Decided on an impromptu getaway on the gulf coast since I live on the east coast of FL. Westin never lets me down. We had stayed elsewhere the night before to be closer to a wedding we went to and it was so disappointing so we just looked up the closest Westin and it was EVERYTHING we needed. I was so desperate for the R&R that comes with getting out of town and we enjoyed the full higher end resort level experience in 24 hrs. that left us feeling like we had a full vacation!

Chris C. greeted me upon my arrival without me having a previous reservation and on a holiday weekend (which I didn’t even realize) in the most helpful and welcoming way possible. I shared my awful experience from the other place the previous night and she went above and beyond to help us salvage the weekend. She got us in the system, helped us decide on the perfect room and checked our bags that were later delivered to our room when it was ready as we made our way to the rooftop pool and bar.

The customer service throughout the entire property is phenomenal! We enjoyed several appetizers and cocktails (careful - those fruity drinks can be as much as $18! prob my only disappointment but I also didn’t care enough to ask at that point either). The sunset from the roof is breathtaking. There is plenty of open air seating with umbrellas for my fair skin where you can stare off into the bay and get lost.

There was hand sanitizer everywhere I turned and both guests and staff were all very thoughtful with masks and distancing.

The rooms at Westin are always spectacular. Super clean and the most comfortable beds always. If the loud AC in most hotel rooms lulls you to sleep, you’ll need a white noise app b/c even the AC was so quiet I couldn’t hear it.

There were plenty of excellent dining options in walking distance, in addition to what they offer at the property. We had the free shuttle drop us off and walked back after dinner when we realized how close it was. We had aspired to use the loaner bicycles but enjoyed lounging on the roof so long we ran out of time.

In the morning Maria at the front desk helped me take the most efficient route to walk to the local grocery store since that‘a my little tradition when I’m somewhere new. She was also very quick, efficient and helpful when I checked out later that day.

You can’t go wrong here. While you might spend a few dollars less elsewhere it’s so not worth it. You get so much value and excellent EVERYTHING at the Westin. This particular property was very busy during our stay but at no point did they allow it to cause an inconvenience. You can tell the place is very well run.

If you are iffy about where to stay in Sarasota, go with the Westin, they will not disappoint!

We wanted to take a quick trip for the weekend to get a change of scenery, and since I grew up in beautiful Sarasota I wanted to show it off to my friends. We got a great deal on this hotel, and it was exactly what we needed! The room was spotless and big, and we had a floor-to-ceiling window that gave us an incredible view of downtown Sarasota. The rooftop pool was so swanky and had waiters walking around offering service. The location is within walking distance to the bayfront, and it's a short drive to St. Armands Circle and Lido Beach.

We also got great service from the staff, and they are doing a great job of following social distancing rules while still being friendly! When we checked in, Michelle (I think, not 100%) was so sweet and upgraded our room to give us that amazing view, and when we asked about late check-out, Marcia (again, not 100% but that sounds right) extended our checkout time to 1:30pm so we could enjoy the beach on our last day but still have time to return and shower off.

My husband and I decided to try the Westin for the first time for our anniversary weekend getaway. I was a little weary going due to covid but I must say, they did a great job providing hand sanitizer stations throughout the hotel, all employees wore masks, and they marked parts of the lobby floor with social distancing signs. They also said housekeeping would only take
of of the trash and replenish the towels for health safety. However, nobody came to do that and we had to call down for our towels. Marcia checked us in and sent up a bottle of champagne and a hand written note congratulating us on our anniversary which was very nice. We also enjoyed breakfast each morning at their restaurant and were extremely impressed with our waitress, Rose, each day. Her personality and professionalism was exceptional!
Overall, it was a very modern, clean hotel in great location. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is the $30 a day parking fee and other resort, destination fees but unfortunately, most of the hotels in that immediate area charge these. Here’s a photo of our bay view balcony room....

