Basic, overpriced jungle camp, needs some improvements. GPS location: 6.061960, 116.702060 but don't try find it by yourself because it is in deep forest. Just for information. Wet and smelly tents and mattresses. Holes in mosquito net, but we had our own one. Except short nightwalk, no guided tours. If raining nothing to do. We had a heartburn after every... More

This is a very basic camp set in the middle of the rainforest outside Poring. It's a great place for people wanting to be immersed in nature. Getting there involves a 45 minute walk through plantations and forest on a trail. It's slightly uphill but not difficult. You can leave excess luggage in Poring. There are four accommodation options (all... More

This place is a bit pricy for Malaysia but worth it, forget about the money and let the experience count. You will be sitting right in the middle of the oldest rainforest in the world, surrounded by beautiful butterflies, birds and other beautiful creatures, with two waterfalls and a river in short walking distance. No sign of other people, no... More

camp is very basic, you have to bring all you need.....if you need something in the forest rather than food! Nice experience need at least 2 nights there to have time to go around and explore. You can swim in the river despite too cold for me and walk around at night with guide.

This place is excellent! We stayed here for three days, two nights in July. The camp is a forty-minute walk into the middle of the rainforest. There are multiple hikes to do from the camp, a river with waterfalls and swimming spots, and the guys running it can take you on a night walk to try and spot some wildlife.... More

Lupa Masa was the highlight of our time in Malaysia. We stayed at the camp as volunteers for 3 weeks and really felt like we would never want to leave. I was never once bored, with many treks around the camp and further afield into the national park and around Poring. The lack of electricity was never an issue and... More

I went it last year, that was a very amazing experience. It's a camp located at 45mns by walk (and only by walk) so you are in the middle of the nature, far from the noise of the city. They propose a night trek, no lights, the complete dark which is very impressive when you switch off your light. They... More

We stayed here for two nights. The stay was pleasant, we even managed to see how a snake caught a bat and the whole process of eating. The food is or was vegetarian, they didn't have any meat, but I think as long as it is tasty it doesn't matter. I stayed in a challet, it was very good built... More

Aidan (camp boss when we were there, june 2016) is an amazing guide. We really enjoyed our stay, magical experience, even the leeches were not that bad after all. Tip: go bouldering, it is amazing, you won't be disappointed. If you are staying multpiple days, bring a powerbank for your mobile devices. Or even better, don't, and let the batteries... More

We ended up staying at Lupa masa for 7 nights as my partner and I enjoyed it so much! The location is absolutely perfect, in the jungle right next to a beautiful river and waterfall. So wonderfully peaceful and refreshing. The food was so delicious (and plenty of it!) Sonny and Nick were very knowledgable and their passion for nature... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Lupa Masa rainforest camp is a natural hideaway set amongst some of the oldest rainforest on Earth. 3 hours from Sabah state capital Kota Kinabalu it is a short walk from the Poring Hot Springs which is 30 mins off the main Kota Kinabalu - Sandakan highway.Made from local bamboo with power supplied by its own on site hydro-electric generator Lupa Masa is one of the greenest, in all senses, places to visit and stay in Borneo. It is surrounded on two sides by the national park and the third boundary is a crystal clear river and waterfall. Accomodation is in traditional style 'sulaps' in tents on foam mattress. Lupa Masa is a haven for birds, mammals and thousands of weird and wonderful insects including stunning butterflies and fire flies. Seasonally on-site there are blooms of the largest flower in the world - the Rafflesia. The camp offers rainforest trekking, bird watching, village visits or simply the opportunity to relax surrounded by nature. ... more   less
