though we're quite happy to offer daily servicing of rooms at guests requests. The structure is a bit dated, but completely merged with the beautiful surroundings. The main problem is the lack of wifi in the rooms, which is not acceptable given the cost and the level of the hotel. You must have a car to travel around. The restaurant (a la carte) is good for dinner, very good, but breakfasts (included in...

Thank you Alessandro M for choosing Thala for your nature-based getaway. We're delighted that you enjoyed our beautiful surroundings along with dinner at Osprey's Restaurant. We visited Thala in December 2016 with our baby daugther, eight months old at the time, and absolutely loved the experience. It was a perfect baby-friendly luxury honeymoon for us. We still talk about the wonderful staff and miss the ladies in the restaurant who completely charmed our little daugther and gave us a warm welcome each morning. All staff...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Thala Beach Nature Reserve is a family owned 58 hectare nature and wildlife reserve 15 minutes south of Port Douglas. Get there from Cairns via a spectacular 45 minute drive along Captain Cook Highway. Elevated on stilts, 83 eco designed timber bungalows are discretely concealed within the forest canopy, blending in with the natural environment and feature ocean, mountain or forest views. Panoramic views are enjoyed from open-sided Osprey's Restaurant across the forest canopy and beyond to the Coral Sea. Guests and visitors dine amongst birds in the surrounding treetops, whilst enjoying modern Australian cuisine with friendly and attentive service. Granite boulders, waterfalls and overhanging trees create natural swimming pools blending discretely within the environment. Paths wind through rainforests and woodlands, connecting with secluded coves and beaches, passing through habitats for endemic birds, wildlife and flora. Guests enjoy complimentary guided nature tours by onsite rangers including tree planting, stargazing at an outdoor observatory, beach discovery, wildlife walks and bird-watching tours.