This is my second stay at the Sarasota Westin. I stayed for 9 days in the month of January 2020 and am presently halfway through my second stay of 7 nights in March 2020.
What I appreciate the most about the Westin Hotel is the beautiful scent as one walks through the doors and the atmosphere of calmness and tranquility. The front door opens and as one enters one immediately senses that vacation has begun.
Front desk personnel are happy, smiling and very attentive to each guest treating you as a special individual and addressing all your needs and questions.
I particularly mention Maria Andersen at the front desk who has especially gone out of her way to make my stay memorable and incredible. My requests for additional hangers in my closet and the need for more towels were addressed promptly and with the same care as if I was a member of her family. Questions about airport transportation were answered with accuracy and specificity. She is a rare find and her pleasant personality makes staying at the Westin a true pleasure.
My reservations on both occasions were handled with excellence by front desk manager Kendall Stone and she took time to place me in a beautiful room on both occasions.
Meals at the hotel restaraunt Epoq were excellent with the onion soup, avocado salad, the impossible burger, and the beef tenderloin just to mention a few items.
Breakfast is excellent at the Westin with an excellent buffet or individual selections. I particularly loved the eggs Benedict with a side of fresh fruit. If you are fortunate enough to have your server be Gina, Rose, or Mary then your breakfast experience will be even more pleasant due to their excellent attentiveness and service and their pleasant personalities.
The Westin shuttle driven by very kind individuals especially Elder and Glenn is an added bonus to ones stay providing trips to the beach, St. Armand's circle, Main Street Sarasota and various places within a 3 mile radius.
My review would not be complete without mention of the 19th floor pool and poolside bar with amazing views of Sarasota, incredible sunset views and excellent drinks.
Staying at Westin Sarasota will truly be an incredible experience.

Let me say right away that the Westin in Sarasota is a wonderful place to stay. Here’s a list of the pro’s:
1. It’s a new hotel
2. The room we had was furnished nicely with a balcony overlooking OldTown Sarasota.
3. The service was excellent from valet team to reception check in area to housekeeping to basically everyone including the rooftop pool folks! Don’t have anything negative to say about the service team. Beyond excellent!
4. Location is a plus if you’re looking to get out to Siesta key, St.Armand circle Lido key etc. or into Old Sarasota very easy.
5. Speaking of rooftop, the pool is lovely but the views are better!
6. Fire pit areas on roof nice touch when it was chilly.

The Cons: (these might be a bit picky because I don’t stay often in the Westin chain)
1. Entrance into hotel is tricky not a big deal but after a long day of travel and late in the evening you kind of are looking for an easy way in!
2. Parking non existent except for valet service which these young folks hustle all day and night. This team always had our car ready it’s a shame the hotel charges about 30$ a night to park. You probably could find a way to park off hotel grounds however the hotel is situated on a corner surrounded by condos and other hotels so you’re kind of a prisoner to the charge.
3. This may sound trivial but there was always some kind of background music playing no matter where you were in the hotel. Could be a little annoying.
4. Lastly and I’m assuming the Westin is marketing this brand of hotel to a certain client but for the price of the room in January I would suggest having some coffee, tea or something available for the early risers other then the shop although very nice it was exceptionally expensive.

Having said all this I would probably stay here again because of the outstanding service by all!

The hotel was very clean which is important in these times. Overall I had a good experience at this hotel. The staff was nice and helpful. Including those answering the phone at the front desk, maid service, valet attendants and those at check-in. The room was also very nice and clean. I had a double with a city view and still had a partial view of the Marina which was great. The room itself had plenty of space and bathroom was very clean. Even though, as expected, there was no regular maid service they still emptied garbage in the room and replaced towels daily which was nice. Water pressure in the bathroom was good although the sink drained very slowly. Lobby and rooftop areas were also very nice.

