Atlantic Bay Resort is nestled in Tavernier, the loveliest part of Key Largo and the diving capital of the world. We are conveniently located 1-1/2 hours south of Miami, and 2 hours north of Key West, the southernmost tip of the continental USA. The little jewel we call Atlantic Bay is a small resort that faces the Gulf of Mexico's Florida Bay. It is located on three tropical landscaped acres with 500 feet of waterfront.

We enjoyed our three night stay at this resort very much. It was very quiet and we enjoyed sitting out at the waterfront watching the sunset every night. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. We had a room with a kitchen area with a refrigerator, microwave and a hot plate and coffee maker.
There are lots of good restaurants close buy for breakfast lunch and dinner. There was a nice heated pool as well as kayaks and paddle boats that were free to use. Although this resort is on the water it isn’t an area that you would be able to swim at.
The only thing that we would have liked were curtains in the rooms. There were shades in all of the windows but shortly after 7 am the rooms were so bright inside that it was hard to sleep past 7:30 am.

This was our 4th stay at Atlantic Bay and we like it better each time. Given the ongoing situation with COVID we selected Atlantic Bay as we knew it would be exceptionally clean and the availability of the kitchen would allow us to eat all of our meals in our cottage. We were able to enjoy the kayaks and paddleboards on property as well as to relax in the beach area. There is plenty of space for all guests so you're able to feel comfortable moving around the property without being too close to anyone else. I highly recommend Atlantic Bay!

For reference, I consider a 1 star hotel is a dump, a 2 star hotel just a room, a 3 star hotel has a pool or restaurant, 4 star pool and restaurant, and 5 star is a high end w/ all of the amenities. The Atlantic Bay Resort is a 3 star hotel by that criteria. Typically, the best I would rate a 3 star hotel is 4 stars. But this place was SO nice that I had to go beyond that.
To start off with, this place has only 20 rooms. And ONLY 2 of those 20 are what I would consider a room. They are more like studio apartments, with a living room, kitchen, and bedroom. We stayed in room 9 (King efficiency) which is in the 2 story building that holds half of their rooms. The others are small cabins. Most have been recently updated, ours had probably been a while, but was still well maintained.
A lot of the guests we met were heading to/from Key West and were only staying 1 night, which its location in Tavernier makes it perfect for. Fortunately, we stayed 5 nights and had the opportunity to really appreciate all this place has to offer. We've been to Key West and wanted a more low-key experience this time. We were able to enjoy activities from Key Largo to Big Pine Key and never had to drive more than 90 minutes to get to any.
The last day there, we decided to skip Pennekamp State Park (we had been before) and just hang out at and around ABR. We checked out a couple of the bicycles they have (not the greatest bikes, but they’re free) and biked around in the surrounding neighborhoods and dreamt of living in the $1M+ homes along the channels. We made a stop at the local CVS and picked up some more sunscreen. Then cooled off in the pool. Next was checking out one of the kayaks (again, for free) paddling all over the cove. And to top it off, we re-heated all of our left overs from the previous 4 nights and dined under a palapa as the sunset over the bay (see pic).
There may be fancier options in the keys, but this place is perfect if you’re looking for a relaxing vacation.

My husband and I just stayed for five days. Atlantic Bay Resort is IMMACULATE! The grounds are simply spectacular. Small private area with many flowering shrubs and flowers. A hand raked beach to die for. Your stay here starts by the incredible hospitality staff. We wanted to extend our stay by three extra days and staff bent over backwards to arrange the room changes in order to extend it. And we are glad they did. This place is so clean, friendly, accommodating and in a perfect spot. The small, but perfectly planned out beach has beach chairs strategically placed throughout the property, an immaculate outdoor heated pool, kayaks, bikes, outdoor family games, grills and outdoor picnic areas. Did I mention sever docks with crystal clear water. Perfect spot to watch sunsets. There are also several resident iguanas. The rooms are super clean. Immaculate white bedding and bath towels. You will want to return year after year at this well kept property. Our favorite room was the tiki hut #3.

