The facility is a little worn and definitely showing its age with little reminders that they're not too worried about keeping up appearances - cigarette burn mark on the bathroom sink, less than spotless tub, tired out chairs on shared balconies, early shut-down hours at the pool bar, not-so-timeless decor in the hotel bar - but, overall, a decent stay...

We have been staying on Lido Beach for the past 5 years; however, this is the first time we stayed at the Helmsley Sandcastle Hotel. After reading many of the reviews, CLEAN rooms right on the gorgeous beach and less expensive than other places on Lido, was the deciding factor this year. It actually was better than I had originally...

We would have loved to stay more than 2 nights in this hotel. It is located just in front of the beach (no road to cross). Staff is friendly. The beach is fantastic, the sand is white and you can have complimentary lounge chairs. Our room was quite big and comfortable. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Rooms are old school and bit drab but the property has big character-most rooms are a few yards from the great Lido Key beach, one mile from incredible European charm of St.Armands Circle (dining and shopping) and lots of outside activites. Price for July approx. 150.00 per night per room for 4. Budget accomodations in an incredible beach area.

We arrived on a very rainy day and the first impression you get when you see this hotel on a rainy day is not all that good. Everything looks dark and the pool looks green and in definate need of some paint. We were early and had to wait for our rooms, which was fine, so we went to the...

We rented the handicap room for our parents and one adjacent for ourselves. We loved sitting out on the patio beachside each morning to enjoy our breakfast, and again at sun set. The gulf water was wonderful and the beach in this area is terrific. We did not eat most meals on property, but did have a very nice lunch...

My husband and I just visited Lido Key beach for our anniversary and we both personally loved the hotel. The rooms and hotel are basic but if you're looking for something more fancy pay triple and stay at the Ritz-Carlton a couple hotels down. The room was very very clean, new carpet and had a beautiful view of the gulf....

I want to start this review by saying the beach is beautiful. I stayed here because of pictures and reviews of the beach. With that said, the beach is beautiful everywhere in Sarasota. You don't need to waste your money staying here because the beach is nice. Stay a little further down at a different hotel and have the same...

Booked this resort as a last minute plan when we saw the big discount offered on a major travel site, thought it was a bargain. Then we regretted not taking enough time to look through what it has to offer. The resort is located on the southern end of the Lido key, has a private beach (not as good as...

Helmsely has really neglected this property. I have to admit that the sugar sand beach is really beautiful, and being that the hotel is old and small there's no over-crowding. I splurged for the Gulf View room and the view was amazing. But beware: The rooms are dirty and poorly maintained, and you'll get hit with a mandatory 16% 'tip'...