Unfortunately I couldn't give this hotel 5 stars because of the unexpected extra charges and the terrible valet experience. At the check-in process I was told it would be an extra $45 charge per day. $30 to valet park my car with NO option to park the car myself and $15 for amenity charge for what I was told was for free bike rentals and shuttle service even though I had my own car! The Valet attendants were very nice and helpful although on multiple occasions I would pull my car up and there would be a traffic jam in the valet area of the hotel just because there were too many cars using valet parking. This hotel really needs to fixed their parking issues.

Overall this hotel was great but because of the unexpected extra fees and the terrible parking situation I will probably stay elsewhere the next time I visit the Sarasota area. If you don't mind valet parking your car for an additional fee than I would recommend staying at this hotel.

Hello GrummGuy, Thank you for your contribution on your most recent stay with us. While overall, I'm pleased that our staff, amenities, and room exceeded your expectations, I am sorry to hear about your comments on the extra fees that you mentioned in your post. Your comments are certainly understandable and my apologies for the issues you encountered. I will say that all 3 to 4 star hotels in the downtown Sarasota market do charge for parking or have a destination fee. Regardless, we do appreciate both your positive & constructive feedback as this will assist us on improving our overall services. Warmest Regards, Gil Reyes General Manager

We have been to Sarasota several times and usually stay at another Marriott property just up the street. We decided to stay at the Westin given its number 4 rating. Unfortunately our experience didn’t really live up to the rating and we won’t likely be back to the Westin. Don’t get me wrong it’s not a terrible property but there are much better Marriott hotels nearby with better amenities and location for similar rates.

Location: right now there’s construction of a massive traffic circle going on and the area is very poor for walkability. It might be better once it’s done but ultimately it’s abutting a VERY busy road and the property feels like you are constantly hearing traffic. We could hear tires screeching and horns honking all night.

View: we were supposed to have a marina view from our upgraded suite but it was really only a view if you were out on the balcony and then all you hear is traffic noise from below. The views are obstructed from the building next door (Vue) so the Westin doesn’t have any really great views. Also the views include massive traffic jams below.

Cleanliness: our room was not super clean, I had to buy antibacterial wipes to wipe many surfaces including the toilet which was really disappointing. Overall the hotel, although newly constructed within the last few years, feels worn and not very well cared for. The staff came daily to replenish towels and make the bed but never really cleaned (ie vacuuming or wiping surfaces).

Pool/rooftop: the pool was fine but nothing spectacular and there’s no hot tub which is very disappointing for a property of this level. We weren’t the only guests annoyed by the lack of hot tub. The rooftop bar was so so but nothing to write home about.

Valet/shuttle: valet was amazing and very fast/reliable. There’s also a shuttle that will take you downtown, to st. Armand’s or to the beach. Nice amenity if you don’t have a car. Most Marriott hotels in the area offer this service we noticed.

Restaurant: servers were nice and service was decent albeit a little slow for the most part. If you are Marriott you get free breakfast each day at Evoq on the first floor. Food was excellent, service was pretty good. On our last day we almost had to leave without getting food after waiting over 40 minutes for 2 breakfast meals. They ended up giving it to us to go which was a little inconvenient since eating in a car on the way to the airport isn’t very easy.

Overall: there are a few much nicer Marriott properties to stay at in the area that have a much nicer, calmer and more comfortable vibe. I’d look elsewhere if you’re a Marriott bonvoy member with status/using points.

From the moment I walked into the Westin Sarasota, Juliana made me feel welcome. I could not remember all the names of her fellow front desk staff, parking valets, and the amazing waiter at Evoq restaurant. But they remembered me and greeted me with a smile and friendly hello upon every return.

Cinthia and Ryan at the lobby bar were amazing. And while the food downstairs is superior (I recommend the blackened grouper or the sticky salmon), the views from the rooftop bar are breathtaking (order the grouper bites). Depending on the location of your room, this high-rise hotel offers spectacular views of downtown Sarasota or Sarasota Bay and its barrier islands.