Their website represents the beauty and amenities of this property. The cost is also appropriate for the quality of a Florida Keys beach front location. Plenty of beach seating, a boat ramp & pier for fishing or tying up your boat, kayaks/bikes/paddle boards, and your first bag of ice is complimentary. And the shower is amazing!

We stayed four nights in the Tropical Suite and really enjoyed this place. Our room was just the right size for the two of us and even had ample counter space in the "kitchenette". Our suite had its own little deck that we made use of every day. We loved waking up and having tea on the deck (or after dinner drinks) while looking out over the water. I will say that our room had a very firm mattress, which was fine for me but my husband was slightly uncomfortable for the first night or two and the pillows on the bed were uncomfortable as well. The resort is located right between Key Largo and Islamorda so it was never more than 10-20 minutes to get to wherever we wanted to go (e.g. dive center in Key Largo or a brewery in Islamorda). The grounds are pretty and the view of the bay is wonderful. The pool has a "chiller" I think it is called so it is actually refreshing if you decide to take a dip. There are kayaks and paddleboards to use as well. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. All in all, we would definitely stay at this resort again!

Really enjoyed the stay at ABR. The site was very clean and kept up nicely. Staff was professional and polite. The rooms were nice and clean and fit a family of 4 very comfortably. The beach front area is very nice and full of marine life. We saw alot of small fish and crabs. A manatee and her baby came to visit and a dolphin put on a show in the bay. Another guest was able to catch a large grouper along the rocks. We brought our boat and it was great that the hotel doesnt charge a separate fee to use the dock while staying at the hotel. Only advice for anyone bringing a boat is watch the tide when launching boat. Very shallow ramp at low tide. I have a 22 foot center console and had a hard time launching at low tide. No issue at all during high tide. Tavernier creek is extremely close.Overall we loves the stay and look forward to staying again in the future. My only minor issue was the water pressure in the shower. Not a bid deal and definitely not a a deal breaker

This is a small resort and has a private beach which was really nice. Be aware that the kitchen facilities are very basic and nothing is provided to cook with such as oil salt pepper. So we had ti buy everything to make one meal. The hob takes 30 minutes to heat a pan of water up. Mist of the cottages have no view and you are just looking at your car which is parked in front of the cottage. Over 3 days are cottage was not cleaned until I asked for it to be done and then was done to a basic standard

This was our 4th stay here and probably our last. We have always enjoyed the beautiful views and kayaking from the beach. We love the bbq facilities and the pool is nice. Beds good size too.
What we didn’t like this time was being in a ‘deluxe king room’ which wasn’t deluxe at all, (our room rate was $300 per night) had inadequate kitchen facilities, no maid service during our 3 nights (are they a resort/hotel/motel? prices are hotel..) and being kept awake all night by THE LOUDEST air con unit on the planet. It felt like sleeping on an airport runway and interrupted our sleep massively!

We love to use the bbq but our kitchen area (we were sadly placed in an older room) was tiny so impossible to prepare any food. Not enough utensils and cutlery, no plastic plates or trays to take things to the beach. When I asked if we could borrow a tray, the lady on reception said I could go to the local Win Dixie and buy one, really for over $300 a night you can’t provide a tray for guests to use?
Our room had a microwave and sink, under the sink was a portable stove, but there was no place to put the stove if you wanted to be able to use the microwave, coffee machine and drying rack, so we had to unplug the microwave and place this away during our stay so we could use the stove. After first night we decided to cook next door in my brothers updated ‘efficiency’ which had a lovely cooking space. He doesn’t cook but had soo much space, wasn’t ideal for us though.
It was our most expensive stay during a 6 week holiday and not worth the money. The hotel will say that we got a good rate. Well maybe if everything matches that rate fine, the resort is lovely but what you want for a relaxing holiday is the full package plus a good nights sleep and we didn’t get that here.

We stayed at Atlantic Bay Resort for my brother-in-law’s wedding. The landscaping was beautifully manicured and the trees/shrubbery along the property border made it feel very private & secluded. Everything was very clean and the cabin we stayed in was the perfect balance of comfortable and functional. I would definitely recommend to family and friends, and look forward to booking another stay in the future!