Isabella the maid kept my room spotless throughout my stay and left sweet notes in my room that made me feel appreciated and cared for.

Bottom line, this is an amazing hotel -- a stylish building staffed with quality employees who care.

My wife and I stay at the Westin Sarasota Feb1-8, 2020. There were many issues: One of 3 elevators going to the higher floors was out of service for more than 3 days. Those elevators that did work had issues, very hard stops with an air pocket sensation. The parking lot had no signage. Sarasota is under construction and roads are pack, not seeing a sign when I approached the Westin made things worse. We had to pass the building turn off and come back to the same area. We turned on a side street and happened upon the Westin which had NO CLEAR signage. Now for the hotel. No concierge floor for Marriott members is a big negative. They offered us free breakfast vochers and the breakfast buffet was excellent, only issue was when we checked out we were told it only included a continental breakfast and not the buffet? Really? We had to pay the difference. The room was a good size but the couch was incredibly uncomfortable and I couldn't do work from the area. Internet was very good. The biggest issue was hot water. We wanted to shower and no hot water. I called the front desk, they sent up service, he couldn't get hot water and called his service team. they told him there was some issue relaying water from another area. We were told to turn on all faucets and we would get hot water. We did after 10-15 minutes and this was for the entire stay. Once we did get hot water it was hot and we couldn't moderate the temp so it was either burn or freeze, if this wasn't bad enough, the water came with a very pungent odor of sulphur. I sure wouldn't drink it. Otherwise the hotel was good, its location is a crowded intesection, the gym was good and had 2 Peleton bikes to try. The help was good but offered no discount or sympathy with our issues. Net/net I would skip this hotel and stay elsewhere, it didn't cut it and Marriott needs to review the property which has only open about 1 year.

Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel.

Staff is mostly pleasant, save one waiter for breakfast. It was not advertised parking was $30 a night and tax. Luckily we only stayed one night.

Check in was easy and we received key cards to tap for entry.

The room was very musty when we entered and it continued to persist the entire stay. It agitated my allergies so bad I had difficulty breathing without medication.

Our room was a bay view king, which its view was obstructed by Ritz Carlton. Take that into consideration when you pay for a view.

We utilized the courtesy shuttle to St Armands Circle for free. They picked us up from our drop off promptly after we called.

At night, the walls and door did not muffle much sound at all and I was woken up multiple times until about midnight with people moving above us and outside our door.

Furniture was very uncomfortable to lay in, both bed and couch. The bed was as hard as a rock and the pillows deflated once touched.

My wife used the shower in the morning and it was roomy and had excellent pressure. The towels were quite tattered.

The breakfast was overpriced and room temperature after coming straight from the kitchen. The hash browns were greasy and bland. The bacon was cooked well. My wife’s sandwich was cold when delivered.

The coffee cup I almost used had lipstick still on it.

A woman who was sat before us received her food long after we retrieved ours. And the service members only visited to take our order, drop it off, and deliver the check. The waitress brought our check with a pot of coffee, filled my cup halfway, and never returned to bring me more coffee.

Valet was prompt in bringing our car to the front, in less than 5 minutes.

The valet and the shuttle driver are the only positives about this hotel.

I am sorry to tell you parking is not free there even for embassador. I personally don't like driving so I just uber around town. I found it cheaper and more convenient and save time to find parking to different beaches. In fact, I do see the valet people handled guests well. No worry about it. I feel like we should worry about guests not wearing masks inside the property more. Just my thing. Not feeling comfortable about it and we wear masks indoor for sure even most people don't.

We were there during the week. Yes there is huge road improvement project underway and it has impact on traffic and driving time. But we did not find it too traumatic or any worse than driving from Sarasota to Gainsville. Hotel itself is not affected - neither the views or the noise. The situation was bad at Ritz, window view was construction machinery and parking lot. We paid for room with balcony but you could not open it because the noise was deafening. We moved after one night stay.
